¹Now Naaman, captain of the army of the king of Syria, was a great man with his master, and honorable, because by him Yahweh had given victory to Syria: he was also a mighty man of valor, but he was a leper.

¹ پادشاه سوریه، برای نعمان فرماندهٔ ارتش خود، ارزش و احترام فراوان قایل بود. زیرا توسط او خداوند به سوریه پیروزی بخشیده بود. با وجودی که او رزمنده‌ای مقتدر بود، ولی از بیماری جذام رنج می‌برد.

²The Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maiden; and she waited on Naaman’s wife.

² در این هنگام سپاه سوریه در یکی از حملات خود، دختر جوانی از سرزمین اسرائیل را اسیر کرده برد و او همسر نعمان را خدمت می‌کرد.

³She said to her mistress, “I wish that my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! Then he would heal him of his leprosy.”

³ او به بانوی خود گفت: «اگر سرورم نزد نبی‌ای که در سامره است می‌بود، او می‌توانست وی را از جذامش شفا دهد.»

⁴Someone went in, and told his lord, saying, “The maiden who is from the land of Israel said this.”

⁴ پس نعمان آنچه را که از دختر اسرائیلی شنیده بود، به پادشاه سوریه گفت.

⁵The king of Syria said, “Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel.” He departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand pieces of gold, and ten changes of clothing.

⁵ پادشاه گفت: «برو و من نامه‌ای همراه تو به پادشاه اسرائیل خواهم فرستاد.» او رفت و با خود سی هزار تکهٔ نقره، شش هزار تکهٔ طلا و ده دست لباس برد.

⁶He brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, “Now when this letter has come to you, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy.”

⁶ او نامه را نزد پادشاه اسرائیل آورد، متن نامه چنین بود: «به وسیلهٔ این نامه من خدمتگذار خود نعمان را به تو معرّفی می‌کنم تا او را از مرض جذام شفا دهی.»

⁷It happened, when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he tore his clothes, and said, “Am I God, to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to heal a man of his leprosy? But please consider and see how he seeks a quarrel against me.”

⁷ هنگامی‌که پادشاه اسرائیل نامه را خواند، جامهٔ خود را پاره کرد و گفت: «مگر من خدا هستم که مرگ یا زندگی ببخشم که این مرد برای من پیام می‌فرستد که نعمان را از جذام شفا دهم؟ ببینید چگونه بهانه‌جویی می‌کند.»

⁸It was so, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, “Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.”

⁸ امّا هنگامی‌که الیشع مرد خدا شنید که پادشاه اسرائیل جامهٔ خود را پاره کرده است، پیامی برای پادشاه فرستاد: «چرا جامه خود را پاره‌ کرده‌ای؟ بگذار نزد من بیاید تا بداند در اسرائیل نبی‌ای هست.»

⁹So Naaman came with his horses and with his chariots, and stood at the door of the house of Elisha.

⁹ پس نعمان با اسب و ارّابه‌اش رفت و در جلوی خانهٔ الیشع ایستاد.

¹⁰Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, “Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall come again to you, and you shall be clean.”

¹⁰ الیشع خادم خود را فرستاد و به او گفت: «برو خود را هفت بار در رود اردون بشوی تا از مرض خود شفا بیابی.»

¹¹But Naaman was angry, and went away, and said, “Behold, I thought, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Yahweh his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leper.’

¹¹ امّا نعمان با خشم آنجا را ترک کرد و گفت: «من فکر کردم او حداقل نزد من بیرون خواهد آمد و خواهد ایستاد و نام خداوند خدای خود را خواهد خواند و دستش را روی زخم من تکان خواهد داد و جذام من شفا پیدا خواهد کرد.

¹²Aren’t Abanah and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Couldn’t I wash in them, and be clean?” So he turned and went away in a rage.

¹² آیا رودهای ابانه و فَرفَر دمشق، از همهٔ رودهای اسرائیل بهتر نیستند؟ آیا نمی‌توانستم در آنها شست‌وشو کنم و پاک گردم؟» او بازگشت و با خشم رفت.

¹³His servants came near, and spoke to him, and said, “My father, if the prophet had asked you do some great thing, wouldn’t you have done it? How much rather then, when he says to you, ‘Wash, and be clean?’”

¹³ امّا خدمتکارانش نزد او آمده و گفتند: «اگر نبی از شما می‌خواست کار دشواری را انجام دهید، آیا بجا نمی‌آوردید؟ حالا چرا همان‌طور که او گفته خود را نمی‌شویید تا شفا پیدا کنید؟»

¹⁴Then went he down, and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

¹⁴ پس نعمان به رود اردن رفت و هفت بار در آن فرو رفت و طبق کلام مرد خدا شفا یافت و بدنش مانند یک کودک سالم و پاک گردید.

¹⁵He returned to the man of God, he and all his company, and came, and stood before him; and he said, “See now, I know that there is no God in all the earth, but in Israel. Now therefore, please take a gift from your servant.”

