¹When Yahweh your God shall bring you into the land where you go to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before you, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than you;

¹ «هنگامی‌که خداوند خدایتان، شما را به سرزمینی که به آن وارد می‌شوید تا آن را تصاحب کنید، بیاورد و ملّتهایی چون حِتّی‌ها، جَرجاشی‌ها، اموری‌ها، کنعانی‌ها، فرِزی‌ها، حوی‌ها و یبوسی‌ها را که از شما بزرگتر و نیرومندترند، از سر راه شما دور کند،

²and when Yahweh your God shall deliver them up before you, and you shall strike them; then you shall utterly destroy them: you shall make no covenant with them, nor show mercy to them;

² و هنگامی‌که خداوند خدایتان آنها را به دست شما تسلیم و مغلوب سازد، شما باید آنها را بکلّی از بین ببرید. با آنها پیمان نبندید و به آنها ترحّم نکنید.

³neither shall you make marriages with them; your daughter you shall not give to his son, nor shall you take his daughter for your son.

³ با آنها ازدواج نکنید و نگذارید فرزندانتان با پسران و دختران ایشان ازدواج کنند،

⁴For he will turn away your son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so the anger of Yahweh would be kindled against you, and he would destroy you quickly.

⁴ زیرا آنها فرزندان شما را از خداوند دور می‌کنند تا خدایان آنها را پرستش کنند. آنگاه خشم خداوند علیه شما برافروخته خواهد شد و شما را به سرعت نابود خواهد کرد.

⁵But you shall deal with them like this: you shall break down their altars, and dash their pillars in pieces, and cut down their Asherim, and burn their engraved images with fire.

⁵ پس باید با آنها چنین رفتار کنید: قربانگاههایشان را ویران کنید، ستونهای آنها را بشکنید، شمایل الههٔ اشره را از بین ببرید و بُتهای آنها را در آتش بسوزانید.

⁶For you are a holy people to Yahweh your God: Yahweh your God has chosen you to be a people for his own possession, above all peoples who are on the face of the earth.

⁶ زیرا شما در نزد خداوند یک قوم مقدّس هستید و خداوند خدایتان شما را از بین تمام اقوام روی زمین برگزید تا قوم خاص او باشید.

⁷Yahweh didn’t set his love on you, nor choose you, because you were more in number than any people; for you were the fewest of all peoples:

⁷ «خداوند شما را به‌خاطر جمعیّت زیادتان دوست نداشت و برنگزید زیرا شما کوچکترین قومها بودید؛

⁸but because Yahweh loves you, and because he would keep the oath which he swore to your fathers, has Yahweh brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

⁸ بلکه به‌خاطر این بود که شما را دوست داشت و به قَسَمی که به اجدادتان خورده بود، وفا کرد تا شما را با دست نیرومند خود از اسارت و بندگی نجات بخشد و از دست فرعون، آزاد کند.

⁹Know therefore that Yahweh your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with them who love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations,

⁹ پس باید بدانید که خداوند خدای شما، خدای یگانه است. او خدایی با وفاست که عهد و پیمان خود را نگاه می‌دارد و محبّت پایدار خود را به دوستداران خود و آنهایی که از احکام او پیروی می‌کنند تا هزاران نسل نشان می‌دهد.

¹⁰and repays those who hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him who hates him, he will repay him to his face.

¹⁰ امّا آنهایی را که از او تنفّر دارند، بدون درنگ مجازات خواهد کرد.

¹¹You shall therefore keep the commandment, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which I command you this day, to do them.

¹¹ پس از احکام، قوانین و دستورات او که همه را امروز به شما می‌دهم، به دقّت پیروی کنید.

¹²It shall happen, because you listen to these ordinances, and keep and do them, that Yahweh your God will keep with you the covenant and the loving kindness which he swore to your fathers:

¹² «اگر شما به این احکام توجّه کنید و از آنها به دقّت پیروی نمایید، خداوند خدایتان، محبّت پایدار خود را به شما نشان می‌دهد و به پیمانی که از روی محبّت پایدار با اجداد شما بسته است، وفا می‌کند.

¹³and he will love you, and bless you, and multiply you; he will also bless the fruit of your body and the fruit of your ground, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your livestock and the young of your flock, in the land which he swore to your fathers to give you.

¹³ او شما را دوست می‌دارد، برکتتان می‌دهد و به تعدادتان می‌افزاید. او شما و زمینتان را بارور و پرثمر می‌کند. غلّه، انگور، روغن، گلّه و رمه‌تان را در سرزمینی که به نیاکان شما وعده فرمود برکت می‌دهد و فراوان می‌سازد.

¹⁴You shall be blessed above all peoples: there shall not be male or female barren among you, or among your livestock.

