¹There happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, “We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel!”

¹ مرد فرومایه‌ای به‌ نام شبع فرزند بکری و از طایفهٔ بنیامین در جلجال بود. او شیپور خود را به صدا درآورد و فریاد زد: «ما داوود را نمی‌خواهیم. او پادشاه ما نیست. ای مردم اسرائیل به خانه‌های خود بازگردید.»

²So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah joined with their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

² پس تمام قوم اسرائیل داوود را ترک کرده به دنبال شبع رفتند. امّا مردم یهودا با پادشاه ماندند و او را از رود اردن تا اورشلیم همراهی کردند.

³David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in custody, and provided them with sustenance, but didn’t go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.

³ وقتی داوود به کاخ خود در اورشلیم وارد شد، دستور داد که ده صیغه‌ای را که مأمور نگهبانی خانه‌اش بودند، در یک خانه تحت مراقبت نگه ‌دارند و احتیاجات ایشان را تهیّه کنند. ولی دیگر با آنها همبستر نشد و تا روز مرگ ایشان مانند زنان بیوه در آن خانه محبوس ماندند.

⁴Then the king said to Amasa, “Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be here present.”

⁴ پادشاه به عماسا دستور داده گفت: «مردان اسرائیل را گردهم بیاور و تا پس فردا با آنها نزد من بیا.»

⁵So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together; but he stayed longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

⁵ عماسا رفت تا سپاه را جمع کند، امّا کار جمع‌آوری بیش از سه روز طول کشید.

⁶David said to Abishai, “Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your lord’s servants, and pursue after him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.”

⁶ داوود به ابیشای گفت: «شبع ممکن است بیشتر از ابشالوم به ما زیان برساند. فوراً چند نفر از محافظین مرا با خود بردار و به تعقیب او برو و پیش از آنکه داخل شهر دیوارداری شود و موجب درد سر و گرفتاری ما گردد خود را به او برسان.»

⁷There went out after him Joab’s men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

⁷ پس ابیشای و یوآب همراه با چند نفر از محافظین پادشاه و عدّه‌ای از دلاوران از اورشلیم به تعقیب شبع رفتند.

⁸When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was clothed in his apparel of war that he had put on, and on it was a sash with a sword fastened on his waist in its sheath; and as he went forth it fell out.

⁸ وقتی به سنگ بزرگی که در جبعون است رسیدند، عماسا به استقبال ایشان آمد. یوآب درحالی‌که لباس سربازی به تن و خنجر در غلاف به کمر بسته بود به طرف عماسا قدم برداشت. در همین وقت خنجر او از غلاف به زمین افتاد.

⁹Joab said to Amasa, “Is it well with you, my brother?” Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

⁹ یوآب به عماسا گفت: «برادر، چطوری؟» این را گفت و با دست راست خود ریش او را گرفت که ببوسد،

¹⁰But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab’s hand. So he struck him with it in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and didn’t strike him again; and he died. Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

¹⁰ امّا عماسا متوجّه خنجری که در دست دیگر یوآب بود نشد. یوآب خنجر را در شکم او فرو برد و روده‌هایش به زمین ریخت. عماسا با همان ضربهٔ اول جان داد. بعد یوآب و برادرش، ابیشای به تعقیب شبع پسر بکری رفتند.

¹¹There stood by him one of Joab’s young men, and said, “He who favors Joab, and he who is for David, let him follow Joab!”

¹¹ یکی از مردان یوآب، کنار جسد عماسا ایستاد و فریاد زد: «هر که طرفدار داوود و یوآب است به دنبال یوآب بیاید.»

¹²Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. When the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.

¹² عماسا غرق در خون، در سر راه افتاده بود. وقتی یکی از مردان یوآب دید که جمعیّتی به دور جسد او ایستاده‌اند و تماشا می‌کنند، عماسا را از سر راه برداشته در صحرا انداخت و جنازهٔ او را با روی‌اندازی پوشاند.

