¹It was told Joab, “Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom.”

¹ یوآب باخبر شد که پادشاه برای ابشالوم گریه می‌کند و سوگوار است.

²The victory that day was turned into mourning to all the people; for the people heard it said that day, “The king grieves for his son.”

² چون مردم شنیدند که پادشاه به‌خاطر پسر خود بسیار غمگین است، پیروزی آن روز به اندوه تبدیل شد.

³The people sneaked into the city that day, as people who are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.

³ سربازان همه به آرامی وارد شهر شدند، مانند سپاهی که شکست خورده باشد.

⁴The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, “My son Absalom, Absalom, my son, my son!”

⁴ پادشاه روی خود را پوشاند و با صدای بلند گریه کرد و گفت: «آه ای پسرم، ابشالوم! وای پسرم، ابشالوم!»

⁵Joab came into the house to the king, and said, “You have shamed this day the faces of all your servants, who this day have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines;

⁵ آنگاه یوآب به کاخ پادشاه آمد و به او گفت: «امروز تو همه را خجالت دادی. همین مردم بودند که زندگی تو، پسران، دختران، زنان و صیغه‌‌هایت را نجات دادند.

⁶in that you love those who hate you, and hate those who love you. For you have declared this day, that princes and servants are nothing to you. For today I perceive that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it would have pleased you well.

⁶ تو دشمنان خود را دوست داری و از کسانی‌که به تو محبّت دارند نفرت داری. حالا به ما ثابت شد که مأموران و خدمتکارانت پیش تو هیچ ارزشی ندارند. امروز فهمیدیم که اگر ابشالوم زنده بود و همهٔ ما کشته می‌شدیم تو شاد می‌شدی.

⁷Now therefore arise, go out, and speak to comfort your servants; for I swear by Yahweh, if you don’t go out, not a man will stay with you this night. That would be worse to you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now.”

⁷ به هر صورت حالا برخیز و بیرون برو با مردم با مهربانی صحبت کن. اگر این کار را نکنی به خدا قسم که تا شب یک نفر هم برایت باقی نمی‌ماند و این برایت مصیبتی خواهد بود که در عمرت ندیده باشی.»

⁸Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. They told to all the people, saying, “Behold, the king is sitting in the gate.” All the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.

⁸ پس پادشاه به ناچار برخاست و رفت و کنار دروازهٔ شهر نشست. مردان او شنیدند که او آنجاست و همهٔ آنها آنجا جمع شدند. در این زمان تمام اسرائیلی‌ها به شهرهای خودشان فرار کردند.

⁹All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.

⁹ بحث و گفت‌وگویی در بین تمام طایفه‌ها شروع شد و می‌گفتند: «پادشاه، ما را از دست دشمنان ما و فلسطینی‌ها نجات داد و حالا از دست ابشالوم فراری است و در آوارگی به سر می‌برد.

¹⁰Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why don’t you speak a word of bringing the king back?”

¹⁰ حالا ابشالوم که ما به عنوان پادشاه خود مسح نموده‌ایم در جنگ کشته شده است، پس چرا منتظر هستیم و داوود پادشاه را باز نمی‌آوریم؟»

¹¹King David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, “Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, ‘Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house? Since the speech of all Israel has come to the king, to return him to his house.

¹¹ خبر آنچه اسرائیلی‌ها می‌گفتند به داوود رسید. بعد داوود پادشاه به صادوق و ابیاتار کاهن پیامی به این شرح فرستاد: «به رهبران یهودا بگویید: چرا در باز آوردن پادشاه، شما آخر همه هستید؟

¹²You are my brothers, you are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?’

¹² و شما که برادران و از رگ و خون من هستید چرا در باز آوردن پادشاه تأخیر می‌کنید؟

¹³Say to Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you aren’t captain of the army before me continually in the room of Joab.’”

¹³ و به عماسا بگویید: چون تو خواهرزادهٔ من هستی، خدا مرا بکشد، اگر تو را به جای یوآب سپهسالار خود مقرّر نکنم.»

¹⁴He bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as one man; so that they sent to the king, saying, “Return, you and all your servants.”

¹⁴ پس عماسا سرکردگان یهودا را قانع ساخت و آنها هم با یکدل و یک زبان موافقت کردند و به پادشاه پیام فرستادند و گفتند: «تو و همهٔ کسانی‌که با تو هستند به نزد ما بازگردید.»

