¹In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea the son of Elah began to reign in Samaria over Israel for nine years.

¹ در سال دوازدهم سلطنت آحاز پادشاه یهودا، هوشع پسر ایلا در سامره بر تخت سلطنت اسرائیل نشست و مدّت نُه سال پادشاهی کرد.

²He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, yet not as the kings of Israel who were before him.

² او آنچه را در نظر خداوند پلید بود، انجام داد. امّا نه مانند پادشاهان اسرائیل که قبل از او بودند.

³Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute.

³ شلمناسر، امپراتور آشور به جنگ او آمد. هوشع به او تسلیم شد و هر سال به او باج می‌داد.

⁴The king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison.

⁴ امّا یک سال هوشع قاصدانی نزد «سوا» فرعون فرستاد و از او کمک خواست و خراج سالانه به آشور نپرداخت. هنگامی‌که شلمناسر از این آگاه شد، هوشع را دستگیر کرد و به زندان انداخت.

⁵Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years.

⁵ آنگاه شلمناسر زمین اسرائیل را اشغال نموده اسرائیل و سامره را محاصره کرد، در سال سوم محاصره

⁶In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes.

⁶ که نهمین سال سلطنت یوشع بود، امپراتور آشور سامره را تصرّف و اسرائیلی‌ها را اسیر کرد و به آشور برد. گروهی از آنان را در شهر حَلَح، بعضی را در نزدیکی رودخانه خابور در ناحیه جوزان و بعضی را در شهرهای مادها، جایگزین کرد.

⁷It was so, because the children of Israel had sinned against Yahweh their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods,

⁷ سقوط سامره نتیجهٔ گناه مردم اسرائیل بود که در مقابل خداوند خدای خود مرتکب شدند. خدایی که آنها را از دست فرعون نجات داد، امّا آنها خدایان بیگانه را پرستش کردند.

⁸and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom Yahweh cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made.

⁸ از سنّتهای مردمی که خداوند از پیش روی قوم خود بیرون رانده بود و رسومی که پادشاهان اسرائیل آنها را آشنا کرده بودند، پیروی نمودند.

⁹The children of Israel did secretly things that were not right against Yahweh their God: and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city;

⁹ مردم اسرائیل در خفا کارهایی را که از نظر خدا، خداوندشان نیکو نبود، انجام دادند. آنها در کوچکترین دهکده‌ها تا شهرهای بزرگ در بالای تپّه‌ها برای خود پرستشگاهها ساختند.

¹⁰and they set them up pillars and Asherim on every high hill, and under every green tree;

¹⁰ در بالای تپّه‌ها و زیر هر درخت سبزی برای خود الههٔ اشره ساختند.

¹¹and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the nations whom Yahweh carried away before them; and they worked wicked things to provoke Yahweh to anger;

¹¹ مانند اقوامی که خداوند از سر راه ایشان برداشته بود، برفراز تپّه‌ها قربانی کردند. ایشان کارهای پلید کردند و خشم خداوند را برافروختند.

¹²and they served idols, of which Yahweh had said to them, “You shall not do this thing.”

¹² خداوند به ایشان فرموده بود که بت نپرستید، امّا ایشان چنین کردند.

¹³Yet Yahweh testified to Israel, and to Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”

¹³ با این وجود، خداوند به ‌وسیلهٔ همهٔ پیشگویان و تمام رائی‌ها به مردم اسرائیل و یهودا اخطار کرد و فرمود: «مطابق دستوراتی که به اجداد شما و خدمتگزاران خود انبیا برای شما فرستادم، از راههای پلید خود بازگردید و از فرامین و قوانین من پیروی کنید.»

¹⁴Notwithstanding, they would not listen, but hardened their neck, like the neck of their fathers, who didn’t believe in Yahweh their God.

¹⁴ آنها گوش فرا ندادند و سرسخت بودند و مانند اجدادشان به خداوند خدای خود ایمان نداشتند.

¹⁵They rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified to them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and followed the nations that were around them, concerning whom Yahweh had commanded them that they should not do like them.

