¹In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head on his bed: then he wrote the dream and told the sum of the matters.

¹ در سال اول سلطنت بلشصر پادشاه بابل، دانیال بر بستر خود خوابی دید که آن را به این شکل نوشت:

²Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the sky broke forth on the great sea.

² در خواب دریای وسیعی دیدم که در اثر وزش باد از هر طرف متلاطم بود.

³Four great animals came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

³ بعد چهار حیوان عجیب و عظیم از دریا بیرون آمدند که همه با هم فرق داشتند.

⁴The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I saw until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made to stand on two feet as a man; and a man’s heart was given to it.

⁴ اولی شبیه شیر بود، امّا مانند عقاب بال داشت. درحالی‌که به آن نگاه می‌کردم، دیدم که بالهایش کنده شد، سپس بلند شد و مثل انسان روی دو پای خود ایستاد. سپس به این حیوان عقل انسان داده شد.

⁵Behold, another animal, a second, like a bear; and it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth: and they said thus to it, Arise, devour much flesh.

⁵ حیوان دومی همانند خرس بود و روی پاهای خود ایستاده آمادهٔ حمله شد. در بین دندانهایش سه دنده دیدم و صدایی شنیدم که به آن حیوان می‌گفت: «برخیز و تا می‌توانی گوشت بخور!»

⁶After this I saw, and behold, another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird; the animal had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

⁶ حیوان سومی به شکل پلنگ بود. او بر پشت خود چهار بال همچون بال پرنده داشت و دارای چهار سر بود. به این حیوان اختیار و قدرت فرمانروایی داده شد.

⁷After this I saw in the night visions, and, behold, a fourth animal, awesome and powerful, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet: and it was diverse from all the animals that were before it; and it had ten horns.

⁷ بعد در خواب حیوان چهارم را دیدم که خیلی ترسناک و قوی بود. این حیوان با دندانهای بزرگ و آهنین، قربانیان خود را می‌درید و می‌خورد، سپس مابقی را در زیر پاهای خود لگدمال می‌کرد. این حیوان با سه حیوان دیگر فرق داشت و دارای ده شاخ بود.

⁸I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots: and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.

⁸ درحالی‌که به شاخهایش نگاه می‌کردم، دیدم یک شاخ کوچک از بین شاخها پیدا شد و سه شاخ اول را از بیخ کند. این شاخ کوچک چشمانی مثل چشمان انسان داشت و از دهانش سخنان تکّبرآمیز جاری بود.

⁹I saw until thrones were placed, and one who was ancient of days sat: his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels burning fire.

⁹ آنگاه تختهایی را دیدم که در جاهای خود قرار داده شدند و «موجود ازلی» بر تخت خود جلوس کرد. لباس او همچون برف، سفید و موهای سرش مانند پشمِ خالص بود. از تخت او شعله‌های آتش برمی‌خاست و چرخهای آن، آتش سوزان بود.

¹⁰A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousands of thousands ministered to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

¹⁰ رودی از آتش در برابر او جاری بود. هزاران نفر او را خدمت می‌کردند و میلیونها نفر در حضور او ایستاده بودند. آنگاه دفترها برای داوری گشوده شدند.

¹¹I saw at that time because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke; I saw even until the animal was slain, and its body destroyed, and it was given to be burned with fire.

¹¹ بعد آن حیوان چهارم را دیدم که کشته شد و جسدش در آتش سوخته گردید، زیرا شاخ کوچک این حیوان هنوز هم سخنان تکبّرآمیز می‌گفت.

¹²As for the rest of the animals, their dominion was taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.

¹² قدرت سه حیوان دیگر از آنها گرفته شد امّا اجازه داشتند که تا مدّتی به زندگی خود ادامه بدهند.

¹³I saw in the night visions, and behold, there came with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man, and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

¹³ در خواب موجودی را دیدم که شبیه انسان بود. او بر ابرهای آسمان آمد و به حضور موجود ازلی رفت.

¹⁴There was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

¹⁴ به او اختیار و جلال و قدرتِ سلطنت داده شد تا همهٔ اقوام از هر زبان و نژاد او را خدمت نمایند. قدرت او ابدی و سلطنتش بی‌زوال است.

