¹Hear, Israel: you are to pass over the Jordan this day, to go in to dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourself, cities great and fortified up to the sky,

¹ «ای قوم اسرائیل بشنوید! شما امروز باید از رود اردن عبور کنید تا سرزمین آن طرف دریا را تصرّف کنید. مردمی که در آنجا زندگی می‌کنند بزرگتر و قویتر از شما هستند و شهرهای مستحکم و سر به فلک کشیده دارند.

²a people great and tall, the sons of the Anakim, whom you know, and of whom you have heard say, “Who can stand before the sons of Anak?”

² آنها مردمی قد بلند و قوی هستند، آنها غولند و شما شنیده‌اید که می‌گویند کیست که بتواند در برابر فرزندان عناق مقاومت کند.

³Know therefore this day, that Yahweh your God is he who goes over before you as a devouring fire; he will destroy them, and he will bring them down before you: so you shall drive them out, and make them to perish quickly, as Yahweh has spoken to you.

³ بدانید امروز خداوند خدایتان پیش از شما مانند آتش سوزند‌ه‌ای به آنجا وارد می‌شود و آنها را نابود می‌کند و در مقابل شما تسلیم می‌سازد تا شما طبق وعدهٔ خداوند آنها را بیرون کنید و به سرعت نابود سازید.

⁴Don’t say in your heart, after Yahweh your God has thrust them out from before you, saying, “For my righteousness Yahweh has brought me in to possess this land”; because Yahweh drives them out before you because of the wickedness of these nations.

⁴ «وقتی خداوند خدایتان آنها را از سر راهتان دور کرد، نگویید: 'چون ما مردمی نیک هستیم، خداوند ما را به اینجا آورد تا آن را تصرّف کنیم.' بلکه به سبب شرارت ساکنان آنجا بود که خداوند آنها را از آنجا بیرون راند.

⁵Not for your righteousness, or for the uprightness of your heart, do you go in to possess their land; but for the wickedness of these nations Yahweh your God does drive them out from before you, and that he may establish the word which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

⁵ به‌خاطر عدالت و پاکی شما نیست که شما این سرزمین را تصرّف خواهید کرد، بلکه به دلیل شرارت این اقوام است که خداوند آنها را از پیش شما بیرون می‌کند تا وعد‌ه‌ای را که خداوند به نیاکان شما، یعنی ابراهیم، اسحاق و یعقوب داده است، عملی سازد.

⁶Know therefore, that Yahweh your God doesn’t give you this good land to possess it for your righteousness; for you are a stiff-necked people.

⁶ باز می‌گویم که خداوند خدایتان به‌خاطر اینکه شما مردم نیكی هستید، این سرزمین حاصلخیز را به شما نمی‌دهد. شما برعکس قوم سرکشی هستید.

⁷Remember, don’t forget, how you provoked Yahweh your God to wrath in the wilderness: from the day that you went forth out of the land of Egypt, until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against Yahweh.

⁷ «به‌خاطر داشته باشید و فراموش نکنید که چطور آتشِ خشم خداوند خدایتان را در بیابان برافروختید. از همان روزی که شما از سرزمین مصر خارج شدید و به این سرزمین آمدید، بارها در مقابل خداوند سرکشی کرده‌اید.

⁸Also in Horeb you provoked Yahweh to wrath, and Yahweh was angry with you to destroy you.

⁸ حتّی در کوه سینا هم او را به حدّی خشمگین ساختید که می‌خواست شما را از بین ببرد.

⁹When I was gone up onto the mountain to receive the tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant which Yahweh made with you, then I stayed on the mountain forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water.

⁹ هنگامی‌که به بالای کوه رفتم تا لوح‌های سنگی، یعنی لوح‌های پیمانی را که خداوند با شما بست بگیرم، مدّت چهل شبانه‌روز گرسنه و تشنه در آنجا ماندم.

¹⁰Yahweh delivered to me the two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them were all the words which Yahweh spoke with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

¹⁰ خداوند، دو لوح سنگی را که با انگشت خود نوشته شده بود، به من داد و بر آنها تمام سخنانی که خداوند در روز اجتماع، در کوه از میان آتش به شما گفته بود، نوشته بود.

¹¹It came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that Yahweh gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of the covenant.

¹¹ خداوند بعد از چهل شبانه‌روز، این دو لوح سنگی یعنی لوح‌های پیمان را به من داد.

¹²Yahweh said to me, “Arise, get down quickly from here; for your people whom you have brought out of Egypt have corrupted themselves; they have quickly turned aside out of the way which I commanded them; they have made them a molten image.”

¹² «بعد خداوند به من فرمود: 'فوراً برخیز و پایین برو، زیرا آن مردمی را که از سرزمین مصر آوردی، همه فاسد شده‌اند. به سرعت از راهی که من به آنها نشان داده بودم، منحرف شده و برای خود بُتی ساخته‌اند.'

¹³Furthermore Yahweh spoke to me, saying, “I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff-necked people:

¹³ «خداوند چنین فرمود: 'این قوم واقعاً مردمی سرکش هستند.