¹⁴ شما خوشبخت‌ترین مردم روی زمین می‌شوید و هیچ یک از شما و حتّی گلّه‌هایتان هم نازا نخواهد بود.

¹⁵Yahweh will take away from you all sickness; and none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which you know, he will put on you, but will lay them on all those who hate you.

¹⁵ خداوند هرگونه مرض را از شما دور می‌کند و نمی‌گذارد به آن امراض هولناکی که در مصر دیده بودید، دچار شوید؛ بلکه کسانی‌که دشمن شما هستند به آن بیماریها مبتلا می‌گردند.

¹⁶You shall consume all the peoples whom Yahweh your God shall deliver to you; your eye shall not pity them: neither shall you serve their gods; for that will be a snare to you.

¹⁶ شما باید تمام اقوامی را که خداوند به دستتان تسلیم می‌کند از بین ببرید. به آنها رحم نکنید، خدایان ایشان را نپرستید، چون در دام خطرناکی گرفتار می‌شوید.

¹⁷If you shall say in your heart, “These nations are more than I; how can I dispossess them?”

¹⁷ «شاید در دلتان بگویید که این قومها از ما بیشترند، چگونه می‌توانیم آنان را اخراج کنیم.

¹⁸you shall not be afraid of them: you shall well remember what Yahweh your God did to Pharaoh, and to all Egypt;

¹⁸ از آنها نترسید. فقط آنچه را که خداوند خدایتان در حق فرعون و مردم مصر کرد به‌خاطر آورید.

¹⁹the great trials which your eyes saw, and the signs, and the wonders, and the mighty hand, and the outstretched arm, by which Yahweh your God brought you out: so shall Yahweh your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

¹⁹ بلاهای وحشتناکی را که بر سر آنها آورد و نشانه‌ها و شگفتی‌هایی را که نشان داد، به چشم خود مشاهده کردید و دیدید که چگونه دست توانای او شما را از سرزمین مصر بیرون آورد. خداوند خدایتان همین رفتار را هم با کسانی می‌کند که شما از آنها می‌ترسید.

²⁰Moreover Yahweh your God will send the hornet among them, until those who are left, and hide themselves, perish from before you.

²⁰ از این گذشته خداوند خدایتان زنبورهایی خواهد فرستاد تا دشمنانی را که فرار کرده‌اند و پنهان شده‌اند، نابود کنند.

²¹You shall not be scared of them; for Yahweh your God is in the midst of you, a great and awesome God.

²¹ از آنها نترسید، زیرا خداوند خدایتان که همراه شماست، خدای بزرگ و با هیبتی است.

²²Yahweh your God will cast out those nations before you by little and little: you may not consume them at once, lest the animals of the field increase on you.

²² خداوند خدای شما، اندک‌اندک این ملّتها را از جلوی راه شما دور خواهد کرد. شما نباید آنها را یک‌‌جا نابود کنید، زیرا در آن صورت تعداد حیوانات وحشی فزونی می‌یابد و شما را تهدید خواهند کرد.

²³But Yahweh your God will deliver them up before you, and will confuse them with a great confusion, until they be destroyed.

²³ امّا خداوند خدایتان آنها را به دست شما تسلیم می‌کند و به وحشت می‌اندازد تا که همگی نابود شوند.

²⁴He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you shall make their name to perish from under the sky: no man shall be able to stand before you, until you have destroyed them.

²⁴ او پادشاهان آنها را به دست شما می‌سپارد و شما نامشان را از صفحهٔ روزگار محو سازید. هیچ‌کس قادر نخواهد بود که در مقابل شما مقاومت کند و شما همهٔ آنها را هلاک می‌کنید.

²⁵You shall burn the engraved images of their gods with fire. You shall not covet the silver or the gold that is on them, nor take it for yourself, lest you be snared in it; for it is an abomination to Yahweh your God.

²⁵ بُتهایشان را در آتش بسوزانید. به نقره و طلایی که این بُتها از آن ساخته شده‌اند، طمع نکنید و آن را برای خود نگیرید چون به دام می‌افتید، زیرا خداوند خدایتان آن را مکروه می‌داند. بُتها را به خانهٔ خود نیاورید. چون همان لعنتی که بر آنهاست، بر شما خواهد بود. از بُتها متنفّر و بیزار باشید چون لعنت خداوند بر آنهاست.

²⁶You shall not bring an abomination into your house, and become a devoted thing like it. You shall utterly detest it, and you shall utterly abhor it; for it is a devoted thing.

²⁶ بُتها را به خانهٔ خود نیاورید. چون همان لعنتی که بر آنهاست، بر شما خواهد بود. از بُتها متنفّر و بیزار باشید چون لعنت خداوند بر آنهاست.