¹⁵ آنگاه او با همهٔ همراهانش نزد مرد خدا بازگشت و در حضور وی ایستاد و گفت: «اکنون می‌دانم که در تمام جهان خدایی به جز خدای اسرائیل نیست. خواهشمندم این هدایا را از خدمتکار خود بپذیرید.»

¹⁶But he said, “As Yahweh lives, before whom I stand, I will receive none.” He urged him to take it; but he refused.

¹⁶ امّا الیشع گفت: «به خداوند زنده‌ای که او را خدمت می‌کنم، سوگند که هدیه‌ای از تو نخواهم پذیرفت.» نعمان اصرار کرد که او آن را بپذیرد، امّا او نپذیرفت

¹⁷Naaman said, “If not, then, please let two mules’ burden of earth be given to your servant; for your servant will from now on offer neither burnt offering nor sacrifice to other gods, but to Yahweh.

¹⁷ پس نعمان گفت: «حالا که هدایای مرا نمی‌پذیری، اجازه بده که دو بار قاطر از خاک اینجا به کشورم ببرم، زیرا پس از این قربانی و هدایایی سوختنی به هیچ خدایی به جز خداوند تقدیم نخواهم کرد.

¹⁸In this thing may Yahweh pardon your servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow myself in the house of Rimmon. When I bow myself in the house of Rimmon, may Yahweh pardon your servant in this thing.”

¹⁸ امیدوارم که خدا هنگامی‌که همراه پادشاه به پرستشگاه رِمون، خدای سوریه می‌روم، مرا ببخشد زیرا پادشاه به بازوی من تکیه می‌کند و هنگامی‌که آنجا سجده می‌کنم خداوند مرا به این خاطر ببخشد.»

¹⁹He said to him, “Go in peace.” So he departed from him a little way.

¹⁹ الیشع گفت: «به سلامت برو.» هنگامی‌که نعمان فاصله کمی دور شده بود

²⁰But Gehazi the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, “Behold, my master has spared this Naaman the Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought. As Yahweh lives, I will run after him, and take something from him.”

²⁰ جیحزی، خدمتکار الیشع با خود اندیشید: «سرورم بدون اینکه هدایا را بپذیرد، اجازه داد نعمان برود! به خدای زنده سوگند که دنبال او خواهم دوید و چیزی از او خواهم گرفت.»

²¹So Gehazi followed after Naaman. When Naaman saw one running after him, he came down from the chariot to meet him, and said, “Is all well?”

²¹ پس جیحزی به ‌دنبال نعمان رفت. هنگامی‌که نعمان دید که کسی به دنبال او می‌دود از ارابهٔ خود پایین پرید و به استقبالش آمد و گفت: «آیا اتّفاق بدی افتاده است؟»

²²He said, “All is well. My master has sent me, saying, ‘Behold, even now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the hill country of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothing.’”

²² جیحزی پاسخ داد: «نه، امّا سرورم مرا فرستاد تا به شما بگویم که دو نفر از گروه انبیای منطقهٔ کوهستانی افرایم رسیده‌اند و او می‌خواهد که شما به آنها سه هزار تکهٔ نقره و دو دست لباس بدهید.»

²³Naaman said, “Be pleased to take two talents.” He urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of clothing, and laid them on two of his servants; and they carried them before him.

²³ نعمان گفت: «خواهش می‌کنم شش هزار تکهٔ نقره بگیرید.» و اصرار کرد و آنها را در دو کیسه گذاشت و با دو دست لباس به دو نفر از خدمتکارانش داد و آنها را جلوتر از جیحزی روانه کرد.

²⁴When he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and stored them in the house. Then he let the men go, and they departed.

²⁴ هنگامی‌که آنها به تپّه‌ای که الیشع در آن زندگی می‌کرد رسیدند، جیحزی دو کیسهٔ نقره به داخل خانه برد و سپس خدمتکاران نعمان را بازگرداند.

²⁵But he went in, and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, “Where did you come from, Gehazi?” He said, “Your servant went nowhere.”

²⁵ او به درون خانه رفت و الیشع از وی پرسید: «کجا بودی؟» او پاسخ داد: «سرورم هیچ کجا.»

²⁶He said to him, “Didn’t my heart go with you, when the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and olive groves and vineyards, and sheep and cattle, and male servants and female servants?

²⁶ امّا الیشع گفت: «آیا هنگامی‌که آن مرد از ارّابه‌اش به استقبال تو آمد روح من آنجا نبود؟ اکنون زمانی نیست که پول و لباس، باغهای زیتون و تاکستانها، گوسفند و گلّه و خدمتکار پذیرفت! پس اکنون بیماری نعمان بر تو خواهد آمد و تو و فرزندانت برای همیشه به آن دچار خواهید بود.» هنگامی‌که جیحزی رفت، به بیماری دچار شده پوستش مانند برف سفید بود.

²⁷Therefore the leprosy of Naaman will cling to you and to your seed forever.” He went out from his presence a leper, as white as snow.

²⁷ پس اکنون بیماری نعمان بر تو خواهد آمد و تو و فرزندانت برای همیشه به آن دچار خواهید بود.» هنگامی‌که جیحزی رفت، به بیماری دچار شده پوستش مانند برف سفید بود.
