¹Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

¹ یوشیا هشت ساله بود که پادشاه شد و مدّت سی و یک سال در اورشلیم سلطنت کرد. نام مادرش یَدیده و دختر عدایه از شهر بُصقت بود.

²He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, and walked in all the way of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

² او هرآنچه را که در نظر خداوند نیکو بود، بجا می‌آورد و در راه جدّش داوود گام برداشت و به راههای چپ یا راست منحرف نشد.

³It happened in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah the son of Meshullam, the scribe, to the house of Yahweh, saying,

³ یوشیا در سال هجدهم سلطنت خود، شافان پسر اَصَلیا، نوهٔ مَشُلام را که منشی معبد بزرگ خداوند بود، به حضور خود خواند و گفت:

⁴“Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may sum the money which is brought into the house of Yahweh, which the keepers of the threshold have gathered of the people.

⁴ «نزد حلقیا، کاهن اعظم برو و پولی را که کاهنان باید هنگام ورود مردم به معبد بزرگ از آنها بگیرند، بگیر

⁵Let them deliver it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh; and let them give it to the workmen who are in the house of Yahweh, to repair the breaches of the house,

⁵ و به کسانی‌که مأمور ترمیم معبد بزرگ هستند بده تا مزد نجّاران، معماران و بنّایان و قیمت چوب و سنگ مورد نیاز ترمیم معبد بزرگ را بپردازند.

⁶to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons, and for buying timber and cut stone to repair the house.

⁶ مأموران کار ترمیم، اشخاص صادقی هستند و نیازی نیست که از آنها صورت حساب هزینه‌ها را طلب کنی.»

⁷However there was no accounting made with them of the money that was delivered into their hand; for they dealt faithfully.”

⁷ شافان فرمان پادشاه را به حلقیا رساند و حلقیا به او گفت که کتاب تورات را در معبد بزرگ یافته است، پس آن را به شافان داد. شافان آن را خواند.

⁸Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

⁸ بعد نزد پادشاه بازگشت و به او گزارش داده گفت: «پولی را که در معبد بزرگ بود، گرفتم و به مأموران کار ترمیم معبد بزرگ دادم.»

⁹Shaphan the scribe came to the king, and brought the king word again, and said, “Your servants have emptied out the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of Yahweh.”

⁹ آنگاه او گفت: «کتابی را که حلقیا به من داد، نزد من است.» سپس کتاب را با صدای بلند برای پادشاه خواند.

¹⁰Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered a book to me.” Shaphan read it before the king.

¹⁰ وقتی پادشاه کلام کتاب تورات را شنید، لباس خود را پاره کرد.

¹¹It happened, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he tore his clothes.

¹¹ بعد به حلقیای کاهن، اخیقام پسر شافان، عَکبور پسر میکایا، شافان منشی و یکی دیگر از مأموران خود به نام عسایا امر کرده گفت:

¹²The king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Micaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

¹² «بروید و از خداوند دربارهٔ آموزشهای این کتاب برای من و مردم یهودا جویا شوید. خداوند از ما خشمگین است؛ زیرا اجداد ما کارهایی را که این کتاب گفته شده است، انجام نداده‌اند.»

¹³“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found; for great is the wrath of Yahweh that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not listened to the words of this book, to do according to all that which is written concerning us.”

¹³ پس حلقیای کاهن، اخیقام، عکبور، شافان و عسایا نزد زنی به نام حُلده که نبیّه بود، رفتند. او همسر شلوم بود، و پسرش تقوه، نوهٔ حَرحَس که مسئول لباس در معبد بزرگ بود. حلده در قسمت نوساز اورشلیم ساکن بود. ایشان به وی گفتند که چه روی داده است.

¹⁴So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter); and they talked with her.

¹⁴ حلده به ایشان گفت: «بروید و به مردی که شما را فرستاده بگویید، خداوند خدای اسرائیل می‌فرماید:

¹⁵She said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

¹⁵ 'من بر این مکان و ساکنان آن بلایی فرود خواهم آورد، همان‌طور که در کتابی که پادشاه یهودا خوانده است، نوشته شده است.

¹⁶“Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read.

¹⁶ زیرا ایشان مرا ترک کردند و برای خدایان دیگر بُخور سوزاندند و با کارهای خود خشم مرا برانگیخته‌اند، خشم من علیه اورشلیم افروخته شده و خاموش نخواهد شد.'

¹⁷Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and it shall not be quenched.’”

¹⁷ امّا در مورد پادشاه یهودا، که شما را فرستاد تا از خداوند راهنمایی بخواهد، به او بگویید که خداوند خدای اسرائیل می‌فرماید: 'تو کلام این کتاب را شنیدی

¹⁸But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, thus you shall tell him, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Concerning the words which you have heard,

¹⁸ و چون توبه کردی، سر تواضع خم نمودی، لباست را دریدی و پی بردی که من این شهر و ساکنان آن را جزا می‌دهم و نفرین می‌کنم. من دعایت را شینده‌ام و تا زمانی که زنده هستی بلایی را که بر سر اورشلیم می‌آورم، نخواهی دید بلکه بعد از وفات تو آن کار را می‌کنم تا با خاطرجمعی و روحی آسوده از این جهان بروی.'» آنها پیام او را به پادشاه رساندند.

¹⁹because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Yahweh, when you heard what I spoke against this place, and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,’ says Yahweh.

¹⁹ و تا زمانی که زنده هستی بلایی را که بر سر اورشلیم می‌آورم، نخواهی دید بلکه بعد از وفات تو آن کار را می‌کنم تا با خاطرجمعی و روحی آسوده از این جهان بروی.'» آنها پیام او را به پادشاه رساندند.

²⁰‘Therefore behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” They brought back this message to the king.
