¹Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim Zophim, of the hill country of Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephraimite:

¹ رامه‌تایم شهری بود در کوهستان افرایم. در این شهر مردی زندگی می‌کرد به نام القانه که پدرش یروحام بود. یروحام پسر الیهو، الیهو پسر توحو و توحو پسر صوف بود.

²and he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

² القانه دو زن داشت، نام یکی حنا بود و دیگری فنینه. فنینه دارای اولاد بود، امّا حنا فرزندی نداشت.

³This man went up out of his city from year to year to worship and to sacrifice to Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. of Armies in Shiloh. The two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, priests to Yahweh, were there.

³ القانه هرسال برای عبادت از شهر خود به شیلوه می‌رفت تا به حضور خداوند متعال قربانی بگذراند. در آنجا دو پسر عیلی، یعنی حفنی و فینحاس به عنوان کاهنان خداوند، خدمت می‌کردند.

⁴When the day came that Elkanah sacrificed, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

⁴ القانه هرگاه قربانی می‌کرد، از گوشت آن به زن خود فنینه و همهٔ پسران و دختران خود یک سهم می‌داد.

⁵but to Hannah he gave a double portion; for he loved Hannah, but Yahweh had shut up her womb.

⁵ امّا به حنا دو سهم می‌داد، چون حنا را خیلی دوست می‌داشت، گرچه آن زن بی‌اولاد بود.

⁶Her rival provoked her severely, to make her fret, because Yahweh had shut up her womb.

⁶ چون خداوند حنا را از داشتن اولاد بی‌بهره ساخته بود، فنینه، هووی او همیشه به او طعنه می‌زد و او را ناراحت می‌کرد.

⁷As he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of Yahweh, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and didn’t eat.

⁷ این کار، هر ساله تکرار می‌شد. هر وقت که به معبد خداوند می‌رفتند، فنینه او را مسخره می‌کرد و به گریه می‌انداخت؛ در نتیجه حنا چیزی نمی‌خورد.

⁸Elkanah her husband said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? Why don’t you eat? Why is your heart grieved? Am I not better to you than ten sons?”

⁸ شوهرش از او می‌پرسید: «چرا گریه می‌کنی و چیزی نمی‌خوری و غمگین هستی؟ آیا من برای تو از ده‌ها فرزند پسر بهتر نیستم؟»

⁹So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest was sitting on his seat by the doorpost of Yahweh’s temple.

⁹ یک شب زمانی که در شیلوه بودند، حنا بعد از صرف غذا برخاست و بیرون رفت. عیلی کاهن در جلوی دروازهٔ معبد خداوند نشسته بود.

¹⁰She was in bitterness of soul, and prayed to Yahweh, and wept bitterly.

¹⁰ حنا درحالی‌که با سوز دل به درگاه خداوند دعا می‌کرد، زار‌ زار می‌گریست.

¹¹She vowed a vow, and said, “Yahweh of Armies, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a boy, then I will give him to Yahweh all the days of his life, and no razor shall come on his head.”

¹¹ در همان حال نذر کرد و گفت: «ای خداوند متعال، بر کنیز خود نظر کرده بر من رحمت نما. دعایم را بپذیر و پسری به من عطا فرما و قول می‌دهم که او را وقف تو کنم و تا زمانی که زنده باشد موی سر او هرگز تراشیده نشود.»

¹²It happened, as she continued praying before Yahweh, that Eli saw her mouth.

¹² دعای حنا طولانی شد، عیلی متوجّه او شد و دید که لبهایش حرکت می‌کنند.

¹³Now Hannah spoke in her heart. Only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard. Therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

¹³ چون حنا در دل خود دعا می‌کرد، صدایش شنیده نمی‌شد و تنها لبهایش تکان می‌خوردند. عیلی فکر کرد که او مست است.

¹⁴Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunken? Put away your wine from you.”

¹⁴ به حنا گفت: «تا کی مست می‌شوی؟ شراب را کنار بگذار.»

¹⁵Hannah answered, “No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit. I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but I poured out my soul before Yahweh.

¹⁵ حنا جواب داد: «نخیر آقا، شراب ننوشیده‌ام و مست نیستم، بلکه شخص دل شکسته‌ای هستم که با خداوند خود راز و نیاز می‌کنم.

