¹Let as many as are bondservants under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honor, that the name of God and the doctrine not be blasphemed.

¹ همهٔ آنانی كه زیر یوغ بردگی هستند، اربابان خود را شایستهٔ احترام كامل بدانند تا هیچ‌کس از نام خدا و تعلیم ما بدگویی نكند.

²Those who have believing masters, let them not despise them, because they are brothers, but rather let them serve them, because those who partake of the benefit are believing and beloved. Teach and exhort these things.

² غلامانی كه اربابان ایماندار دارند، نباید به دلیل اینکه برادر دینی هستند، به آنها بی‌احترامی كنند بلکه باید بهتر خدمت کنند. چون آنانی كه از خدمت ایشان بهره‌مند می‌گردند، مؤمن و عزیز هستند. باید این چیزها را تعلیم دهی و اصرار كنی كه مطابق آنها عمل كنند.

³If anyone teaches a different doctrine, and doesn’t consent to sound words, the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness,

³ اگر كسی تعلیمی به غیراز این بدهد و تعلیمش با سخنان خداوند ما عیسی مسیح و تعالیم آیین ما سازگار نباشد،

⁴he is conceited, knowing nothing, but obsessed with arguments, disputes, and word battles, from which come envy, strife, insulting, evil suspicions,

⁴ خودپسند و بی‌فهم است و تمایل ناسالمی به مجادله و منازعه بر سر كلمات دارد. این باعث حسادت، دسته‌بندی، توهین، بدگمانی و

⁵constant friction of people of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. Withdraw yourself from such. NU omits “Withdraw yourself from such.”

⁵ مباحثات دایمی در بین اشخاصی می‌شود كه در افكار خود فاسد و از حقیقت دور هستند. آنها گمان می‌کنند كه خداپرستی وسیله‌ای است برای كسب منفعت.

⁶But godliness with contentment is great gain.

⁶ البتّه خداپرستی همراه با قناعت، منفعت بسیار دارد.

⁷For we brought nothing into the world, and we certainly can’t carry anything out.

⁷ زیرا ما چیزی به این جهان نیاورده‌ایم و نمی‌توانیم از این جهان چیزی ببریم.

⁸But having food and clothing, we will be content with that.

⁸ پس اگر خوراک و پوشاک داشته باشیم، به آنها قناعت می‌کنیم.

⁹But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction.

⁹ امّا آنانی كه در آرزوی جمع كردن ثروت هستند، به وسوسه و دام آرزوهای پوچ و زیان‌بخشی كه آدمی را به تباهی و نیستی می‌کشاند گرفتار می‌شوند.

¹⁰For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

¹⁰ زیرا عشق به پول، سرچشمهٔ همه‌نوع بدیهاست و به علّت همین عشق است كه، بعضی‌ها از ایمان منحرف گشته، قلبهای خود را با رنجهای بسیار جریحه‌دار ساخته‌اند.

¹¹But you, man of God, flee these things, and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness.

¹¹ امّا تو، ای مرد خدا، از همهٔ اینها بگریز و نیكویی مطلق و خدا‌پرستی و ایمان و محبّت و بردباری و ملایمت را پیشهٔ خود ساز.

¹²Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you confessed the good confession in the sight of many witnesses.

¹² در مسابقهٔ بزرگ ایمان تلاش كن و حیات جاودانی را به چنگ آور؛ زیرا خدا تو را برای آن خوانده است و در حضور شاهدان بسیار، به خوبی به ایمان خود اعتراف كردی.

¹³I command you before God, who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate testified the good confession,

¹³ در برابر خدایی كه به همه‌چیز هستی می‌بخشد. و در حضور مسیح عیسی كه پیش «پنطیوس پیلاطس» اعترافی نیكو كرد، تو را موظّف می‌سازم

¹⁴that you keep the commandment without spot, blameless, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ;

¹⁴ كه این فرمان را دور از سرزنش، تا روزی كه خداوند ما عیسی مسیح ظهور كند، نگاه داری.

¹⁵which in its own times he will show, who is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

¹⁵ و در زمانی‌که او معیّن كرده، آن یكتا حكمران متبارک كه پادشاه پادشاهان و خداوند خداوندان است این را ظاهر خواهد ساخت.

¹⁶who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light; whom no man has seen, nor can see: to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

¹⁶ به آن یكتا وجودی كه فناناپذیر است و در نوری ساكن می‌باشد كه محال است كسی به آن نزدیک گردد و هیچ‌کس هرگز او را ندیده و نمی‌تواند ببیند، عزّت و قدرت جاودان باد، آمین.

¹⁷Charge those who are rich in this present world that they not be haughty, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy;

¹⁷ به ثروتمندان این جهان دستور بده كه خودبین نباشند و به چیزهای بی‌ثبات مانند مال دنیا متّکی نباشند. بلكه به خدایی توکّل كنند كه همه‌چیز را به فراوانی تهیّه می‌کند تا ما از آنها لذّت ببریم.

¹⁸that they do good, that they be rich in good works, that they be ready to distribute, willing to communicate;

¹⁸ همچنین به آنها فرمان بده كه خیرخواه و در کارهای نیک غنی بوده، با سخاوت و بخشنده باشند.

¹⁹laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold of eternal life.

¹⁹ به این طریق گنجی برای خود ذخیره خواهند كرد كه اساس محكمی برای آیندهٔ آنها بوده و آن حیاتی را كه حیات واقعی است به دست خواهند آورد.

²⁰Timothy, guard that which is committed to you, turning away from the empty chatter and oppositions of the knowledge which is falsely so called;

²⁰ ای تیموتاؤس آنچه را به تو سپرده شده است، حفظ كن. از سخنان بی‌معنی و كفرآمیز و مباحثاتی كه به غلط «دانش» نامیده می‌شود، دوری كن. زیرا بعضی‌ها كه خود را در این چیزها متخصص می‌دانند، از ایمان منحرف گشته‌اند. فیض خدا با همهٔ شما باد.
