¹It happened after this, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them some of the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to battle.

¹ پس از مدّتی موآبیان و عمونیان با عدّه‌ای از معونیان به جنگ یهوشافاط آمدند.

²Then some came who told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea from Syria. Behold, they are in Hazazon Tamar” (that is, En Gedi).

² قاصدان آمدند و به یهوشافاط گفتند لشکر بزرگی از سوریه، از آن سوی دریای مرده به تو حمله کرده‌اند و تاکنون به حصون تامار که نام دیگرش عین جدّی است رسیده‌اند.

³Jehoshaphat was alarmed, and set himself to seek to Yahweh. He proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah.

³ یهوشافاط هراسان شد و برای راهنمایی پیش خداوند دعا کرد. سپس اعلام کرد که در سراسر یهودیه، مردم روزه بگیرند.

⁴Judah gathered themselves together, to seek help from Yahweh. They came out of all the cities of Judah to seek Yahweh.

⁴ از سراسر یهودا، همه به اورشلیم آمدند تا از خداوند راهنمایی بگیرند.

⁵Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Yahweh, before the new court;

⁵ مردم اورشلیم در حیاط جدید معبد بزرگ گرد هم آمدند. یهوشافاط پادشاه در برابر ایشان ایستاد و

⁶and he said, “Yahweh, the God of our fathers, aren’t you God in heaven? Aren’t you ruler over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in your hand, so that no one is able to withstand you.

⁶ چنین گفت: «ای خداوند، خدای نیاکان ما، تو در آسمان بر تمام ملّتها و جهان فرمانروایی می‌کنی. تو قدرتمند و متعال هستی، و هیچ‌کس نمی‌تواند با تو مخالفت نماید.

⁷Didn’t you, our God, drive out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and give it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever?

⁷ ای خدای ما، آیا تو ساکنان این سرزمین را از مقابل قوم خود، اسرائیل بیرون راندی و آن را میراثِ جاودانِ بازماندگانِ دوستِ خود ابراهیم نمودی؟

⁸They lived in it, and have built you a sanctuary in it for your name, saying,

⁸ ایشان در آن زیست می‌کردند و به نام تو معبدی ساخته‌اند و می‌دانند

⁹‘If evil comes on us—the sword, judgment, pestilence, or famine—we will stand before this house, and before you, (for your name is in this house), and cry to you in our affliction, and you will hear and save.’

⁹ اگر دچار بلایی گردند یا مجازات شوند، یا بیماری یا خشکسالی بیاید، وقتی ایشان بیایند و در مقابل این معبد بزرگ که تو را در آن می‌پرستیدند، در حضور تو بایستند و در پریشانی خود پیش تو نیایش کنند، تو ایشان را خواهی شنید و ایشان را رهایی خواهی بخشید.

¹⁰Now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned aside from them, and didn’t destroy them;

¹⁰ «اکنون مردم عمون، موآب و اَدوم به ما یورش آورده‌اند، هنگامی‌که نیاکان ما از مصر بیرون آمدند، تو به ایشان اجازه ندادی وارد سرزمین آنها گردند و نیاکان ما از کنار ایشان گذشتند و ایشان را نابود نکردند،

¹¹behold, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit.

¹¹ حالا ببین ایشان چگونه پاداش ما را می‌دهند، ایشان آمده‌اند تا ما را از سرزمینی که تو به ما داده‌ای، بیرون کنند.

¹²Our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither know we what to do, but our eyes are on you.”

¹² تو خدای ما، هستی! ایشان را مجازات کن، زیرا ما در برابر این ارتش بزرگی که به ما یورش آورده درمانده هستیم، ما نمی‌دانیم چه باید کرد و به تو چشم دوخته‌ایم.»

¹³All Judah stood before Yahweh, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

¹³ همهٔ مردان یهودا با زن و فرزندانشان در معبد بزرگ ایستاده بودند،

¹⁴Then the Spirit of Yahweh came on Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the assembly;

¹⁴ آنگاه روح خداوند به یحزیئیل لاوی که در میان آنها بود، فرود آمد. یحزئیل پسر زکریا، پسر بنایاهو، پسر یعیئیل، پسر متنیای از خانوادهٔ آساف بود.

