¹Joash was seven years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zibiah, of Beersheba.

¹ یوآش هفت ساله بود که پادشاه شد و مدّت چهل سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد. نام مادرش ظبیه و از اهالی بئرشبع بود.

²Joash did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh all the days of Jehoiada the priest.

² یوآش در سراسر دوران عمر یهویاداع کاهن، آنچه را در نظر خداوند درست بود انجام داد.

³Jehoiada took for him two wives; and he became the father of sons and daughters.

³ یهویاداع برای او دو زن گرفت که از آنها دارای چند پسر و دختر شد.

⁴It happened after this, that Joash intended to restore the house of Yahweh.

⁴ پس از مدّتی یوآش تصمیم گرفت که معبد بزرگ را بازسازی کند.

⁵He gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money to repair the house of your God from all Israel from year to year. See that you expedite this matter.” However the Levites didn’t do it right away.

⁵ او کاهنان و لاویان را فراخواند و به ایشان گفت: «هرچه زودتر به شهرهای یهودا بروید و از همهٔ مردم اسرائیل پول جمع کنید تا خانهٔ خدای خود را هر سال تعمیر کنید.» امّا لاویان در این کار شتاب نکردند.

⁶The king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why haven’t you required of the Levites to bring in the tax of Moses the servant of Yahweh, and of the assembly of Israel, out of Judah and out of Jerusalem, for the tent of the testimony?”

⁶ پس پادشاه یهویاداع رهبر کاهنان را فراخواند و به او گفت: «چرا لاویان را برای گردآوری مالیاتی که موسی، خادم خداوند برای قوم اسرائیل و برای خیمهٔ مقدّس معیّن کرده، به یهودا و اورشلیم روانه نساخته‌ای؟»

⁷For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up God’s house; and they also gave all the dedicated things of the house of Yahweh to the Baals.

⁷ (زیرا پیروان عتلیا، آن زن پلید به معبد بزرگ آسیب رسانده بودند و حتّی وسایلی را که به خداوند هدیه داده شده بود، برای استفادهٔ بت بعل برده‌ بودند.)

⁸So the king commanded, and they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the house of Yahweh.

⁸ پس پادشاه فرمان داد تا صندوقی بسازند و در بیرون دروازهٔ معبد بزرگ بگذارند.

⁹They made a proclamation through Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in for Yahweh the tax that Moses the servant of God laid on Israel in the wilderness.

⁹ آنگاه در سرتاسر یهودا و اورشلیم اعلام شد تا مالیاتی را که موسی، خادم خدا، برای قوم اسرائیل در بیابان تعیین کرده بود، بیاورند.

¹⁰All the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

¹⁰ همهٔ رهبران و مردم با شادمانی مالیاتهای خود را آوردند و در صندوق ریختند تا صندوق پر شد.

¹¹It was so, that whenever the chest was brought to the king’s officers by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the chief priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to its place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance.

¹¹ هنگامی‌که لاویان می‌دیدند که پول فراوانی در صندوق است آن را نزد مشاور پادشاه و مأموران کاهن اعظم می‌آوردند و آن را خالی می‌کردند و به جای خود باز می‌گرداندند. این کار روزهای پی‌درپی انجام شد و پول فراوانی گرد آوردند.

¹²The king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the house of Yahweh; and they hired masons and carpenters to restore the house of Yahweh, and also such as worked iron and brass to repair the house of Yahweh.

¹² پادشاه و یهویاداع پول را به مسئولان بازسازی معبد بزرگ دادند و ایشان معماران و نجّاران، آهنگران و کارگرانی را که با برنز کار می‌کردند، استخدام کردند تا معبد بزرگ را بازسازی کنند.

¹³So the workmen worked, and the work of repairing went forward in their hands, and they set up God’s house in its state, and strengthened it.

¹³ تمام کارگران با جدّیت کار کردند و معبد بزرگ را به حالت اولیهٔ آن بازسازی نمودند و آن را مستحکم ساختند.

¹⁴When they had made an end, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, of which were made vessels for the house of Yahweh, even vessels with which to minister and to offer, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. They offered burnt offerings in the house of Yahweh continually all the days of Jehoiada.

¹⁴ وقتی‌که کار ترمیم تمام شد، بقیّهٔ پول را برای پادشاه و یهویاداع بردند و از آن پول ظروف طلا و نقره، از قبیل قاشق، کاسه و وسایلی که جهت قربانی سوختنی به کار می‌رفتند، برای معبد بزرگ ساختند؛ تا زمانی که یهویاداع زنده بود، همیشه قربانی سوختنی در معبد بزرگ تقدیم می‌شد.

