¹The inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his place; for the band of men who came with the Arabians to the camp had slain all the eldest. So Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah reigned.

¹ مردم اورشلیم، اخزیا کوچکترین پسر او را به پادشاهی برگزیدند، زیرا ارتشی که همراه عربها به یهودا آمدند، همهٔ برادران بزرگتر را کشته بودند. بنابراین اخزیا، پسر کوچک یهورام به پادشاهی رسید.

²Forty-two years old was Ahaziah when he began to reign; and he reigned one year in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri.

² او بیست و دو ساله بود که بر تخت سلطنت نشست و مدّت یک سال در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد. مادرش عتلیا نوه عُمری بود.

³He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab; for his mother was his counselor to do wickedly.

³ او نیز در راه خاندان اخاب گام برداشت، زیرا مادرش در انجام کارهای پلید او را تشویق می‌کرد.

⁴He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, as did the house of Ahab; for they were his counselors after the death of his father, to his destruction.

⁴ او مانند خاندان اخاب، آنچه را در نظر خداوند پلید بود، انجام داد. زیرا پس از مرگ پدرش، ایشان مشاوران او بودند و وی را به نابودی کشاندند.

⁵He walked also after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead: and the Syrians wounded Joram.

⁵ او با پیروی از مشورت ایشان، به یورام، پسر اخاب، پادشاه اسرائیل، پیوست و به جنگ حزائیل، پادشاه سوریه به راموت جلعاد رفت. در آنجا یورام به دست سربازان سوری زخمی ‌شد.

⁶He returned to be healed in Jezreel of the wounds which they had given him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick.

⁶ او برای بهبود زخمهایش به شهر یزرعیل بازگشت و اخزیا، برای دیدنش به آنجا رفت.

⁷Now the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went to Joram: for when he had come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Yahweh had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab.

⁷ خداوند از این دیدار اخزیا از یورام برای سقوط اخزیا استفاده کرد. هنگامی‌که اخزیا با یورام بود، ییهو، پسر نمشی که از طرف خدا برگزیده شده بود تا خاندان اخاب را براندازد، به دیدار ایشان رفت.

⁸It happened, when Jehu was executing judgment on the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brothers of Ahaziah, ministering to Ahaziah, and killed them.

⁸ هنگامی‌که ییهو حکم خدا را در مورد خاندان اخزیا اجرا می‌کرد، به گروهی که متشکّل از رهبران یهودا و برادرزاده‌های اخزیا بودند، برخورد و همهٔ آنها را کشت.

⁹He sought Ahaziah, and they caught him (now he was hiding in Samaria), and they brought him to Jehu, and killed him; and they buried him, for they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Yahweh with all his heart.” The house of Ahaziah had no power to hold the kingdom.

⁹ جستجو برای یافتن اخزیا آغاز شد و او را درحالی‌که در سامره پنهان شده بود، پیدا کردند. ایشان او را نزد ییهو بردند و وی اخزیا را کشت. امّا به احترام پدربزرگش یهوشافاط پادشاه که هرآنچه در توان داشت برای خدمت خداوند به کار برده بود، جسد اخزیا را دفن کردند. از خاندان اخزیا کسی برجا نماند تا سلطنت کند.

¹⁰Now when Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal seed of the house of Judah.

¹⁰ هنگامی‌که عتلیا مادر اخزیا دید که پسرش کشته شده است دستور داد تا تمام اعضای خاندان سلطنتی یهودا را نابود کند.

¹¹But Jehoshabeath, the daughter of the king, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king’s sons who were slain, and put him and his nurse in the bedroom. So Jehoshabeath, the daughter of king Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest (for she was the sister of Ahaziah), hid him from Athaliah, so that she didn’t kill him.

¹¹ یَهُوشَبَع، دختر یهورام پادشاه خواهر ناتنی اخزیا که با کاهنی به نام یهویاداع ازدواج کرده بود، پنهانی یکی از پسران اخزیا به نام یوآش را از جمع شاهزادگانی که قرار بود کشته شوند نجات داد و با پرستاری در یکی از اتاق خوابهای معبد بزرگ پنهان کرد و با این کار از کشته شدن یوآش به دست عتلیا جلوگیری کرد. در مدّت شش سالی که یوآش در معبد بزرگ خداوند پنهان ماند عتلیا زمام امور سلطنت را در دست داشت.