¹⁵and he said, “Listen, all Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat. Thus says Yahweh to you, ‘Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

¹⁵ یحزیئیل گفت: «گوش فرا دهید ای یهودا و ساکنان اورشلیم و ای یهوشافاطِ پادشاه! خداوند می‌فرماید که از این ارتش ترسان مباشید و ناامید نشوید، زیرا این نبرد شما نیست، بلکه نبرد خداست.

¹⁶Tomorrow go down against them. Behold, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz. You shall find them at the end of the valley, before the wilderness of Jeruel.

¹⁶ فردا به مقابلهٔ آنها بروید. ایشان را در گذرگاه صیص در انتهای وادی بیابان یروئیل می‌بینید.

¹⁷You will not need to fight this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the salvation of Yahweh with you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Go out against them tomorrow, for Yahweh is with you.’”

¹⁷ این نبردِ شما نیست که در آن بجنگید، در مواضع خود مستقر شوید، و حرکت نکنید و پیروزی خداوند را برای خود ببینید. ای یهودا و اورشلیم هراسان و ناامید نباشید. فردا برای مبارزه علیه ایشان بروید و خداوند با شما خواهد بود.»

¹⁸Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell down before Yahweh, worshipping Yahweh.

¹⁸ آنگاه یهوشافاط خم شد و صورت خود را بر زمین نهاد و تمام ساکنان یهودا و اورشلیم در برابر خداوند سجده نمودند و خداوند را پرستش کردند.

¹⁹The Levites, of the children of the Kohathites and of the children of the Korahites, stood up to praise Yahweh, the God of Israel, with an exceeding loud voice.

¹⁹ لاویانی از خاندان قهات و قورح برخاستند تا خداوند، خدای اسرائیل را با صدای بلند ستایش کنند.

²⁰They rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Listen to me, Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem! Believe in Yahweh your God, so you shall be established! Believe his prophets, so you shall prosper.”

²⁰ بامدادان برخاستند و به بیابان تقوع رفتند. درحالی‌که خارج می‌شدند، یهوشافاط ایستاد و گفت: «ای مردم یهودا و اورشلیم، به من گوش فرا دهید! به خداوند خدای خود، ایمان داشته باشید تا استوار بمانید! انبیای او را باور کنید تا موفّق شوید.»

²¹When he had taken counsel with the people, he appointed those who should sing to Yahweh, and give praise in holy array, as they went out before the army, and say, Give thanks to Yahweh; for his loving kindness endures forever.

²¹ پس از مشورت با مردم، پادشاه دستور داد تا نوازندگان آراسته به لباسهایی را که در مراسم روحانی می‌پوشیدند به تن کنند و در پیشاپیش ارتش بروند و بخوانند: «خدا را شکر کنید، زیرا که محبّت پایدار او جاودانه است.»

²²When they began to sing and to praise, Yahweh set ambushers against the children of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; and they were struck.

²² هنگامی‌که ایشان آغاز به خواندن و ستایش خداوند کردند، خداوند ارتش مهاجمان را به وحشت انداخت.

²³For the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, utterly to kill and destroy them: and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, everyone helped to destroy another.

²³ ارتش موآبیانا و عمونیان به ارتش اَدومیان حمله کردند و ایشان را کاملاً نابود کردند. و آنگاه باقی‌مانده‌ها در یک نبرد، یکدیگر را نابود کردند.

²⁴When Judah came to the place overlooking the wilderness, they looked at the multitude; and behold, they were dead bodies fallen to the earth, and there were none who escaped.

²⁴ هنگامی‌که ارتش یهودا به بُرج دیده‌بانی که در بیابان بود رسیدند، به سوی دشمن نگاه کردند و دیدند که همه به زمین افتاده‌ و مرده‌اند حتّی یک نفر هم جان بدر نبرده بود.

