¹The king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

¹ یوشیا همهٔ رهبران یهودا و اورشلیم را احضار کرد.

²The king went up to the house of Yahweh, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of Yahweh.

² پادشاه به اتّفاق تمام مردم یهودا و اورشلیم، کاهنان و مردم از کوچک تا بزرگ به معبد بزرگ رفت. او تمام کتاب عهدی را که در معبد بزرگ یافته بودند، برای همه خواند.

³The king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book: and all the people stood to the covenant.

³ پادشاه در کنار ستون با خداوند پیمان بست که از او پیروی کند و فرامین، قوانین و احکام او و کلماتی را که در کتاب پیمان نوشته بود، با تمام دل و جان خود انجام دهد. همهٔ مردم در این پیمان به او پیوستند.

⁴The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of Yahweh’s temple all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky, and he burned them outside of Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.

⁴ آنگاه یوشیا به کاهن اعظم و دستیارانش و محافظین دروازهٔ معبد بزرگ دستور داد تا تمام وسایلی را که برای پرستش بت بعل و الههٔ اشره و ستارگان آسمان بکار می‌رفت، بیرون بیاورند. او آنها را در بیرون شهر اورشلیم و در وادی قدرون سوزاند و خاکستر آن را به بیت‌ئیل برد.

⁵He put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the army of the sky.

⁵ او تمام کاهنانی را که پادشاهان یهودا برای قربانی کردن در قربانگاه بُتها در شهر یهودا و نزدیک اورشلیم، تعیین کرده بودند، به همراه تمام کاهنان بعل، خورشید، ماه، سیارات و ستاره‌ها برکنار کرد.

⁶He brought out the Asherah from the house of Yahweh, outside of Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast its dust on the graves of the common people.

⁶ الههٔ اشره را که در معبد بزرگ خداوند بود، بیرون آورد و در خارج اورشلیم، در وادی قدرون سوزاند و به خاکستر تبدیل کرد و بعد خاک آن را بر گورستان عمومی پاشید.

⁷He broke down the houses of the sodomites, that were in the house of Yahweh, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.

⁷ محل سکونت لواطیان را که در معبد بزرگ بود و زنها در آنجا برای الههٔ اشره لباس می‌بافتند، ویران کرد.

⁸He brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.

⁸ او همهٔ کاهنان را از شهرهای یهودا به اورشلیم آورد و به تمام قربانگاههایی که در سراسر کشور در‌ ‌آنها قربانی می‌کردند، بی‌حرمتی کرد. او همچنین قربانگاههای بُز پلید را در نزدیکی دروازهٔ یهوشع حاکم شهر، که در سمت چپ دروازهٔ ورودی بود را ویران کرد.

⁹Nevertheless the priests of the high places didn’t come up to the altar of Yahweh in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.

⁹ آن کاهنان اجازه نداشتند در معبد بزرگ خدمت کنند ولی می‌توانستند از نان فطیر در میان برادران خود بخورند.

¹⁰He defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

¹⁰ یوشیای پادشاه به پرستشگاه توفَت در درّهٔ بنی‌هنوم بی‌حرمتی کرد، پس دیگر کسی نمی‌توانست دختر یا پسر خود را به عنوان قربانی سوختنی برای مولِک به عنوان قربانی سوختنی برای خدای مولِک قربانی کند.

¹¹He took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of Yahweh, by the room of Nathan Melech the officer, who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

¹¹ او همچنین اسبهایی را که پادشاهان یهودا برای پرستش خورشید وقف کرده بودند، از آنجا برداشت و ارّابه‌های آنها را سوزاند (اسبها در حیاط معبد بزرگ در نزدیکی دروازه و نه چندان دور از محل زندگی نَتَنمَلَک که از مقامات مهم بود، نگهداری می‌شدند.)

¹²The king broke down the altars that were on the roof of the upper room of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Yahweh, and beat them down from there, and cast their dust into the brook Kidron.

¹² قربانگاههایی را که پادشاهان یهودا بر بام خانهٔ آحاز، پادشاه اسرائیل ساخته بودند، با قربانگاههایی که منسی در دو حیاط معبد بزرگ بنا کرده بود، ویران ساخت و خاک و سنگ آنها را در وادی قدرون پاشید.

¹³The the king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon.

¹³ یوشیا قربانگاههایی را که سلیمان پادشاه در شرق اورشلیم و جنوب کوه زیتون برای پرستش بُتهای نفرت‌انگیز اَشتورت الههٔ صیدونیان، کموش بت موآبیان و مِلکُوم بت عمون ساخته بود، بی‌حرمتی کرد.

¹⁴He broke in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Asherim, and filled their places with the bones of men.

¹⁴ یوشیای پادشاه، ستونهای سنگی را شکست و الههٔ اشره را خُرد کرد و جای آن را با استخوانهای انسان پوشاند.

¹⁵Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.

¹⁵ همچنین قربانگاه بیت‌ئیل و پرستشگاههای بلندی را که یربعام پسر نباط، یعنی کسی‌که قوم اسرائیل را به گناه کشید، ساخته بود ویران کرد. پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها را آتش زد و تبدیل به خاکستر نمود و الههٔ اشره را هم سوزاند.

¹⁶As Josiah turned himself, he spied the tombs that were there in the mountain; and he sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them on the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of Yahweh which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

¹⁶ آنگاه یوشیا چند قبر در روی تپّه دید، او دستور داد تا استخوانها را از گورها بیرون بیاورند و بر روی قربانگاه بسوزانند و به این ترتیب قربانگاه را ناپاک کرد. همان‌گونه که کلام خداوند بر نبی آمده بود و او این رویدادها را پیش‌بینی کرده بود.