¹⁵But Jehoiada grew old and was full of days, and he died; one hundred thirty years old was he when he died.

¹⁵ یهویاداع در کمال پیری در سن صد و سی سالگی در گذشت،

¹⁶They buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, and toward God and his house.

¹⁶ و او را در شهر داوود در گورستان پادشاهان به خاک سپردند چون او برای اسرائیل و خدا و معبد بزرگ نیکویی کرده بود.

¹⁷Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king listened to them.

¹⁷ امّا هنگامی‌که یهویاداع در گذشت، رهبران یهودا نزد پادشاه آمدند و او را تحریک کردند و او به سخنان ایشان گوش کرد.

¹⁸They forsook the house of Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and served the Asherim and the idols: and wrath came on Judah and Jerusalem for this their guiltiness.

¹⁸ پس مردم معبد بزرگ خداوند، خدای اجداد خود را ترک نمودند و به پرستش الههٔ اشره و بُتها پرداختند. به‌خاطر این گناه، خشم خداوند بر یهودا و اورشلیم فرود آمد.

¹⁹Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to Yahweh; and they testified against them: but they would not give ear.

¹⁹ امّا باز هم خداوند انبیا را فرستاد تا ایشان را نصیحت کنند و به سوی او بازگردانند، ولی ایشان گوش ندادند.

²⁰The Spirit of God came on Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest; and he stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God, ‘Why do you disobey the commandments of Yahweh, so that you can’t prosper? Because you have forsaken Yahweh, he has also forsaken you.’”

²⁰ آنگاه روح خدا زکریا پسر یهویاداع را فراگرفت. او بر بلندی، مقابل مردم ایستاد و به ایشان گفت: «خداوند چنین می‌فرماید: چرا از فرامین خداوند سرپیچی می‌کنید؟ به این سبب کامیاب نخواهید شد، چون شما خداوند را ترک کرده‌اید او نیز شما را رها ساخته است.»

²¹They conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the commandment of the king in the court of the house of Yahweh.

²¹ امّا ایشان علیه او توطئه کردند و به دستور پادشاه او را در حیاط معبد بزرگ سنگسار کردند.

²²Thus Joash the king didn’t remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. When he died, he said, “May Yahweh look at it, and repay it.”

²² یوآش پادشاه مهربانی‌های یهویاداع، پدر زکریا را به یاد نیاورد، در عوض پسر او را کشت. هنگامی‌که زکریا جان می‌داد، گفت: «باشد تا خداوند این را ببیند و از تو انتقام بگیرد!»

²³It happened at the end of the year, that the army of the Syrians came up against him: and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all their spoil to the king of Damascus.

²³ در بهار آن سال ارتش سوریه به جنگ با یوآش برخاست و به یهودا و اورشلیم حمله کرد و تمام رهبران ایشان را کشتند و اموال زیادی را به تاراج بردند و برای پادشاهاشان به دمشق فرستادند.

²⁴For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Yahweh delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Yahweh, the God of their fathers. So they executed judgment on Joash.

²⁴ با وجودی که ارتش سوریه با افراد کمی آمده بودند، خداوند ارتش بسیار بزرگی را به دست ایشان داد، زیرا ایشان خداوند، خدای نیاکان خود را ترک کرده بودند، به این ترتیب یوآش پادشاه مجازات شد.

²⁵When they were departed for him (for they left him very sick), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and killed him on his bed, and he died; and they buried him in the city of David, but they didn’t bury him in the tombs of the kings.

²⁵ یوآش بشدّت زخمی شده بود و هنگامی‌که ارتش دشمن عقب‌نشینی کرد، دو نفر از خدمتگذاران وی دسیسه کردند و به‌خاطر خون پسر یهویاداع کاهن، او را در بسترش کشتند. پس او مرد و او را در شهر داوود به خاک سپردند؛ ولی او را در آرامگاه پادشاهان دفن نکردند.

²⁶These are those who conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath the Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith the Moabitess.

²⁶ کسانی‌که علیه او توطئه کردند، عبارت بودند از: زاباد، پسر شمعه عمونی و یهوزاباد، پسر شمریت موآبی بودند. کارهای پسران او و پیشگویی‌هایی که دربارهٔ او و بازسازی معبد بزرگ، همه در کتاب تفسیر تواریخ پادشاهان نوشته شده‌اند و امصیا، جانشین پدرش یوآش شد.

²⁷Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid on him, and the rebuilding of God’s house, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

²⁷ کارهای پسران او و پیشگویی‌هایی که دربارهٔ او و بازسازی معبد بزرگ، همه در کتاب تفسیر تواریخ پادشاهان نوشته شده‌اند و امصیا، جانشین پدرش یوآش شد.