¹⁵ ایشان از فرامین و پیمانی که خدا با اجدادشان بسته بود و اخطارهایی که به ایشان داده بود، بیزار شدند. ایشان از بُتهای بی‌ارزش پیروی کردند و ارزش خود را از دست دادند، به دنبال ملّتهای همسایه‌ای که خداوند فرمان داده بود، مانند ایشان عمل نکنید، رفتند.

¹⁶They forsook all the commandments of Yahweh their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshiped all the army of the sky, and served Baal.

¹⁶ ایشان از همهٔ فرامین خداوند سرپیچی کردند و برای خود دو گوسالهٔ فلزی و الههٔ اشره ساختند و آنچه را در آسمان بود، پرستش کردند و بت بعل را خدمت نمودند.

¹⁷They caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁷ ایشان دختران و پسران خود را در آتش سوزاندند و برای بُتها قربانی کردند و به جادوگری و فالگیری روی آوردند و خود را در نظر خداوند به پلیدی فروختند و خشم او را برانگیختند.

¹⁸Therefore Yahweh was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only.

¹⁸ خداوند بسیار خشمگین بود و ایشان را از حضور خود دور کرد و فقط قوم یهودا باقی ماند.

¹⁹Also Judah didn’t keep the commandments of Yahweh their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made.

¹⁹ مردم یهودا هم از احکام خداوند خدای خود اطاعت نکردند و از رسوم و شیوه‌هایی که مردم اسرائیل در پیش گرفته بودند، تقلید کردند.

²⁰Yahweh rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight.

²⁰ خداوند فرزندان اسرائیل را طرد کرد. ایشان را مجازات نمود و به دست تاراجگران سپرد و ایشان را از حضور خود بیرون انداخت.

²¹For he tore Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Yahweh, and made them sin a great sin.

²¹ بعد از آن که خداوند، اسرائیل را از خانوادهٔ داوود جدا کرد، آنها یربعام پسر نباط را به پادشاهی خود انتخاب کردند. یربعام مردم اسرائیل را از پیروی خداوند بازداشت و سبب شد که آنها مرتکب گناه بزرگی شوند.

²²The children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they didn’t depart from them;

²² مردم اسرائیل از گناهان یربعام پیروی کردند و از گناه کردن دست نکشیدند،

²³until Yahweh removed Israel out of his sight, as he spoke by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria to this day.

²³ تا اینکه خداوند، همان‌طور که به وسیلهٔ تمام انبیا پیشگویی فرموده بود، مردم اسرائیل را از حضور خود راند. در نتیجه، آنها در سرزمین آشور تا به امروز در حال تبعید به سر می‌برند.

²⁴The king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and lived in the cities of it.

²⁴ امپراتور آشور مردم را از بابل، کوت، عوا، حمات و سَفروایِم آورد و آنها را به جای مردم اسرائیل در شهرهای سامره جای داد. به این ترتیب آشوریان سامره را تصرّف نموده در شهرهای آن سکونت اختیار کردند.

²⁵So it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they didn’t fear Yahweh: therefore Yahweh sent lions among them, which killed some of them.

²⁵ چون این مردم در اوایل اقامت خود در آنجا خداوند را پرستش نکردند، در نتیجه خداوند شیرها را به میان آنها فرستاد و تعدادی از ایشان را کشت.

²⁶Therefore they spoke to the king of Assyria, saying, “The nations which you have carried away, and placed in the cities of Samaria, don’t know the law of the god of the land. Therefore he has sent lions among them, and behold, they kill them, because they don’t know the law of the god of the land.”

²⁶ پس به امپراتور آشور خبر دادند و گفتند: «مردمی را که آوردی و در شهرهای سامره جای دادی از قوانین خدای آن سرزمین خبر ندارند، بنابراین او شیرها را فرستاد و آنها مردم را می‌کشتند، زیرا از شریعت خدای آن سرزمین بی‌خبر هستند.»

²⁷Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, “Carry there one of the priests whom you brought from there; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land.”

