¹Forasmuch then as Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;

¹ پس چون مسیح متحمّل درد و رنجهای جسمانی شد، شما نیز باید خود را برای همین كار آماده سازید. زیرا کسی‌که درد و رنج كشیده است، دیگر گرفتار گناه نمی‌شود

²that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.

² و تا آخر عمر خود بر طبق ارادهٔ خدا زندگی خواهد كرد، نه به هدایت شهوات نفسانی،

³For we have spent enough of our past time doing the desire of the Gentiles, and having walked in lewdness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.

³ زیرا شما در گذشته به قدر كافی وقت خود را صرف كارهایی كه خدا ناشناسان، میل به انجام آن دارند، کرده‌اید. در آن وقت زندگی شما در هرزگی، شهوترانی، مستی، عیاشی، مجالس میگساری و بت‌پرستی شرم‌آور سپری می‌شد

⁴They think it is strange that you don’t run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming:

⁴ و اكنون آنها از اینکه شما دیگر در چنین زندگی بی‌بند و بار آنها شركت نمی‌کنید، تعجّب می‌کنند و از شما بد می‌گویند.

⁵who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

⁵ امّا روزی آنها باید حساب خود را به خدایی كه برای داوری زندگان و مردگان آماده است، پس بدهند.

⁶For to this end the Good News was preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.

⁶ چرا به مردگان بشارت داده شد؟ برای اینكه آنها اگرچه مثل همهٔ آدمیان در جسم مورد داوری قرار گرفتند، امّا در روح مانند خدا زندگی کنند.

⁷But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.

⁷ پایان همه‌چیز نزدیک است. باید حواس شما جمع باشد و با هوشیاری و وقار دعا كنید.

⁸And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.

⁸ مهمتر از همه، محبّت‌تان نسبت به یكدیگر جدّی و قوی باشد زیرا محبّت، گناهان زیادی را می‌پوشاند.

⁹Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

⁹ با خوشحالی و سخاوتمندی نسبت به یكدیگر مهمان‌نوازی كنید.

¹⁰As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms.

¹⁰ به عنوان کسی‌که بركات گوناگون خدا را یافته است، استعدادها و عطایای خود را برای خیریّت دیگران به كار ببرید.

¹¹If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

¹¹ مثلاً کسی‌که وعظ می‌کند، طوری سخن بگوید که گویی از طرف خدا پیامی دارد و آنکه خدمت می‌کند با قدرتی كه خدا به او عطا می‌فرماید، خدمت كند تا از این راه خدا در همه‌چیز به وسیلهٔ عیسی مسیح جلال یابد. آری، جلال و قدرت تا به ابد از آن او باد، آمین!

¹²Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.

¹² ای عزیزان، از آزمایش‌های سختی كه برای امتحان شما پیش می‌آید، تعجّب نكنید و طوری رفتار ننمایید كه گویی امری غیر عادی برای شما پیش آمده است.

¹³But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy.

¹³ در عوض، از اینکه در رنجهای مسیح شریک شده‌اید، شادمان باشید تا در وقتی‌که جلال او ظاهر می‌شود، شادی و خوشی شما کامل گردد.

¹⁴If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.

¹⁴ خوشا به حال شما اگر به‌خاطر نام مسیح به شما دشنام دهند، زیرا در آن صورت، روح پر جلال الهی در شما ساكن است.

¹⁵For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or a meddler in other men’s matters.

¹⁵ امّا هیچ‌یک از شما نباید به‌خاطر قتل یا دزدی یا بدكاری یا فضولی دچار زحمت گردد.

¹⁶But if one of you suffers for being a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.

¹⁶ امّا اگر به عنوان یک مسیحی، رنج می‌‌بینید ناراحت نشوید، بلكه برای اینکه نام مسیح را برخود دارید، خدا را شكر كنید.

¹⁷For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God. If it begins first with us, what will happen to those who don’t obey the Good News of God?

¹⁷ وقت آن رسیده است كه داوری فرزندان خدا شروع شود و اگر ما اولین كسانی هستیم كه داوری می‌شویم، نصیب و عاقبت کسانی‌که انجیل خدا رد كردند، چه خواهد بود؟

¹⁸“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?” Proverbs 11:31

¹⁸ و اگر نجات نیكان این‌قدر دشوار است، عاقبت گناهكاران و اشخاص دور از خدا چه خواهد بود؟ بنابراین، اگر كسی مطابق ارادهٔ خدا، دچار رنج و زحمت شده است، باید با نیکوکاری جان خود را به دست آفریدگاری كه همیشه به وعده‌های خود وفا می‌کند، بسپارد.

¹⁹Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.

¹⁹ بنابراین، اگر كسی مطابق ارادهٔ خدا، دچار رنج و زحمت شده است، باید با نیکوکاری جان خود را به دست آفریدگاری كه همیشه به وعده‌های خود وفا می‌کند، بسپارد.
