¹Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David: and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

¹ یهوشافاط درگذشت و او را در آرامگاه سلطنتی در شهر داوود به خاک سپردند و پسرش، یهورام به جای او پادشاه شد.

²He had brothers, the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, and Jehiel, and Zechariah, and Azariah, and Michael, and Shephatiah; all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

² یهورام پسر یهوشافاط شش برادر به نامهای: عزریا، یحیئیل، زکریا، عزریاهو، میکائیل و شفطیا داشت.

³Their father gave them great gifts, of silver, and of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah: but the kingdom gave he to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

³ پدرشان مقدار زیادی طلا، نقره و اموال با ارزش دیگری به ایشان بخشید، و هر کدام را حاکم یکی از شهرهای مستحکم یهودا کرد. امّا چون یهورام پسر اول او بود، وی را جانشین خود کرد

⁴Now when Jehoram was risen up over the kingdom of his father, and had strengthened himself, he killed all his brothers with the sword, and various also of the princes of Israel.

⁴ هنگامی‌که یهورام بر تخت سلطنت پدرش نشست و حکومت او استوار شد، همهٔ برادران خود و گروهی از رهبران اسرائیل را با شمشیر کشت.

⁵Jehoram was thirty-two years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

⁵ یهورام سی و دو ساله بود که پادشاه شد و مدّت هشت سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد.

⁶He walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Ahab; for he had the daughter of Ahab as wife: and he did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh.

⁶ او مانند پادشاهان اسرائیل، همان‌طور که خاندان اخاب عمل کرده بودند رفتار کرد، زیرا دختر اخاب همسر او بود. او آنچه را که در نظر خداوند پلید بود، انجام داد.

⁷However Yahweh would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a lamp to him and to his children always.

⁷ با این وجود، خداوند خاندان داوود را نابود نکرد، زیرا با او پیمان بسته بود و وعده داده بود که خاندان او برای همیشه حکومت کنند.

⁸In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves.

⁸ در دوران سلطنت یهورام، اَدوم علیه یهودا شورش کرد و پادشاهی مستقلی شد.

⁹Then Jehoram passed over with his captains, and all his chariots with him: and he rose up by night, and struck the Edomites who surrounded him, along with the captains of the chariots.

⁹ پس یهورام و افسران او با ارّابه‌ها به اَدوم رفتند. در آنجا ارتش اَدوم آنها را محاصره کرد. امّا در شب موفّق شدند که خود را آزاد کنند و بگریزند.

¹⁰So Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah to this day: then Libnah revolted at the same time from under his hand, because he had forsaken Yahweh, the God of his fathers.

¹⁰ اَدوم از آن زمان تا به حال از یهودا مستقل شده است. در همان زمان شهر لبنه نیز شورش کرد، زیرا یهورام خداوند، خدای نیاکان خود را رها کرده بود.

¹¹Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah, and made the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the prostitute, and led Judah astray.

¹¹ او حتّی پرستشگاههایی در بالای تپّه‌های یهودا ساخت و مردم یهودا و اورشلیم را به گناه علیه خداوند کشاند.

¹²A letter came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of David your father, ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah,

¹² ایلیای نبی نامه‌ای برای یهورام فرستاد و در آن چنین نوشته بود: «خداوند، خدای جدّ تو داوود، تو را محکوم می‌کند، زیرا تو الگوی پدرت، یهوشافاط پادشاه یا پدر بزرگ خود آسای پادشاه را دنبال نکردی،

¹³but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to play the prostitute, like the house of Ahab did, and also have slain your brothers of your father’s house, who were better than yourself:

¹³ در عوض تو از الگوی پادشاهان اسرائیل پیروی کردی و باعث شدی که مردم یهودا و اورشلیم نسبت به خدا وفادار نباشند، همان‌طور که اخاب و جانشینان او مردم اسرائیل را به بی‌وفایی کشیدند. تو حتّی برادران خود را که از تو بهتر بودند کشتی،

¹⁴behold, Yahweh will strike with a great plague your people, and your children, and your wives, and all your substance;

¹⁴ در نتیجه، خداوند به سختی قوم تو، فرزندان تو و همسران تو را مجازات خواهد کرد و اموال تو را نابود خواهد ساخت.

¹⁵and you shall have great sickness by disease of your bowels, until your bowels fall out by reason of the sickness, day by day.’”

¹⁵ خود تو از بیماری دردناک روده رنج خواهی برد که هر روز بدتر خواهد شد.»

¹⁶Yahweh stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians who are beside the Ethiopians:

¹⁶ گروهی از فلسطینیان و عربها در نزدیکی حبشیان که در کنار دریا بودند، زندگی می‌کردند. خداوند ایشان را برانگیخت تا به جنگ یهورام بروند. ایشان یهودا را اشغال کردند، کاخ سلطنتی را چپاول نمودند و همهٔ زنان و پسران پادشاه، به جز پسر کوچکش، یهوآخاز را به اسارت بردند.

¹⁷and they came up against Judah, and broke into it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house, and his sons also, and his wives; so that there was never a son left him, except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons.

¹⁷ پس از همهٔ این رویدادها، خداوند پادشاه را به بیماری علاج‌ناپذیر روده مبتلا کرد.

¹⁸After all this Yahweh struck him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

¹⁸ به مدّت دو سال بیماری او بدتر و بدتر شد تا بالاخره با درد و رنج بسیار درگذشت. ملّت او برخلاف چنانکه برای نیاکان او کرده بودند به احترامش آتش نیافروختند. یهورام در سن سی و دو سالگی پادشاه شد و در اورشلیم به مدّت هشت سال پادشاهی کرد. کسی از مرگ او متأسف نشد. او را در اورشلیم به خاک سپردند ولی نه در آرامگاه سلطنتی.

¹⁹It happened, in process of time, at the end of two years, that his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, and he died of severe diseases. His people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers.

¹⁹ یهورام در سن سی و دو سالگی پادشاه شد و در اورشلیم به مدّت هشت سال پادشاهی کرد. کسی از مرگ او متأسف نشد. او را در اورشلیم به خاک سپردند ولی نه در آرامگاه سلطنتی.

²⁰Thirty-two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years: and he departed without being desired; and they buried him in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
