¹My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor Greek Parakleton: Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, and Comforter. with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous.

¹ ای فرزندان من، این را به شما می‌نویسم تا گناه نكنید. امّا اگر كسی مرتكب گناهی شود، در پیشگاه خدای پدر كسی را داریم كه برای ما شفاعت می‌کند -‌همان عیسی مسیح كه کاملاً نیكوست-

²And he is the atoning sacrifice “atoning sacrifice” is from the Greek “hilasmos,” an appeasing, propitiating, or the means of appeasement or propitiation—the sacrifice that turns away God’s wrath because of our sin. for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world.

² زیرا خود مسیح كفّارهٔ گناهان ماست، نه تنها گناهان ما، بلكه گناهان همهٔ مردم دنیا.

³This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments.

³ فقط وقتی ما از احكام خدا اطاعت می‌کنیم، می‌توانیم مطمئن باشیم كه او را می‌شناسیم

⁴One who says, “I know him,” and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him.

⁴ و اگر كسی بگوید كه او را می‌شناسد ولی طبق دستورات او عمل نمی‌کند، دروغگو و از حقیقت دور است.

⁵But whoever keeps his word, God’s love has most certainly been perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in him:

⁵ امّا وقتی كسی مطابق كلام خدا زندگی می‌کند، محبّت خدا در او به طور واقعی به كمال رسیده است. از این راه می‌توانیم مطمئن باشیم كه در خدا زندگی می‌کنیم:

⁶he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.

⁶ هرکه بگوید كه در خدا زندگی می‌کند، زندگی او باید درست مانند زندگی عیسی مسیح باشد.

⁷Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

⁷ ای عزیزان، دستوری كه به شما می‌نویسم فرمان تازه‌ای نیست، بلكه دستوری است قدیمی؛ یعنی همان است كه شما از ابتدا داشته‌اید. این همان پیامی است که از اول شنیده‌اید.

⁸Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you; because the darkness is passing away, and the true light already shines.

⁸ در هر حال دستور تازه‌ای به شما می‌نویسم و حقیقت آن، هم در مسیح و هم در شما دیده می‌شود، زیرا پایان ظلمت نزدیک و نور حقیقی در حال درخشیدن است.

⁹He who says he is in the light and hates his brother, is in the darkness even until now.

⁹ اگر كسی ادّعا كند كه در نور است و در‌عین‌حال از برادر یا خواهر خود نفرت دارد، او هنوز در ظلمت است.

¹⁰He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him.

¹⁰ هرکه برادر یا خواهر خود را دوست بدارد، در نور زندگی می‌کند و باعث لغزش خود و یا دیگران نخواهد شد.

¹¹But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

¹¹ امّا هرکه از برادر یا خواهر خود متنفّر باشد، در ظلمت است، در ظلمت راه می‌رود و نمی‌داند به كجا می‌رود، زیرا تاریكی چشمانش را كور كرده است.

¹²I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

¹² ای فرزندان كوچک، به شما می‌نویسم زیرا گناهانتان به‌خاطر نام مسیح آمرزیده شده‌اند.

¹³I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.

¹³ ای پدران، به شما می‌نویسم، زیرا او را كه از ازل بوده است، می‌شناسید. ای جوانان، به شما می‌نویسم، زیرا كه بر شیطان پیروز شده‌اید.

¹⁴I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

¹⁴ ای كودكان، به شما نوشته‌ام، زیرا شما پدر را می‌شناسید. ای پدران، به شما نوشته‌ام، زیرا او را كه از ازل بوده است، می‌شناسید. ای جوانان، به شما نوشته‌ام، زیرا نیرومند هستید و كلام خدا در شماست و شما بر شیطان پیروز شده‌اید.

¹⁵Don’t love the world, neither the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him.

¹⁵ به دنیا و آنچه به آن تعلّق دارد دل نبندید، کسی‌که دنیا را دوست دارد محبّت خدای پدر او در او نیست.

¹⁶For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s.

¹⁶ هر آنچه به جهان تعلّق دارد -یعنی آنچه نفس اَمّاره آرزو می‌کند و آنچه چشم می‌بیند و طلب می‌کند و آنچه مایهٔ فخر و غرور است- از پدر نیست. اینها همه به دنیا تعلّق دارند.

¹⁷The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.

¹⁷ جهان و تمایلات دنیوی از بین خواهند رفت؛ امّا هرکه ارادهٔ خدا را بجا آورد، تا به ابد خواهد زیست.

¹⁸Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour.

¹⁸ ای فرزندان من، ساعت آخر فرا رسیده است و چنانکه شما شنیدید «دشمن مسیح» در زمان آخر ظاهر خواهد شد؛ و حالا می‌بینیم كه دشمنان مسیح كه ظاهر شده‌اند زیادند و از این رو می‌فهمیم كه ساعت آخر نزدیک است.

¹⁹They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us.

¹⁹ این دشمنان مسیح از میان ما بیرون رفتند. آنها در واقع هیچ‌وقت به ما تعلّق نداشتند. اگر متعلّق به ما می‌بودند، می‌ماندند. امّا رفتند تا معلوم گردد كه هیچ‌یک از آنها در حقیقت از ما نبودند.

²⁰You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. Or, “know what is true.” Or, “know all things.”

²⁰ امّا مسیح، شما را با روح‌القدس خود مسح كرده است و از این رو همهٔ شما حقیقت را می‌دانید.

²¹I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth.

²¹ من این را به آن منظور ننوشتم كه شما از حقیقت بی‌خبرید، بلكه چون آن را می‌دانید و آگاه هستید كه هیچ ناراستی از راستی سرچشمه نمی‌گیرد.

²²Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son.

²² پس آن دروغگوی واقعی كیست؟ كسی است كه بگوید عیسی، «مسیح» نیست. این شخص «دشمن مسیح» است چون او هم پدر و هم پسر را رد می‌کند.

²³Whoever denies the Son, the same doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.

²³ هرکه پسر را رد كند پدر را نیز رد كرده است و هرکه پسر را بپذیرد، پدر را نیز پذیرفته است.

²⁴Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father.

²⁴ بگذارید تأثیر پیامی كه از اول شنیدید، در دلهای شما باقی بماند. اگر تأثیر آنچه كه از اول به شما گفته شده است، در دلهای شما بماند، شما همیشه در پدر و پسر خواهید ماند.

²⁵This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.

²⁵ و وعدهٔ عیسی مسیح این است كه او، حیات جاودان به شما خواهد بخشید.

²⁶These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray.

²⁶ من این چیزها را دربارهٔ اشخاصی كه می‌خواهند شما را گمراه سازند، نوشته‌ام.

²⁷As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.

²⁷ امّا شما نیازی ندارید كه كسی شما را تعلیم دهد، زیرا روح‌القدس كه مسیح آن را به شما داده است، در شما زندگی می‌کند. روح خدا در هر مورد به شما تعلیم می‌دهد و تعالیم او بر حقّ است و در آن ناراستی نیست. پس همان‌طور كه روح خدا به شما تعلیم می‌دهد در مسیح بمانید.

²⁸Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

²⁸ آری ای فرزندان من، در او بمانید تا در وقت ظهور او، نه تنها احساس شرمندگی نكنیم، بلكه با اطمینان در حضورش حاضر شویم. اگر درک کرده‌اید كه مسیح کاملاً نیک است، باید این حقیقت را نیز بدانید كه هرکه نیكی كند، فرزند خداست.

²⁹If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness is born of him.

²⁹ اگر درک کرده‌اید كه مسیح کاملاً نیک است، باید این حقیقت را نیز بدانید كه هرکه نیكی كند، فرزند خداست.