¹⁴let me alone, that I may destroy them, and blot out their name from under the sky; and I will make of you a nation mightier and greater than they.”

¹⁴ پس مرا بگذار که آنها را از بین ببرم و نامشان را از صفحهٔ روزگار محو کنم. آنگاه برای تو قومی قویتر و بزرگتر از آنها به وجود می‌آورم.'

¹⁵So I turned and came down from the mountain, and the mountain was burning with fire: and the two tables of the covenant were in my two hands.

¹⁵ «درحالی‌که کوه شعله‌ور بود، من دو لوح پیمان خداوند را در دست داشتم و از کوه پایین آمدم.

¹⁶I looked, and behold, you had sinned against Yahweh your God; you had made yourselves a molten calf: you had turned aside quickly out of the way which Yahweh had commanded you.

¹⁶ آنگاه وقتی بت گوساله‌ای را که ساخته بودید دیدم، دانستم که شما به راستی در مقابل خداوند گناه ورزیده‌اید و خیلی زود از احکام خداوند سرپیچی کرده‌اید.

¹⁷I took hold of the two tables, and cast them out of my two hands, and broke them before your eyes.

¹⁷ من لوح‌هایی را که در دست داشتم در برابر چشمانتان بر زمین زده شکستم.

¹⁸I fell down before Yahweh, as at the first, forty days and forty nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water; because of all your sin which you sinned, in doing that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, to provoke him to anger.

¹⁸ بار دیگر مدّت چهل شبانه‌روز در حضور خداوند رو به خاک افتادم. نه نان خوردم و نه یک قطره آب نوشیدم. زیرا به‌خاطر گناه شما و کارهای زشتی که کرده بودید، خداوند را به خشم آوردید.

¹⁹For I was afraid of the anger and hot displeasure, with which Yahweh was angry against you to destroy you. But Yahweh listened to me that time also.

¹⁹ من می‌ترسیدم که خداوند از شدّت خشم، شما را نابود سازد، امّا خداوند بار دیگر دعایم را قبول کرد.

²⁰Yahweh was very angry with Aaron to destroy him: and I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.

²⁰ خداوند چنان بر هارون هم خشمگین شد که می‌خواست او را هلاک کند، امّا من شفاعت او را نیز کردم.

²¹I took your sin, the calf which you had made, and burnt it with fire, and stamped it, grinding it very small, until it was as fine as dust: and I cast its dust into the brook that descended out of the mountain.

²¹ بعد گوساله‌ای‌ را که شما ساخته بودید در آتش سوزاندم و آن را خُرد کرده خوب ساییدم تا مانند غبار نرم شد و آن را در نهری که از کوه جاری بود ریختم.

²²At Taberah, and at Massah, and at Kibroth Hattaavah, you provoked Yahweh to wrath.

²² «در تبعیره، مَسّا، قبروت و هتاوه هم خشم خداوند را برافروختید.

²³When Yahweh sent you from Kadesh Barnea, saying, “Go up and possess the land which I have given you”; then you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God, and you didn’t believe him, nor listen to his voice.

²³ وقتی‌که خداوند در قادش برنیع به شما گفت: 'به سرزمینی که به شما داده‌ام بروید و آن را تصاحب کنید،' شما امر خداوند خدایتان را بجا نیاوردید؛ به او اعتماد ننموده، و از او اطاعت نکردید.

²⁴You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day that I knew you.

²⁴ از روزی که شما را می‌شناسم، علیه خداوند سرکشی کرده‌اید.

²⁵So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and forty nights that I fell down, because Yahweh had said he would destroy you.

²⁵ «چون خداوند می‌خواست شما را از بین ببرد، من مدّت چهل شبانه‌روز در حضور او به خاک افتادم

²⁶I prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Lord Yahweh, don’t destroy your people and your inheritance, that you have redeemed through your greatness, that you have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.

²⁶ و به درگاه او دعا کردم و گفتم: 'ای خداوند، خدای من، این مردم را که قوم تو هستند با قدرت عظیمت از مصر نجات دادی.

²⁷Remember your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; don’t look to the stubbornness of this people, nor to their wickedness, nor to their sin,

²⁷ بندگانت ابراهیم، اسحاق و یعقوب را به‌یاد آور و از سرکشی، شرارت و گناه این مردم چشم بپوش،

²⁸lest the land you brought us out from say, ‘Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which he promised to them, and because he hated them, he has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness.’

²⁸ زیرا مردم مصر خواهند گفت: چون خداوند نتوانست آنها را به سرزمینی که وعده داده بود برساند و به‌خاطر اینکه از آنها نفرت داشت آنها را از اینجا بیرون برد تا در بیابان هلاک شوند. امّا این مردم، قوم تو هستند و تو آنها را با قدرت و بازوی توانایت به اینجا آوردی.'

²⁹Yet they are your people and your inheritance, which you brought out by your great power and by your outstretched arm.”

²⁹ امّا این مردم، قوم تو هستند و تو آنها را با قدرت و بازوی توانایت به اینجا آوردی.'
