¹It happened, when Yahweh would take up Elijah by a whirlwind into heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

¹ زمانی فرا رسیده بود که خداوند می‌خواست ایلیا را با گردبادی به آسمان ببرد، ایلیا و الیشع در راه بازگشت از جلجال بودند.

²Elijah said to Elisha, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me as far as Bethel.” Elisha said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

² ایلیا به الیشع گفت: «تو اینجا بمان، زیرا خداوند به من امر فرموده است که به بیت‌ئیل بروم.» امّا الیشع پاسخ داد: «به حیات خداوند و به زندگی تو سوگند که تو را ترک نخواهم کرد.» پس آنها رهسپار بیت‌ئیل شدند.

³The sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?” He said, “Yes, I know it; hold your peace.”

³ گروهی از انبیا که در آنجا زندگی می‌کردند، نزد الیشع رفتند و پرسیدند: «آیا می‌دانی، امروز خداوند سرورت را از تو خواهد گرفت؟» الیشع پاسخ داد: «بله می‌دانم، ساکت باشید.»

⁴Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to Jericho.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho.

⁴ ایلیا به الیشع گفت: «تو اینجا بمان، زیرا خداوند به من امر فرموده است که به اریحا بروم.» امّا الیشع پاسخ داد: «به حیات خداوند و به زندگی تو سوگند که تو را ترک نخواهم کرد.» پس آنها رهسپار اریحا شدند.

⁵The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that Yahweh will take away your master from your head today?” He answered, “Yes, I know it. Hold your peace.”

⁵ گروهی از انبیا که در آنجا زندگی می‌کردند نزد الیشع رفتند و پرسیدند: «آیا می‌دانی امروز خداوند سرورت را از تو خواهد گرفت؟» الیشع پاسخ داد: «بله می‌دانم، ساکت باشید.»

⁶Elijah said to him, “Please wait here, for Yahweh has sent me to the Jordan.” He said, “As Yahweh lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.” They both went on.

⁶ ایلیا به الیشع گفت: «تو اینجا بمان زیرا خداوند مرا امر فرموده که به رود اردن بروم.» الیشع پاسخ داد: «به حیات خداوند و به زندگی تو سوگند که تو را ترک نخواهم کرد.» پس هردوی ایشان روانه شدند.

⁷Fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood opposite them at a distance; and they both stood by the Jordan.

⁷ پنجاه نفر از انبیا به دنبال ایشان تا رود اردن آمدند. ایلیا و الیشع در کنار رود اردن ایستادند و پنجاه نبی در فاصلهٔ کوتاهی از آنها ایستادند.

⁸Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that they two went over on dry ground.

⁸ ایلیا ردای خویش را گرفت و آن را پیچید و آب را زد، آب شکافته شد و آنها از روی خشکی به آن سوی رود رفتند.

⁹It happened, when they had gone over, that Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me.”

⁹ آنجا ایلیا به الیشع گفت: «به من بگو قبل از اینکه من برداشته شوم، چه کاری می‌خواهی برای تو انجام دهم؟» الیشع پاسخ داد: «لطفاً دو برابر روح خود را به من بده.»

¹⁰He said, “You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.”

¹⁰ ایلیا گفت: «تو درخواست دشواری کرده‌ای، با این وجود اگر هنگامی‌که من برداشته می‌شوم، مرا ببینی درخواست تو عملی خواهد شد و اگر مرا نبینی چنین نخواهد شد.»

¹¹It happened, as they still went on, and talked, that behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

¹¹ همچنان‌که به راه رفتن و گفت‌وگو ادامه می‌دادند، ارابهٔ آتشین و اسبهای آتشین، ایشان را از هم جدا کردند و ایلیا در گردبادی به آسمان برده شد.

¹²Elisha saw it, and he cried, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” He saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces.