²⁵When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take their spoil, they found among them in abundance both riches and dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away: and they were three days in taking the spoil, it was so much.

²⁵ یهوشافاط و ارتش او به تاراج پرداختند و ایشان غنایم فراوانی از جامه‌ها و اشیای گرانبها یافتند، ایشان برای جمع‌آوری غنیمت‌ها سه روز را سپری کردند، امّا آن‌قدر زیاد بود که نتوانستند همه را با خود ببرند.

²⁶On the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Beracah; for there they blessed Yahweh: therefore the name of that place was called The valley of Beracah to this day.

²⁶ در روز چهارم در دشت برکت گرد آمدند و برای همهٔ کارهایی که خداوند انجام داده بود، او را ستایش کردند. به همین سبب است که این مکان را دشت برکت می‌نامند و تاکنون به این نام خوانده می‌شود.

²⁷Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in their forefront, to go again to Jerusalem with joy; for Yahweh had made them to rejoice over their enemies.

²⁷ یهوشافاط سپاه خود را با پیروزی به اورشلیم بازگرداند، زیرا خداوند دشمنان ایشان را شکست داده بود.

²⁸They came to Jerusalem with stringed instruments and harps and trumpets to the house of Yahweh.

²⁸ هنگامی‌که به شهر رسیدند با صدای چنگ و بربط و شیپور وارد معبد بزرگ شدند.

²⁹The fear of God was on all the kingdoms of the countries, when they heard that Yahweh fought against the enemies of Israel.

²⁹ هر قومی که شنید چگونه خداوند دشمنان اسرائیل را شکست داده است، ترسان شد.

³⁰So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet; for his God gave him rest all around.

³⁰ پس یهوشافاط در صلح حکومت کرد، زیرا خداوند از هر سو به او ایمنی بخشید.

³¹Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

³¹ یهوشافاط در سن سی و پنج سالگی پادشاه شد و مدّت بیست و پنج سال در اورشلیم حکومت کرد. مادرش عزوبه، دختر شلحی بود.

³²He walked in the way of Asa his father, and didn’t turn aside from it, doing that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh.

³² او نیز مانند پدرش آسا، آنچه را که از نظر خداوند نیک بود، انجام داد.

³³However the high places were not taken away; neither as yet had the people set their hearts to the God of their fathers.

³³ امّا پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها را نابود نکرد و مردم با تمام دل، خداوند، خدای نیاکان خود را پرستش نکردند.

³⁴Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the history of Jehu the son of Hanani, which is inserted in the book of the kings of Israel.

³⁴ بقیّهٔ رویدادهای دوران سلطنت یهوشافاط، از آغاز تا به آخر را، ییهوی پسر حنانی گزارش داده است که در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان اسرائیل نوشته شده‌اند.

³⁵After this Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel. The same did very wickedly:

³⁵ بعدها یهوشافاط، پادشاه یهودا با اخزیا، پادشاه اسرائیل که بسیار شرور بود، پیمان دوستی بست.

³⁶and he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish; and they made the ships in Ezion Geber.

³⁶ آنها با هم موافقت کردند و در بندر عصیون‌جابر کشتی‌های اقیانوس‌پیما ساختند. امّا الیعزر، پسر دوداواهوی مرشاتی به یهوشافاط اخطار داد: «چون تو با اخزیا متّحد شده‌ای، خداوند آنچه را که تو ساخته‌ای، نابود خواهد کرد.» و کشتی‌ها درهم شکستند و نتوانستند سفر کنند.

³⁷Then Eliezer the son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, Yahweh has destroyed your works.” The ships were broken, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

³⁷ امّا الیعزر، پسر دوداواهوی مرشاتی به یهوشافاط اخطار داد: «چون تو با اخزیا متّحد شده‌ای، خداوند آنچه را که تو ساخته‌ای، نابود خواهد کرد.» و کشتی‌ها درهم شکستند و نتوانستند سفر کنند.