¹³When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

¹³ وقتی جسد عماسا از سر راه برداشته شد، همگی به دنبال یوآب برای دستگیری شبع رفتند.

¹⁴He went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, and to Beth Maacah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.

¹⁴ شبع از تمام طایفه‌های اسرائیل گذشت و به آبل بیت معکه آمد. همهٔ مردم خاندان بکری در شهر آبل بیت معکه جمع شده از او پیروی کردند.

¹⁵They came and besieged him in Abel of Beth Maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people who were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.

¹⁵ سربازان یوآب به آبل رسیده آن را محاصره و تصرّف کردند. بعد پشته‌ای در برابر شهر ساختند و از بالای آن به خراب کردن دیوارها پرداختند.

¹⁶Then a wise woman cried out of the city, “Hear, hear! Please say to Joab, ‘Come near here, that I may speak with you.’”

¹⁶ آنگاه زن دانایی از بالای دیوار شهر، یوآب را صدا کرده گفت: «به یوآب بگویید که پیش من بیاید تا با او حرف بزنم.»

¹⁷He came near to her; and the woman said, “Are you Joab?” He answered, “I am.” Then she said to him, “Hear the words of your handmaid.” He answered, “I do hear.”

¹⁷ یوآب پیش آن زن رفت و زن از او پرسید: «تو یوآب هستی؟» او جواب داد: «بله.» زن به او گفت: «به حرف کنیزت گوش بده.» یوآب گفت: «گوش می‌دهم.»

¹⁸Then she spoke, saying, “They were used to say in old times, ‘They shall surely ask counsel at Abel;’ and so they settled it.

¹⁸ زن گفت: «در قدیم می‌گفتند: اگر مشکلی دارید 'برای حل آن به شهر آبل بروید.' زیرا در آنجا هر مشکلی حل و فصل می‌شد.

¹⁹I am among those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up the inheritance of Yahweh?”

¹⁹ من یکی از اشخاص صلح جو و ایماندار در اسرائیل هستم. تو می‌خواهی شهری را که مادر شهرهای اسرائیل است خراب کنی؟ چرا چیزی که متعلّق به خداوند است از بین می‌بری؟»

²⁰Joab answered, “Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.

²⁰ یوآب جواب داد: «خدا نکند که من آن را نابود یا خراب کنم.

²¹The matter is not so. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city.” The woman said to Joab, “Behold, his head shall be thrown to you over the wall.”

²¹ امّا در اینجا شخصی است به نام شبع پسر بکری، از کوهستان افرایم. او در مقابل داوود پادشاه دست به شورش زده است. ما فقط او را می‌خواهیم که تسلیم شود و آن وقت ما همه از اینجا می‌رویم.» زن گفت: «بسیار خوب، ما سر او را از آن طرف دیوار برایت می‌اندازیم.»

²²Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.

²² آنگاه زن با پیشنهاد حکیمانهٔ خود پیش مردم رفت و آنها سر شبع را بریدند و برای یوآب انداختند. بعد یوآب شیپور نواخت و مردان، شهر را ترک کردند و به خانه‌های خود بازگشتند و یوآب به اورشلیم نزد پادشاه رفت.

²³Now Joab was over all the army of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;

²³ اکنون یوآب فرماندهٔ کلّ ارتش اسرائیل بود و بنایاهو، پسر یهویاداع سرفرماندهی لشکر محافظین دربار را به عهده داشت.

²⁴and Adoram was over the men subject to forced labor; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;

²⁴ ادورام مسئول کارگران اجباری، یهوشافاط، پسر اخیلود وزیر اطّلاعات،

²⁵and Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

²⁵ شیوا منشی و صادوق و ابیاتار کاهن بودند. عیرای یاییری هم کاهن شخصی داوود بود.

²⁶and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.

²⁶ عیرای یاییری هم کاهن شخصی داوود بود.
