¹This is a faithful saying: if a man seeks the office of an overseer or, superintendents, or bishops , he desires a good work.

¹ این گفته درست است كه اگر كسی مایل به سرپرستی در كلیسا باشد، در آرزوی كار بسیار خوبی است.

²The overseer therefore must be without reproach, the husband of one wife, temperate, sensible, modest, hospitable, good at teaching;

² سرپرست كلیسا باید مردی بی‌عیب، صاحب یک زن، خویشتندار، هوشیار، منظّم، مهمان‌‌نواز و معلّمی توانا باشد.

³not a drinker, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous;

³ او باید ملایم و صلح جو باشد، نه میگسار و جنگجو و پول‌پرست.

⁴one who rules his own house well, having children in subjection with all reverence;

⁴ بلكه باید خانوادهٔ خود را به خوبی اداره كند و فرزندانش را طوری تربیت نماید كه از او با احترام كامل اطاعت كنند،

⁵(but if a man doesn’t know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the assembly of God?)

⁵ زیرا اگر مردی نتواند خانوادهٔ خود را اداره كند، پس چگونه می‌تواند از كلیسای خدا توجّه نماید؟

⁶not a new convert, lest being puffed up he fall into the same condemnation as the devil.

⁶ او نباید تازه ایمان باشد، مبادا مغرور گشته، مثل ابلیس محكوم شود.

⁷Moreover he must have good testimony from those who are outside, to avoid falling into reproach and the snare of the devil.

⁷ علاوه بر این، او باید در میان افراد خارج از كلیسا نیكنام باشد تا مورد سرزنش واقع نگردد و به دام ابلیس نیفتد.

⁸ Servants or, Deacons. , in the same way, must be reverent, not double-tongued, not addicted to much wine, not greedy for money;

⁸ همچنین خادمان كلیسا باید موقّر باشند و از دورویی مبّرا و از افراط در شرابخواری و یا پول‌پرستی بپرهیزند.

⁹holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

⁹ ایشان باید حقایق مكشوف شدهٔ ایمان را با وجدان پاک نگاه دارند.

¹⁰Let them also first be tested; then let them serve or, serve as deacons if they are blameless.

¹⁰ اول مورد آزمایش قرار بگیرند و درصورتی‌كه بی‌عیب بودند، آن وقت به خدمت بپردازند.

¹¹Their wives in the same way must be reverent, not slanderers, temperate, faithful in all things.

¹¹ زنانشان نیز باید سنگین و موقّر بوده و شایعه‌ساز نباشند و در هر امر خویشتن‌دار و باوفا باشند.

¹²Let servants or, deacons be husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

¹² خادمان كلیسا فقط دارای یک زن باشند و فرزندان و خانوادهٔ خود را به خوبی اداره كنند.

¹³For those who have served well or, served well as deacons gain for themselves a good standing, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

¹³ کسانی‌که به عنوان خادم به خوبی خدمت می‌کنند، برای خود مقامی خوب و در ایمانی كه در مسیح عیسی بنا شده، اعتماد زیادی به دست می‌آورند.

¹⁴These things I write to you, hoping to come to you shortly;

¹⁴ امیدوارم بزودی پیش تو بیایم، امّا این را می‌نویسم

¹⁵but if I wait long, that you may know how men ought to behave themselves in God’s house, which is the assembly of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

¹⁵ تا درصورتی كه در آمدن تأخیر كردم، بدانی كه رفتار ما در خانوادهٔ خدا، كه كلیسای خدای زنده و ستون و پایه حقیقت است، چگونه باید باشد. هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند انكار كند كه راز آیین ما بزرگ است: «او به صورت انسان ظاهر شد، روح‌القدس حقانیّتش را ثابت نمود، فرشتگان او را دیدند. مژدهٔ او در میان ملّتها اعلام شد در جهان، مردم به او ایمان آوردند، و با جلال به عالم بالا ربوده شد.»

¹⁶Without controversy, the mystery of godliness is great: God was revealed in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, and received up in glory.

¹⁶ هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند انكار كند كه راز آیین ما بزرگ است: «او به صورت انسان ظاهر شد، روح‌القدس حقانیّتش را ثابت نمود، فرشتگان او را دیدند. مژدهٔ او در میان ملّتها اعلام شد در جهان، مردم به او ایمان آوردند، و با جلال به عالم بالا ربوده شد.»