¹⁵As for me, Daniel, my spirit was grieved in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

¹⁵ من دانیال، از دیدن آن رؤیاها گیج و مبهوت شدم.

¹⁶I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.

¹⁶ پس نزد یکی از کسانی‌که پهلوی تخت نشسته بودند، رفتم و تفسیر آن رؤیا را از او پرسیدم. او چنین شرح داد:

¹⁷These great animals, which are four, are four kings, who shall arise out of the earth.

¹⁷ «آن چهار حیوان بزرگ، چهار پادشاه هستند که بر زمین ظهور می‌کنند،

¹⁸But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.

¹⁸ امّا مقدّسین خدای متعال، قدرت سلطنت را تا ابد به دست خواهند گرفت.»

¹⁹Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth animal, which was diverse from all of them, exceedingly terrible, whose teeth were of iron, and its nails of brass; which devoured, broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet;

¹⁹ بعد دربارهٔ حیوان چهارم که ترسناک و دارای دندانهای آهنین و پنجه‌های برنزی بود و با سه حیوان دیگر فرق داشت و قربانیان خود را می‌درید و می‌خورد و زیر پا لگدمال می‌کرد، از او پرسیدم.

²⁰and concerning the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, and before which three fell, even that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spoke great things, whose look was more stout than its fellows.

²⁰ همچنین دربارهٔ آن ده شاخ و شاخ کوچکی که بعداً ظاهر شد و سه تا از آن ده شاخ که از بیخ کنده شدند، سؤال کردم. آن شاخ کوچک همان شاخی بود که چشم داشت و از دهانش سخنان تکّبرآمیز جاری بود و از شاخهای دیگر هولناک‌تر بود.

²¹I saw, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

²¹ درحالی‌که نگاه می‌کردم دیدم که آن شاخ با مقدّسین خدا جنگید و بر آنها پیروز شد.

²²until the ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High, and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

²² آنگاه «موجود ازلی» آمد و داوری را شروع کرده از مقدّسین خدای متعال حمایت نمود و زمانی رسید که قدرت سلطنت را به آنها سپرد.

²³Thus he said, The fourth animal shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be diverse from all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

²³ او برای من چنین شرح داد: «حیوان چهارم سلطنت چهارم بر زمین است. این سلطنت با سلطنت‌های دیگر فرق دارد. تمام دنیا را پاره‌پاره نموده، در زیر پاهای خود لگدمال می‌کند.

²⁴As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom shall ten kings arise: and another shall arise after them; and he shall be diverse from the former, and he shall put down three kings.

²⁴ ده شاخ او ده پادشاه هستند که از همین سلطنت ظهور می‌کنند. بعد پادشاه دیگری به سلطنت می‌رسد که با سه پادشاه دیگر فرق دارد و آنها را شکست می‌دهد.

²⁵He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High; and he shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and half a time.

²⁵ او برضد خدای متعال سخن می‌گوید، بر مقدّسین ظلم می‌کند و می‌کوشد که تمام قوانین و جشن‌های مذهبی را تغییر بدهد. مقدّسین خدا مدّت سه سال و نیم تحت تسلّط او خواهند بود.

²⁶But the judgment shall be set, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it to the end.

²⁶ سپس زمان داوری آغاز می‌گردد و سلطنت این پادشاه از او گرفته می‌شود و بکلّی از بین می‌رود.

²⁷The kingdom and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole sky, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High: his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

²⁷ آنگاه قدرت و عظمت تمام سلطنت‌ها به مقدّسین خدای متعال سپرده می‌شود. سلطنت خدای متعال ابدی بوده، تمام پادشاهان جهان او را پرستش و از او اطاعت می‌کنند.» این بود خوابی که دیدم و وقتی بیدار شدم، بسیار پریشان بودم. از ترس رنگ از چهره‌ام پریده بود، ولی از خوابم به کسی چیزی نگفتم.

²⁸Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts much troubled me, and my face was changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.

²⁸ این بود خوابی که دیدم و وقتی بیدار شدم، بسیار پریشان بودم. از ترس رنگ از چهره‌ام پریده بود، ولی از خوابم به کسی چیزی نگفتم.