¹² الیشع این را دید و فریاد برآورد: «ای پدرم، ای پدرم، ای مدافع نیرومند اسرائیل، تو رفتی!» و پس از آن ایلیا را دیگر هرگز ندید. الیشع از اندوه ردای خود را درید و به دو نیم کرد.

¹³He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of the Jordan.

¹³ آنگاه ردای ایلیا را که افتاده بود، برداشت و به کنار رود اردن بازگشت و آنجا ایستاد

¹⁴He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and struck the waters, and said, “Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah?” When he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha went over.

¹⁴ و با ردای ایلیا آب را زد و گفت: «کجاست خداوند خدای ایلیا؟» سپس دوباره آب را زد و آب کنار رفت و به آن ‌سوی رود رفت.

¹⁵When the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho over against him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” They came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

¹⁵ پنجاه نفر نبی اهل اریحا که او را تماشا می‌کردند، گفتند: «روح ایلیا بر الیشع ساکن است.» و به ملاقات او رفتند و به او تعظیم کردند.

¹⁶They said to him, “See now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. Perhaps the Spirit of Yahweh has taken him up, and put him on some mountain, or into some valley. He said, “You shall not send them.”

¹⁶ و به او گفتند: «در میان خدمتکاران ما پنجاه مرد نیرومند است، لطفاً اجازه بدهید بروند و سرور شما را بیابند. شاید روح خداوند او را بر کوهی یا در درّه‌ای گذاشته باشد.» او پاسخ داد: «نه، آنها را نفرستید.»

¹⁷When they urged him until he was ashamed, he said, “Send them.” They sent therefore fifty men; and they searched for three days, but didn’t find him.

¹⁷ امّا آن‌قدر اصرار کردند تا مجبور شد و گفت: «بفرستید.» آنها پنجاه مرد را فرستادند و سه روز به جستجوی او پرداختند، ولی او را نیافتند.

¹⁸They came back to him, while he stayed at Jericho; and he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you, ‘Don’t go?’”

¹⁸ آنگاه ایشان نزد الیشع که در اریحا منتظر بود، بازگشتند او به ایشان گفت: «مگر به شما نگفتم که نروید؟»

¹⁹The men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, please, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the land miscarries.”

¹⁹ مردم شهر به الیشع گفتند: «همان‌طور که می‌بینید این شهر در جای خوبی قرار دارد، امّا آب آن بد و زمین آن بی‌حاصل است.»

²⁰He said, “Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.” They brought it to him.

²⁰ او گفت: «در کاسه‌ای نو، نمک بریزید و نزد من بیاورید.» پس برایش آوردند.

²¹He went out to the spring of the waters, and threw salt into it, and said, “Thus says Yahweh, ‘I have healed these waters. There shall not be from there any more death or miscarrying.’”

²¹ آنگاه الیشع به چشمهٔ آب رفت و نمک را در آب ریخت و گفت: «خداوند می‌فرماید: 'من این آب را گوارا ساختم. پس از این، مرگ و بی‌حاصلی از آن پدید نیاید.'»

²²So the waters were healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.

²² پس آب آنجا طبق گفتهٔ الیشع تا به امروز گوارا شده است.

²³He went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up by the way, some youths came out of the city and mocked him, and said to him, “Go up, you baldy! Go up, you baldhead!”

²³ الیشع از آنجا به بیت‌ئیل رفت. در راه، پسران خردسال او را مسخره کردند و گفتند: «ای کچل برو گمشو، ای کچل برو گمشو!»

²⁴He looked behind him and saw them, and cursed them in the name of Yahweh. Two female bears came out of the woods, and mauled forty-two of those youths.

²⁴ الیشع به عقب برگشت و آنها را دید و همه را به نام خداوند لعنت کرد. آنگاه دو خرس ماده از جنگل بیرون آمدند و چهل و دو نفر از آنها را دریدند. الیشع از آنجا به کوه کرمل رفت و سپس به سامره برگشت.

²⁵He went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