¹⁵So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.

¹⁵ پس پادشاه رهسپار اورشلیم شد و وقتی‌که به رود اردن رسید، همهٔ مردم یهودا به استقبال او به جلجال آمدند تا پادشاه را در عبور از رود اردن همراهی کنند.

¹⁶Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hurried and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.

¹⁶ شمعی، پسر جیرای بنیامینی هم با عجله از بحوریم آمد و همراه مردم یهودا به استقبال او شتافت.

¹⁷There were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.

¹⁷ با او یک‌هزار بنیامینی با صیبا، خادم شائول و پانزده پسر و بیست نفر خدمتکار او بودند و پیش از داوود به رود اردن رسیدند.

¹⁸A ferry boat went to bring over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he had come over the Jordan.

¹⁸ آنها از رودخانه گذشتند تا خاندان پادشاه را به این سوی رودخانه بیاورند و هر آنچه خواست پادشاه است انجام دهند. وقتی پادشاه از رود عبور کرد، شمعی پسر جیر به پیش پای پادشاه افتاد

¹⁹He said to the king, “Don’t let my lord impute iniquity to me, nor remember that which your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.

¹⁹ و گفت: «امیدوارم که سرورم گناهی را که کرده‌ام و خطای بزرگی را که در روز رفتن ایشان از اورشلیم از من سر زد فراموش کرده و مرا بخشیده باشند.

²⁰For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore behold, I have come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.”

²⁰ زیرا خودم خوب می‌دانم که چه گناهی کرده‌ام و به همین خاطر قبل از همهٔ خاندان یوسف به استقبال پادشاه آمدم.»

²¹But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, “Shall Shimei not be put to death for this, because he cursed Yahweh’s anointed?”

²¹ ابیشای پسر صرویه گفت: «آیا شمعی که پادشاه برگزیدهٔ خداوند را دشنام داد، نباید کشته شود؟»

²²David said, “What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should this day be adversaries to me? Shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? For don’t I know that I am this day king over Israel?”

²² داوود به پسران صرویه، ابیشای و یوآب گفت: «کسی نظر شما را نپرسید. آیا می‌خواهید مشکل ایجاد کنید؟ امروز روز کشتن نیست، بلکه روزی است که باید جشن بگیریم، زیرا من دوباره پادشاه اسرائیل شدم.»

²³The king said to Shimei, “You shall not die.” The king swore to him.

²³ بعد پادشاه به شمعی گفت: «سوگند یاد می‌کنم که تو کشته نخواهی شد.»

²⁴Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither groomed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.

²⁴ بعد مفیبوشت، پسر شائول از اورشلیم به دیدن پادشاه آمد. از روزی که پادشاه اورشلیم را ترک کرد، مفیبوشت دیگر پاها و لباس خود را نشست و ریش خود را کوتاه نکرد. پادشاه به او گفت: «چرا با من نیامدی؟»

²⁵It happened, when he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said to him, “Why didn’t you go with me, Mephibosheth?”

²⁵ مفیبوشت جواب داد: «ای پادشاه! خادم من مرا فریب داد. من به او گفتم که الاغ مرا پالان کن، چون می‌خواهم بر آن سوار شوم و همراه پادشاه بروم. شما می‌دانید که من از دو پا لنگ هستم.

²⁶He answered, “My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said, I will saddle me a donkey, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because your servant is lame.

²⁶ و او به من تهمت زد که من نخواستم همراه پادشاه بروم. من می‌دانم که پادشاه همچون فرشتهٔ خداوند است و بنابراین هرچه میل دارید بکنید.

²⁷He has slandered your servant to my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Do therefore what is good in your eyes.

²⁷ تمام خاندان ما باور نمی‌کردند که شما ما را زنده بگذارید، امّا برعکس شما، مرا از بین همهٔ کسانی‌که با شما به سر یک میز نان می‌خوردند زیادتر افتخار بخشیدی. من هیچ گِله و شکایتی ندارم.»

²⁸For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet you set your servant among those who ate at your own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more to the king?”

²⁸ پادشاه گفت: «دیگر حرف نزن. من تصمیم گرفتم که تو و صیبا زمین را بین خود تقسیم کنید.»

²⁹The king said to him, “Why do you speak any more of your matters? I say, you and Ziba divide the land.”

²⁹ مفیبوشت گفت: «همهٔ زمین از آن صیبا باشد. چون حالا پادشاه به سلامتی برگشته است همین برای من کافی است.»

