¹Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jehoaddan, of Jerusalem.

¹ امصیا در سن بیست و پنج سالگی به سلطنت رسید و مدّت بیست و نه سال در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد. نام مادرش یهوعدان و از اهالی اورشلیم بود.

²He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, but not with a perfect heart.

² او آنچه را از نظر خداوند درست بود، انجام داد امّا نه از صمیم قلب.

³Now it happened, when the kingdom was established to him, that he killed his servants who had killed the king his father.

³ بعد از اینکه حکومت او استوار گشت بدون درنگ خدمتگذارانی که پدرش را کشته بودند، اعدام کرد.

⁴But he didn’t put their children to death, but did according to that which is written in the law in the book of Moses, as Yahweh commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not die for the children, neither shall the children die for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.”

⁴ امّا او فرزندان ایشان را نکشت، بلکه از قوانینی که خداوند به موسی داده بود پیروی کرد که می‌گوید: «والدین نباید به‌خاطر جنایت فرزندان خود کشته شوند و همچنین فرزندان نباید به‌خاطر جنایت والدین خود کشته شوند، بلکه هرکسی باید برای جنایتی که مرتکب شده کشته شود.»

⁵Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and ordered them according to their fathers’ houses, under captains of thousands and captains of hundreds, even all Judah and Benjamin: and he numbered them from twenty years old and upward, and found them three hundred thousand chosen men, able to go forth to war, who could handle spear and shield.

⁵ امصیای پادشاه تمام مردان طایفه‌های یهودا و بنیامین را سازماندهی کرد و در گردانهای ارتش گماشت و برطبق طایفه‌ها، فرماندهانی برای گروههای صد نفری و هزار نفری برگزید، که شامل مردان بیست سال به بالا بود و تعدادشان سیصد هزار نفر بود. ایشان مردانی بارز و آماده نبرد بودند و در استفاده از نیزه و سپر مهارت داشتند.

⁶He hired also one hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver.

⁶ علاوه براین او صد هزار مزدور از اسرائیل به بهایی معادل سه هزار و چهارصد کیلوگرم نقره اجیر کرد.

⁷A man of God came to him, saying, “O king, don’t let the army of Israel go with you; for Yahweh is not with Israel, with all the children of Ephraim.

⁷ امّا نبی‌ای نزد پادشاه رفت و به وی گفت: «این مزدوران اسرائیلی را همراه مبر، زیرا خداوند با این مردان که از قسمت شمالی کشور هستند، نیست.

⁸But if you will go, take action, be strong for the battle. God will overthrow you before the enemy; for God has power to help, and to overthrow.”

⁸ تو ممکن است که فکر کنی که این مردان در نبرد تو را نیرومندتر خواهند کرد، امّا این خداست که قدرت دارد به انسان پیروزی یا شکست دهد. اوست که دشمنان تو را بر تو غالب خواهد کرد.»

⁹Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” The man of God answered, “Yahweh is able to give you much more than this.”

⁹ امصیا از نبی پرسید «پس در مورد آن نقره‌ای که در ازای ایشان پرداخته‌ام چه کنم؟» نبی پاسخ داد: «خداوند می‌تواند بیشتر از آن به تو بدهد.»

¹⁰Then Amaziah separated them, the army that had come to him out of Ephraim, to go home again: therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in fierce anger.

¹⁰ پس امصیا مزدوران اسرائیلی را روانه خانه‌های خود کرد. این باعث شد که خشم آنها نسبت به یهودا برانگیخته شود و ایشان بسیار خشمگین به خانه‌های خود بازگشتند.

¹¹Amaziah took courage, and led forth his people, and went to the Valley of Salt, and struck ten thousand of the children of Seir.

¹¹ امصیا با شجاعت ارتش خود را به درّهٔ نمک رهبری کرد و در آنجا ده هزار سرباز اَدومی را کشتند،

¹²The children of Judah carry away ten thousand alive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.

¹² و ده هزار نفر را هم اسیر گرفتند، ایشان اسیران را به بالای پرتگاهی بردند و از آنجا به پایین افکندند و ایشان در روی صخره‌های پایین جان سپردند.

¹³But the men of the army whom Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell on the cities of Judah, from Samaria even to Beth Horon, and struck of them three thousand, and took much spoil.

¹³ در این ضمن مزدوران اسرائیلی که امصیا به ایشان اجازه نداده بود همراه او به جنگ بروند، به شهرهای یهودا، از سامره تا بیت حورون، حمله کردند و سه هزار نفر را کشتند و مقدار زیادی اموال، به تاراج بردند.

¹⁴Now it happened, after that Amaziah had come from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir, and set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense to them.

¹⁴ هنگامی‌که امصیا پس از شکست اَدومی‌ها بازگشت، بُتهای ایشان را با خود آورد و آنها را برپا کرد و ستایش نمود و برای آنها قربانی سوزاندنی گذرانید.

