¹When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, one hundred eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam.

¹ وقتی رحبعام وارد اورشلیم شد، لشکری را که متشکّل از صد و هشتاد هزار نفر از مردان جنگ آزموده یهودا و بنیامین بودند، مجهّز کرد تا به جنگ اسرائیل بروند و سلطنت را به رحبعام باز گردانند.

²But the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

² امّا خداوند به شمعیای نبی فرمود:

³“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying,

³ «به رحبعام، پسر سلیمان پادشاه یهودیه و مردم یهودا و بنیامین بگویید که خداوند چنین می‌فرماید:

⁴‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers! Return every man to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to the words of Yahweh, and returned from going against Jeroboam.

⁴ شما نباید با خویشاوندان خود بجنگید و علیه ایشان برخیزید، همه به خانه‌های خود بازگردید، زیرا این ارادهٔ من است.» پس ایشان کلام خداوند را پیروی کردند و از رفتن علیه یربعام خودداری کردند.

⁵Rehoboam lived in Jerusalem, and built cities for defense in Judah.

⁵ رحبعام در اورشلیم ماند و برای دفاع از یهودیه و بنیامین این شهرها را مستحکم نمود:

⁶He built Bethlehem, and Etam, and Tekoa,

⁶ بیت‌لحم، عیتام، تقوع،

⁷Beth Zur, and Soco, and Adullam,

⁷ بیت صور، سوکو، عدُلام،

⁸and Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,

⁸ جت، مریشه، زیف،

⁹and Adoraim, and Lachish, and Azekah,

⁹ ادورایم، لاکیش، عزیقه،

¹⁰and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.

¹⁰ صرعه، ایلون و حبرون. این شهرها در سرزمین یهودا و بنیامین واقع بودند.

¹¹He fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine.

¹¹ او دژهای مستحکمی ساخت و در آنان فرماندهانی گمارد و در آنها غذا، روغن و شراب انبار کرد.

¹²He put shields and spears in every city, and made them exceeding strong. Judah and Benjamin belonged to him.

¹² او همچنین در همهٔ شهرها سپرها و نیزه‌های بزرگ قرار داد و آنها را بسیار استوار کرد. به این ترتیب او یهودا و بنیامین را در کنترل خود نگاه‌ داشت.

¹³The priests and the Levites who were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border.

¹³ کاهنان و لاویانی که در سراسر اسرائیل بودند، از سرزمین خود به او پیوستند.

¹⁴For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest’s office to Yahweh;

¹⁴ لاویان زمینهای مشترک و دارایی خود را رها کردند و به اورشلیم در یهودا آمدند. زیرا یربعام و پسرانش از خدمت ایشان در نقش کاهنان خداوند جلوگیری کردند

¹⁵and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the male goats, and for the calves which he had made.

¹⁵ یربعام کاهنانی برای خود برگزید تا در پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها خدمت کنند و بُتهایی را که به شکل گوساله و بُز ساخته بود، پرستش کنند.

¹⁶After them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Yahweh, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice to Yahweh, the God of their fathers.

¹⁶ کسانی‌که پیروی کردن از خداوند، خدای اسرائیل را در دل داشتند، از همهٔ طایفه‌های اسرائیل به دنبال کاهنان و لاویان به اورشلیم آمدند تا برای خداوند، خدای نیاکانشان قربانی کنند.

¹⁷So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon.

¹⁷ ایشان پادشاهی یهودا را نیرومند ساختند و مدّت سه سال رحبعام، پسر سلیمان را حمایت نمودند. ایشان در مدّت سه سال در راه داوود و سلیمان گام برداشتند.

¹⁸Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and of Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;

¹⁸ رحبعام، محله، دختر یریموت را به همسری برگزید. یریموت پسر داوود و مادرش، ابیحایل، دختر الیاب و نوه یَسی بود.

¹⁹and she bore him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham.

¹⁹ ایشان سه پسر به نامهای یَعُوش و شمَریا و زَهم داشتند.

²⁰After her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bore him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.

²⁰ سپس رحبعام معکه، دختر ابشالوم را گرفت و او ابیا، عتای، زیزا و شلومیت را به دنیا آورد.

²¹Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and sixty concubines, and became the father of twenty-eight sons and sixty daughters.)

²¹ رحبعام هجده زن و شصت صیغه داشت و از آنها صاحب بیست و هشت پسر و شصت دختر شد. او معکه، دختر ابشالوم را بیش از همهٔ زنان خود دوست داشت

²²Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, the prince among his brothers; for he intended to make him king.

²² و پسرش، ابیا را به عنوان ولیعهد خود تعیین کرد. رحبعام با خردمندی بعضی از پسران خود را در شهرهای دیواردار یهودا و بنیامین گماشت. و نیازهای ایشان را به فراوانی برآورده کرد و همسران بسیاری برایشان گرفت.

²³He dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, to every fortified city: and he gave them food in abundance. He sought for them many wives.

²³ رحبعام با خردمندی بعضی از پسران خود را در شهرهای دیواردار یهودا و بنیامین گماشت. و نیازهای ایشان را به فراوانی برآورده کرد و همسران بسیاری برایشان گرفت.