³⁰Mephibosheth said to the king, “Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house.”

³⁰ برزلائی که از داوود و سپاه او در محنایم پذیرایی کرده بود، از روجلیم آمد تا پادشاه را در عبور از رود اردن بدرقه کند.

³¹Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.

³¹ او شخص سالخورده و ثروتمندی بود که هشتاد سال عمر داشت.

³²Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even eighty years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.

³² پادشاه به او گفت: «همراه من به اورشلیم بیا. در آنجا زندگی کن و من همهٔ وسایل زندگی تو را فراهم می‌کنم.»

³³The king said to Barzillai, “Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem.”

³³ امّا برزلائی به پادشاه گفت: «سالهای زیادی از عمر من باقی نمانده است که به اورشلیم بروم.

³⁴Barzillai said to the king, “How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?

³⁴ من پیرمردی هشتاد ساله هستم. و هیچ چیز برایم لذّت بخش نیست. مزهٔ آنچه را که می‌خورم و می‌نوشم، نمی‌توانم بفهمم. صدای آواز خوانندهٔ مرد یا زن را نمی‌توانم بشنوم. پس چرا با رفتن خود مشکل دیگری بر مشکلات پادشاه بیافزایم؟

³⁵I am this day eighty years old. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be yet a burden to my lord the king?

³⁵ برای من همین افتخار کافی است که با پادشاه از رود عبور کنم! بعد اجازه می‌خواهم که به سرزمین خود بازگردم

³⁶Your servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king repay me with such a reward?

³⁶ و در همان جایی که پدر و مادرم دفن شده‌اند، بمیرم. امّا پسرم کمهام اینجا در خدمت پادشاه است. اجازه بدهید که با شما بیاید و هر خوبی که در حق او بکنید در حقیقت، در حق من کرده‌اید.»

³⁷Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you.”

³⁷ پادشاه گفت: «بسیار خوب، کمهام با من بیاید و هرچه که تو بخواهی برای او انجام می‌دهم.»

³⁸The king answered, “Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good to you. Whatever you require of me, that I will do for you.”

³⁸ پس همگی از رودخانه گذشتند. وقتی‌که پادشاه به آن طرف رود رسید برزلائی را بوسید و برکتش داد و برزلائی به خانهٔ خود برگشت.

³⁹All the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over. Then the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.

³⁹ پادشاه به جلجال رفت و کمهام را هم با خود برد. تمام مردم یهودا و نیمی از مردم اسرائیل در آنجا حاضر بودند و همراه او رفتند.

⁴⁰So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him. All the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.

⁴⁰ بعد همهٔ مردان اسرائیل جمع شده به حضور او برای شکایت آمدند و به او گفتند که چرا تنها مردان یهودا پادشاه و خانواده‌اش را در عبور از رود همراهی کردند؟

⁴¹Behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, “Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David’s men with him?”

⁴¹ مردم یهودا در جواب گفتند: «به‌خاطر اینکه پادشاه از طایفهٔ خود ماست. دلیلی ندارد که شما حسادت کنید. ما از او چیزی نگرفته‌ایم و او به ما انعامی نداده است.» مردم اسرائیل گفتند: «در اسرائیل ده طایفهٔ دیگر هست، بنابراین ما ده برابر بیشتر از شما به گردن پادشاه حق داریم. پس چرا سایر طایفه‌‌ها را در آوردن پادشاه دعوت نکردید؟ به‌خاطر داشته باشید که ما اولین کسانی بودیم که پیشنهاد کردیم او را دوباره بیاوریم تا پادشاه ما باشد.» امّا مردم یهودا در ادّعای خود خشن‌تر از مردم اسرائیل بودند.

⁴²All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s cost? Or has he given us any gift?”

⁴² مردم اسرائیل گفتند: «در اسرائیل ده طایفهٔ دیگر هست، بنابراین ما ده برابر بیشتر از شما به گردن پادشاه حق داریم. پس چرا سایر طایفه‌‌ها را در آوردن پادشاه دعوت نکردید؟ به‌خاطر داشته باشید که ما اولین کسانی بودیم که پیشنهاد کردیم او را دوباره بیاوریم تا پادشاه ما باشد.» امّا مردم یهودا در ادّعای خود خشن‌تر از مردم اسرائیل بودند.

⁴³The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, “We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.
