¹In the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, and Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, and Azariah the son of Obed, and Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him.

¹ پس از شش سال صبر کردن، یهویاداع کاهن تصمیم گرفت زمان اقدام فرا رسیده است. او با پنج نفر از فرماندهان ارتش همدست شد که عبارت بودند از: عزریا پسر یهورام، اسماعیل پسر یهوحانان، عزریا پسر عوبید، معیسا پسر عدایا و الیشافاط پسر زکری.

²They went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the heads of fathers’ households of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

² ایشان به همهٔ شهرهای یهودا سفر کردند و لاویان و رهبران قوم را با خود به اورشلیم آوردند.

³All the assembly made a covenant with the king in God’s house. He said to them, “Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as Yahweh has spoken concerning the sons of David.

³ ایشان همه در معبد بزرگ گرد آمدند و با یوآش پسر پادشاه پیمان بستند. یهویاداع به ایشان گفت: «او پسر پادشاه فقید است اکنون همان‌طور که خداوند به خاندان داوود وعده داده است که یکی از بازماندگان او پادشاه گردد، او باید پادشاه شود.

⁴This is the thing that you shall do. A third part of you, who come in on the Sabbath, of the priests and of the Levites, shall be porters of the thresholds.

⁴ ما چنین خواهیم کرد، زمانی که لاویان در روز سبت برای انجام وظیفه می‌آیند، یک سوم ایشان از دروازه‌های معبد بزرگ حفاظت خواهند کرد.

⁵A third part shall be at the king’s house; and a third part at the gate of the foundation. All the people shall be in the courts of Yahweh’s house.

⁵ یک سوم دیگر کاخ پادشاهی را مواظبت خواهند کرد و بقیّه در کنار پایه‌های دروازه مستقر خواهند شد. همهٔ مردم در حیاط معبد بزرگ جمع خواهند شد.

⁶But let no one come into the house of Yahweh, except the priests, and those who minister of the Levites. They shall come in, for they are holy, but all the people shall follow Yahweh’s instructions.

⁶ هیچ‌کس به جز کاهنان و لاویانی که در معبد بزرگ خدمت می‌کنند، نباید وارد شوند. ایشان چون تقدیس شده‌اند می‌توانند وارد شوند. امّا بقیّهٔ مردم باید از فرمان خداوند پیروی کنند و بیرون بمانند.

⁷The Levites shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand. Whoever comes into the house, let him be slain. Be with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out.”

⁷ لاویان با شمشیرهای برهنه در دست از پادشاه حفاظت کنند و هر کجا او می‌رود، همراهش باشند، هرکس که سعی کند، وارد معبد بزرگ شود، باید کشته شود.»

⁸So the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded: and they took every man his men, those who were to come in on the Sabbath; with those who were to go out on the Sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest didn’t dismiss the shift.

⁸ لاویان و مردم یهودا دستورهای یهویاداع را انجام دادند. فرماندهان، خادمینی را که در روز سبت خدمتشان تمام شده بود، مرّخص نکردند تا همهٔ گروهی که به خدمت می‌آمدند و هم گروهی که مرّخص می‌شدند را در اختیار داشته باشند.

⁹Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds the spears, and bucklers, and shields, that had been king David’s, which were in God’s house.

⁹ یهویاداع نیزه‌ها و سپرهایی را که به داوود پادشاه تعلّق داشت و در معبد بزرگ نگهداری می‌شد به فرماندهان داد.

¹⁰He set all the people, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, along by the altar and the house, around the king.

¹⁰ او همهٔ مردان مسلّح به شمشیر را از شمال تا جنوب و تمام اطراف حیاط جلوی معبد بزرگ به محافظت پادشاه گمارد.

¹¹Then they brought out the king’s son, and put the crown on him, and gave him the testimony, and made him king: and Jehoiada and his sons anointed him; and they said, “Long live the king!”

¹¹ آنگاه یهویاداع شاهزاده را بیرون آورد و او را تاجگذاری کردند و کتاب قوانین پادشاهی را به او دادند و او را پادشاه اعلام کردند. سپس یهویاداع و پسرانش او را مسح کردند و فریاد زدند: «جاوید پادشاه!»

¹²When Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the house of Yahweh:

¹² وقتی عتلیا صدای دویدن و شادمانی مردم را برای پادشاه شنید به سوی ایشان که در معبد بزرگ گرد هم آمده بودند، رفت.

¹³and she looked, and, behold, the king stood by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and blew trumpets; the singers also played musical instruments, and led the singing of praise. Then Athaliah tore her clothes, and said, “Treason! treason!”

¹³ هنگامی‌که نگاه کرد، دید که پادشاه جلوی دروازه در کنار ستونش ایستاده و فرماندهان و شیپورچی‌ها نزد وی ایستاده‌اند و همهٔ مردم سرزمین شادی می‌کنند و شیپورها را به صدا در آورده‌اند و سرایندگان با سازهای خود جشن را رهبری می‌کنند، جامهٔ خود را درید و فریاد زد: «خیانت! خیانت!»

¹⁴Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, “Bring her out between the ranks; and whoever follows her, let him be slain with the sword.” For the priest said, “Don’t kill her in the Yahweh’s house.”

¹⁴ آنگاه یهویاداع کاهن به رهبران ارتش گفت: «او را در معبد بزرگ نکشید، بلکه از میان صفوف بیرون بیاورید و با هرکسی از او پیروی می‌کرد با شمشیر بکشید.»

¹⁵So they made way for her. She went to the entrance of the horse gate to the king’s house; and they killed her there.

¹⁵ پس ایشان او را دستگیر کردند و به بیرون کاخ بردند و در مقابل دروازهٔ اسبها او را کشتند.

¹⁶Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, and all the people, and the king, that they should be Yahweh’s people.

¹⁶ یهویاداع بین خود و همهٔ مردم و پادشاه پیمان بست که قوم خداوند باشند.

¹⁷All the people went to the house of Baal, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

¹⁷ سپس همگی به پرستشگاه بعل رفتند و آن را ویران کردند. قربانگاه و بت او را شکستند و متان، کاهن بعل را در برابر قربانگاه به قتل رساندند.

¹⁸Jehoiada appointed the officers of the house of Yahweh under the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the house of Yahweh, to offer the burnt offerings of Yahweh, as it is written in the law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, according to the order of David.

¹⁸ یهویاداع نگهداری از معبد بزرگ را طبق سازماندهی داوود به کاهنان لاوی داد، همان‌گونه که داوود ایشان را سازماندهی کرده بود تا مسئول معبد بزرگ باشند تا چنانچه در قوانین موسی نوشته شده بود و برای خداوند قربانی سوختنی تقدیم کنند و مطابق فرمان داوود این کار را با شادمانی و سرودن انجام دهند.

¹⁹He set the porters at the gates of the house of Yahweh, that no one who was unclean in anything should enter in.

¹⁹ او نگهبان‌هایی در دروازه‌های معبد بزرگ گماشت تا هرکس که پاک نباشد، وارد نشود.

²⁰He took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought down the king from the house of Yahweh: and they came through the upper gate to the king’s house, and set the king on the throne of the kingdom.

²⁰ سپس او با فرماندهان ارتش و بزرگان، فرمانداران قوم و تمام قوم سرزمین، پادشاه را از معبد بزرگ از دروازهٔ بالایی به کاخ سلطنتی آوردند و او را بر تخت پادشاهی نشاندند. همگی سرشار از خوشی بودند و شهر بعد از کشته شدن عتلیا آرام شد.

²¹So all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. Athaliah they had slain with the sword.