¹⁵Therefore the anger of Yahweh was kindled against Amaziah, and he sent to him a prophet, who said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which have not delivered their own people out of your hand?”

¹⁵ خداوند از امصیا خشمگین شد و نبی‌ای نزد او فرستاد. نبی از امصیا پرسید: «چرا خدایان بیگانگانی را که حتّی نتوانستند مردم خود را از دست تو رهایی دهند، پرستش کردی؟»

¹⁶It happened, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, “Have we made you one of the king’s counselors? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” Then the prophet stopped, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.”

¹⁶ درحالی‌که نبی سخن می‌گفت، پادشاه به او گفت: «آیا ما تو را مشاور سلطنتی کرده‌ایم؟ ساکت باش. آیا می‌خواهی کشته شوی؟» پس نبی ساکت شد، امّا گفت: «من می‌دانم که خداوند قصد دارد تو را نابود کند، زیرا تو چنین کرده‌ای و به پند من گوش نداد‌ه‌ای.»

¹⁷Then Amaziah king of Judah consulted his advisers, and sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.”

¹⁷ امصیای پادشاه و مشاوران او علیه اسرائیل نقشه کشیدند. او برای یهوآش، پادشاه اسرائیل پسر یهوآخاز، نوه ییهو، پیام فرستاد و او را به نبرد خواند.

¹⁸Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son as his wife; then a wild animal that was in Lebanon passed by, and trampled down the thistle.

¹⁸ یهوآش پادشاه اسرائیل برای امصیا، پادشاه یهودا چنین پاسخ فرستاد: «روزگاری بوته خاری در لبنان برای درخت سرو چنین پیام فرستاد: دختر خود را به همسری پسر من درآور. ولی حیوانی وحشی که از آنجا می‌گذشت بوتهٔ خار را لگد مال کرد.

¹⁹You say to yourself that you have struck Edom; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Now stay at home. Why should you meddle with trouble, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?’”

¹⁹ اکنون امصیا تو از شکست اَدومی‌ها مغرور شده‌ای، امّا من به تو توصیه می‌کنم که در سرزمین خود بمانی، چرا دنبال درد سر می‌گردی تا موجب مصیبت برای تو و مردم تو شود؟»

²⁰But Amaziah would not listen; for it was of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they had sought after the gods of Edom.

²⁰ امّا امصیا گوش فرا نداد. این ارادهٔ خدا بود تا او شکست بخورد، چون او بُتهای اَدومی‌ها را پرستش کرده بود.

²¹So Joash king of Israel went up; and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

²¹ پس یهوآش، پادشاه اسرائیل به جنگ امصیا، پادشاه یهودا رفت. ایشان در بیت شمس، در سرزمین یهودا با هم روبه‌رو شدند.

²²Judah was defeated by Israel; and they fled every man to his tent.

²² ارتش یهودا شکست خورد و سربازان به خانه‌های خود گریختند.

²³Joash king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth Shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits.

²³ یوآش، پادشاه اسرائیل امصیا را دستگیر کرد و او را به اورشلیم برد. آنجا او دیوار شهر اورشلیم را از دروازهٔ افرایم تا دروازهٔ زاویه، به طول صد و هشتاد متر ویران کرد.

²⁴He took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels that were found in God’s house with Obed-Edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria.

²⁴ او تمام طلا و نقره و لوازم معبد بزرگ را که عوبید اَدوم از آنها نگهداری می‌کرد و همچنین موجودی خزانهٔ کاخ پادشاه را همراه با عدّه‌ای گروگان با خود به سامره برد.

²⁵Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

²⁵ امصیا، پسر یهوآش پادشاه یهودا، بعد از وفات یهوآش، پسر یهوآخاز پادشاه اسرائیل، پانزده سال دیگر زندگی کرد.

²⁶Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, aren’t they written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel?

²⁶ بقیّهٔ وقایع دوران سلطنت امصیا، از آغاز تا پایان، در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان یهودا و اسرائیل نوشته شده‌اند.

²⁷Now from the time that Amaziah turned away from following Yahweh, they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem. He fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish, and killed him there.

²⁷ زمانی که امصیا از پیروی خداوند دست کشید، مردم مخالف او شدند و سرانجام به ضد او توطئه چیدند و او به شهر لاکیش گریخت، امّا آنها به دنبال او به لاکیش رفتند و او را در آنجا کشتند. جسد او را با اسبی به اورشلیم آوردند و در شهر داوود در آرامگاه سلطنتی به خاک سپردند.

²⁸They brought him on horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

²⁸ جسد او را با اسبی به اورشلیم آوردند و در شهر داوود در آرامگاه سلطنتی به خاک سپردند.