¹⁷Then he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

¹⁷ آنگاه یوشیا پرسید: «آن مقبره چیست؟» مردم شهر بیت‌ئیل پاسخ دادند: «این مقبرهٔ نبی‌ای است که از یهودا آمد و کارهایی را که تو علیه قربانگاه بیت‌ئیل کردی، پیشگویی کرده بود.»

¹⁸He said, “Let him be! Let no man move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

¹⁸ یوشیا دستور داد: «با آن کاری نداشته باشید، استخوانهای او را جابه‌جا نکنید.» پس استخوانهای او و نبی‌ای را که از سامره آمده بود، تکان ندادند.

¹⁹All the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke Yahweh to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.

¹⁹ یوشیای پادشاه، در تمام شهرهای اسرائیل همهٔ پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها را که توسط پادشاهان اسرائیل ساخته شده بودند و به وسیلهٔ آن خشم خداوند برانگیخته شده بود، ویران کرد. او با آن قربانگاهها مانند قربانگاه بیت‌ئیل رفتار کرد.

²⁰He killed all the priests of the high places that were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.

²⁰ او تمام کاهنانی را که در قربانگاههای بت‌پرستان خدمت می‌کردند، بر همان قربانگاهها کشت و در روی قربانگاهها استخوانهای انسان را سوزاند. آنگاه به اورشلیم بازگشت.

²¹The king commanded all the people, saying, “Keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.”

²¹ یوشیا دستور داد تا مراسم عید فصح را برای جلال خداوند خدای خود جشن بگیرند همان‌گونه که در کتاب عهد نوشته شده است.

²²Surely there was not kept such a Passover from the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;

²² از زمان داورانی که بر اسرائیل داوری می‌کردند تا آن روز هیچ پادشاهی از اسرائیل یا یهودا، جشن عید فصح را این چنین برگزار نکرده بود.

²³but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah was this Passover kept to Yahweh in Jerusalem.

²³ در سال هجدهم سلطنت یوشیا پادشاه، جشن عید فصح در اورشلیم برای خداوند برگزار شد.

²⁴Moreover Josiah removed those who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of Yahweh.

²⁴ همچنین یوشیا احضار کنندگان روح، افسونگران، فالگیران، بُتهای خانگی و همهٔ وسایل مربوط به آن را در سرزمین یهودا و اورشلیم از بین برد تا اوامر کتابی که حلقیای کاهن آن را در معبد بزرگ یافته بود، بجا آورده شود.

²⁵Like him was there no king before him, who turned to Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

²⁵ پیش از یوشیا هیچ پادشاهی نبود که مطابق شریعت موسی با تمام دل، جان و توان به سوی خداوند روی آورد و پس از او نیز پادشاهی چون او برنخاست.

²⁶Notwithstanding, Yahweh didn’t turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocation with which Manasseh had provoked him.

²⁶ امّا به خاطر کارهای منسی آتش خشم خداوند علیه یهودا فرو ننشست و حتّی اکنون نیز خاموش نشده است.

²⁷Yahweh said, “I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’”

²⁷ خداوند فرمود: «من یهودا را از نظر دور خواهم داشت، همان‌طور که اسرائیل را دور داشته‌‌ام و شهر برگزیده خود، اورشلیم و معبد بزرگی را که گفتم نام من در آن خواهد بود، ترک خواهم کرد.»

²⁸Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

²⁸ بقیّهٔ وقایع دوران سلطنت یوشیا و کارهای او در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان یهودا نوشته شده‌ است.

²⁹In his days Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and Pharaoh Necoh killed him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

²⁹ در زمان پادشاهی یوشیا، نِکوه فرعون مصر با ارتش خود به سوی رود فرات رفت تا به امپراتور آشور کمک کند. یوشیا سعی کرد ایشان را در مجدو متوقّف کند، امّا در نبرد کشته شد.

³⁰His servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place.

³⁰ افسران او جسدش را در ارّابه‌ای گذاشتند و به اورشلیم بردند و در گور خودش به خاک سپردند. مردم یهودا پسر او، یهوآخاز را به جای پدرش به تخت سلطنت نشاندند.

³¹Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

³¹ یهوآخاز بیست و سه ساله بود که بر تخت سلطنت نشست و مدّت سه ماه در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد. نام مادرش حَموطَل، دختر ارمیا و از اهالی لبنه بود.

³²He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers had done.

³² او مثل اجداد خود کارهایی کرد که در نظر خداوند زشت بود.

³³Pharaoh Necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of one hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

³³ فرعون نکوه او را در رِبلَه، در سرزمین حمات، به زندان انداخت تا دیگر نتواند در اورشلیم سلطنت کند و یهودا را مجبور کرد که سالانه دو خروار نقره و سی و چهار کیلو طلا خراج بدهد.

³⁴Pharaoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim: but he took Jehoahaz away; and he came to Egypt, and died there.

³⁴ سپس فرعون نکوه، الیاقیم یکی دیگر از پسران یوشیا را پادشاه ساخت و نامش را به یهویاقیم تبدیل کرد. امّا یهوآخاز را با خود به مصر برد و او در همان‌جا درگذشت.

³⁵Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of everyone according to his taxation, to give it to Pharaoh Necoh.

³⁵ یهویاقیم از مردم به نسبت دارایی ایشان مالیات می‌گرفت تا به این وسیله میزان خراجی را که باید به فرعون می‌پرداخت، جمع‌آوری کند.

³⁶Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

³⁶ یهویاقیم بیست و پنج ساله بود که به سلطنت رسید و مدّت یازده سال در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد. نام مادرش زبیده، دختر فدایه و از مردم رومه بود. او مثل نیاکان خود کارهایی کرد که در نظر خداوند پلید بود.

³⁷He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers had done.

³⁷ او مثل نیاکان خود کارهایی کرد که در نظر خداوند پلید بود.
