¹In the six and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa, Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not allow anyone to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

¹ در سال سی و ششم آسا، بعشا پادشاه اسرائیل، علیه یهودا برخاست و شهر رامه را مستحکم ساخت تا از رفت و آمد به سرزمین پادشاه یهودا، آسا جلوگیری کند.

²Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of Yahweh and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben Hadad king of Syria, who lived at Damascus, saying,

² آنگاه آسا، نقره و طلا از خزانهٔ معبد بزرگ و خزانهٔ کاخ پادشاه برداشت و برای بنهدد، پادشاه سوریه که در دمشق سکونت داشت، همراه با این پیام فرستاد:

³“Let there be a treaty between me and you, as there was between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.”

³ «بیا تا با هم متّحد شویم، مانند اتّحادی که بین پدران ما بود، من این طلا و نقره را برای تو می‌فرستم، برو و اتّحاد خود را با بعشا، پادشاه اسرائیل بشکن تا او سپاه خود را از اینجا خارج کند.»

⁴Ben Hadad listened to king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they struck Ijon, and Dan, and Abel Maim, and all the storage cities of Naphtali.

⁴ بنهدد با آسای پادشاه موافقت کرد و فرماندهان ارتش خود را علیه شهرهای اسرائیل فرستاد و آنها شهرهای عیون، دان و آبل بیت معکه، منطقهٔ دریاچهٔ جلیل و تمام سرزمین نفتالی را تسخیر کردند.

⁵It happened, when Baasha heard of it, that he left off building Ramah, and let his work cease.

⁵ هنگامی‌که بعشا این را شنید، مستحکم ساختن رامه را متوقّف کرد و آن را رها ساخت.

⁶Then Asa the king took all Judah; and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and its timber, with which Baasha had built; and he built therewith Geba and Mizpah.

⁶ آنگاه آسای پادشاه، مردم یهودا را آورد، و ایشان سنگها و الواری را که بعشا برای مستحکم ساختن رامه استفاده می‌کرد با خود برای مستحکم ساختن شهرهای جبع و مصفه بردند.

⁷At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on Yahweh your God, therefore is the army of the king of Syria escaped out of your hand.

⁷ در آن زمان حنانی رائی نزد آسا، پادشاه یهودا آمد و به او چنین گفت: «چون تو بر پادشاه سوریه تکیه کردی و نه به خداوند خدای خود، ارتش پادشاه سوریه از چنگ تو خلاصی یافت.

⁸Weren’t the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge army, with chariots and horsemen exceeding many? Yet, because you relied on Yahweh, he delivered them into your hand.

⁸ آیا ارتش حبشه و لیبی ارتشی عظیم نبودند که ارّابه‌ها و سواره نظام بزرگی داشتند؟ با وجود این، چون تو به خداوند تکیه کردی، او ایشان را به دست تو تسلیم کرد.

⁹For the eyes of Yahweh run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein you have done foolishly; for from henceforth you shall have wars.”

⁹ چشمان خداوند تمام جهان را زیر نظر دارد تا به کسانی‌که نسبت به او با تمام دل وفادارند، توانایی ‌بخشد. تو کار احمقانه‌ای کردی. از این پس تو در جنگ خواهی بود.»

¹⁰Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.

¹⁰ آنگاه آسا آن‌چنان از رائی خشمگین شد که او را به زندان انداخت، چون از این موضوع بسیار غضبناک بود. و از آن به بعد آسا با مردم با بی‌رحمی رفتار کرد.

¹¹Behold, the acts of Asa, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.

¹¹ کارهای آسا از آغاز تا پایان در کتاب پادشاهان یهودا و اسرائیل نوشته شده‌اند.

¹²In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was diseased in his feet; his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he didn’t seek Yahweh, but to the physicians.

¹² در سال سی و نهم سلطنت، آسا به بیماری پا دچار شد ولی حتّی وقتی بیماری‌اش وخیم شد، از خداوند کمک نخواست بلکه از پزشکان یاری گرفت.

¹³Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign.

¹³ آنگاه آسا با نیاکان خود خوابید، و در سال چهل و یکم سلطنتش در گذشت. جسد او را در تابوتی که با عطرهای گوناگون توسط عطاران تهیّه شده بود، در گوری که در شهر داوود برای خود آماده کرده بود، دفن کردند و آتش بزرگی به افتخار او افروختند.

¹⁴They buried him in his own tombs, which he had dug out for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and various kinds of spices prepared by the perfumers’ art: and they made a very great burning for him.

¹⁴ جسد او را در تابوتی که با عطرهای گوناگون توسط عطاران تهیّه شده بود، در گوری که در شهر داوود برای خود آماده کرده بود، دفن کردند و آتش بزرگی به افتخار او افروختند.