¹⁶Don’t count your handmaid for a wicked woman; for I have been speaking out of the abundance of my complaint and my provocation.”

¹⁶ فکر نکنید که من یک زن میگسار هستم، من از بخت بد خود می‌نالم.»

¹⁷Then Eli answered, “Go in peace; and may the God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” of Israel grant your petition that you have asked of him.”

¹⁷ عیلی گفت: «به سلامت برو و خدای اسرائیل تو را به مرادت برساند.»

¹⁸She said, “Let your handmaid find favor in your sight.” So the woman went her way, and ate; and her facial expression wasn’t sad any more.

¹⁸ حنا گفت: «از لطفی که به این کنیزت دارید، تشکّر می‌کنم.» بعد حنا به خانهٔ خود رفت. خورد و نوشید و دیگر آثار غم در چهره‌اش دیده نمی‌شد.

¹⁹They rose up in the morning early, and worshiped before Yahweh, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and Yahweh remembered her.

¹⁹ صبح روز بعد القانه و خانواده‌اش برخاستند و به عبادت خداوند پرداختند، بعد به خانهٔ خود در شهر رامه بر گشتند. القانه با زن خود، حنا همبستر شد. خداوند دعای حنا را مستجاب فرمود،

²⁰It happened, when the time had come, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she named him Samuel, Samuel sounds like the Hebrew for “heard by God.” saying, “Because I have asked him of Yahweh.”

²⁰ پس از مدّتی حنا حامله شد و پسری به دنیا آورد و او را سموئیل یعنی «از خدا خواسته شده» نامید.

²¹The man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer to Yahweh the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

²¹ دوباره زمان آن رسید که القانه و خانواده‌اش برای گذرانیدن قربانی سالیانه به شیلوه بروند و نیز نذر مخصوص خود را ادا نمایند.

²²But Hannah didn’t go up; for she said to her husband, “Not until the child is weaned; then I will bring him, that he may appear before Yahweh, and stay there forever.”

²² امّا حنا با آنها نرفت و به شوهر خود گفت: «همین که طفل را از شیر بگیرم، او را به حضور خداوند می‌آورم تا همیشه در آنجا بماند.»

²³Elkanah her husband said to her, “Do what seems good to you. Wait until you have weaned him; only may Yahweh establish his word.” So the woman waited and nursed her son, until she weaned him.

²³ القانه گفت: «بسیار خوب، صبر کن تا طفل از شیر گرفته شود. هرچه که رضای خداوند باشد انجام شود.» پس حنا تا زمانی که طفل از شیر باز گرفته شد، آنجا ماند.

²⁴When she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bulls, and one ephah 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel of meal, and a bottle of wine, and brought him to Yahweh’s house in Shiloh. The child was young.

²⁴ وقتی‌که او طفل را از شیر گرفت، وی را که هنوز بسیار کوچک بود برداشته با یک گوسالهٔ سه ساله، یک کیسه آرد و یک مشک شراب به معبد خداوند در شیلوه برد.

²⁵They killed the bull, and brought the child to Eli.

²⁵ در آنجا گوساله را قربانی کرد و طفل را پیش عیلی برد

²⁶She said, “Oh, my lord, as your soul lives, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here, praying to Yahweh.

²⁶ و گفت: «آقا، آیا مرا به‌خاطر دارید؟ من همان زنی هستم که دیدید در همین اینجا ایستاده بودم و به درگاه خداوند دعا می‌کردم.

²⁷For this child I prayed; and Yahweh has given me my petition which I asked of him.

²⁷ من از خداوند تقاضای یک پسر کردم و او دعایم را مستجاب نمود و این پسر را به من عطا کرد. حالا می‌خواهم او را وقف خداوند کنم که تا زنده است در خدمت او باشد.» سپس آنها خداوند را در همان‌جا پرستش کردند.

²⁸Therefore also I have granted him to Yahweh. As long as he lives he is granted to Yahweh.” He worshiped Yahweh there.

²⁸ حالا می‌خواهم او را وقف خداوند کنم که تا زنده است در خدمت او باشد.» سپس آنها خداوند را در همان‌جا پرستش کردند.