²⁷ امپراتور آشور امر کرد: «یکی از کاهنانی را که اسیر گرفته‌اید به آنجا بفرستید تا به آنها شریعت خدای آن سر زمین را تعلیم بدهد.»

²⁸So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and lived in Bethel, and taught them how they should fear Yahweh.

²⁸ پس یکی از کاهنان را که از سامره اسیر کرده بودند به بیت‌ئیل فرستادند و او در آنجا سکونت اختیار کرد و به آنها آموخت که به چه ترتیب خداوند را بپرستند.

²⁹However every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities in which they lived.

²⁹ امّا مردمی که در سامرده ساکن شدند، برای خود خدایانی ساختند و در پرستشگا‌ههای بالای تپّه‌ها که مردم سامره بنا کرده بودند، قرار دادند.

³⁰The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima,

³⁰ مردم بابل بت سُكوّت‌بِنُوت را، مردم کوت بت نِرگال را، مردم حمات بت اَشیما را و

³¹and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

³¹ عویان بُتهای نِبحَز و تِرتاک را ساختند. مردم سفروایم فرزندان خود را برای اَدِرمَلَک و عَنَمَلَک خدایان خود، در آتش قربانی کردند.

³²So they feared Yahweh, and made to them from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places.

³² آنها همچنان خداوند را عبادت می‌کردند و از بین خود، از هر گروه، مردم کاهنانی را در پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها گماشتند که برای ایشان در همان پرستشگاهها قربانی تقدیم کنند.

³³They feared Yahweh, and served their own gods, after the ways of the nations from among whom they had been carried away.

³³ به این ترتیب هم خداوند و هم خدایان خود را می‌پرستیدند، مطابق رسوم سرزمینی که از آنجا آمده بودند.

³⁴To this day they do what they did before: they don’t fear Yahweh, neither do they follow their statutes, or their ordinances, or the law or the commandment which Yahweh commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

³⁴ تا امروز آنها از رسوم قبلی خود پیروی می‌کنند. ایشان خدا را پرستش نکردند و از فرامین و قوانین خداوند، که به فرزندان یعقوب - که وی را اسرائیل نامید- پیروی نکردند.

³⁵with whom Yahweh had made a covenant, and commanded them, saying, “You shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them;

³⁵ خداوند با ایشان پیمان بست و به ایشان فرمان داد: «خدایان دیگر را ستایش نکنید، به آنها سجده یا خدمت یا برای آنها قربانی نکنید،

³⁶but you shall fear Yahweh, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, and you shall bow yourselves to him, and you shall sacrifice to him.

³⁶ بلکه باید از من، یعنی خداوند پیروی کنید، کسی‌که شما را با اقتدار و توانایی از مصر بیرون آورد. شما باید مرا سجده کنید و برای من قربانی بگذرانید.

³⁷The statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, you shall observe to do forevermore. You shall not fear other gods.

³⁷ شما باید همواره از قوانین و فرمانهایی که من برای شما نوشتم، پیروی کنید. شما نباید از خدایان دیگر پیروی کنید،

³⁸You shall not forget the covenant that I have made with you; neither shall you fear other gods.

³⁸ و شما نباید پیمانی را که من با شما بستم فراموش کنید.

³⁹But you shall fear Yahweh your God; and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies.”

³⁹ شما باید از من، خداوند خدایتان اطاعت کنید تا شما را از دست دشمنانتان نجات دهم.»

⁴⁰However they did not listen, but they did what they did before.

⁴⁰ امّا آن قوم گوش ندادند و طبق آیین گذشتهٔ خود رفتار کردند. پس آن مردم خداوند را ستایش کردند، امّا بُتهای خود را نیز پرستیدند و تا امروز بازماندگان ایشان چنین می‌کنند.

⁴¹So these nations feared Yahweh, and served their engraved images. Their children likewise, and their children’s children, as their fathers did, so they do to this day.

⁴¹ پس آن مردم خداوند را ستایش کردند، امّا بُتهای خود را نیز پرستیدند و تا امروز بازماندگان ایشان چنین می‌کنند.
