¹Now it happened on the third day that Esther put on her royal clothing, and stood in the inner court of the king’s house, next to the king’s house. The king sat on his royal throne in the royal house, next to the entrance of the house.

¹ استر سه روز پس از شروع روزه لباس سلطنتی خود را پوشید و به قسمت اندرونی کاخ رفت و در آنجا روبه‌روی اتاق سلطنتی ایستاد. پادشاه داخل اتاق در مقابل در ورودی، برتخت نشسته بود.

²When the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, she obtained favor in his sight; and the king held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. So Esther came near, and touched the top of the scepter.

² وقتی پادشاه استر ملکه را در آنجا ایستاده دید، او را مورد توجّه قرار داد و چوگان طلای خود را به سویش دراز کرد. آنگاه استر جلو رفته نوک چوگان را لمس کرد.

³Then the king asked her, “What would you like, queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you even to the half of the kingdom.”

³ پادشاه پرسید: «ای استر ملکه، چه شده است؟ هرچه بخواهی به تو خواهم داد، حتّی نیمی از حکومت خود را.»

⁴Esther said, “If it seems good to the king, let the king and Haman come today to the banquet that I have prepared for him.”

⁴ استر در پاسخ گفت: «اگر اعلیحضرت مایل باشند، می‌خواهم شما و هامان در مهمانی‌ای که امشب برای شما ترتیب می‌دهم، مهمان من باشید.»

⁵Then the king said, “Bring Haman quickly, so that it may be done as Esther has said.” So the king and Haman came to the banquet that Esther had prepared.

⁵ پادشاه دستور داد هامان فوراً بیاید تا به اتّفاق هم به مهمانی استر بروند. پس پادشاه و هامان به مهمانی‌ای که استر ترتیب داده بود رفتند.

⁶The king said to Esther at the banquet of wine, “What is your petition? It shall be granted you. What is your request? Even to the half of the kingdom it shall be performed.”

⁶ در موقع نوشیدن شراب پادشاه به استر گفت: «به من بگو، چه می‌خواهی؟ حتّی اگر نیمی از حکومت مرا بخواهی، آن را به تو خواهم داد.»

⁷Then Esther answered and said, “My petition and my request is this.

⁷ استر در پاسخ گفت:

⁸If I have found favor in the sight of the king, and if it please the king to grant my petition and to perform my request, let the king and Haman come to the banquet that I will prepare for them, and I will do tomorrow as the king has said.”

⁸ «در خواست و تقاضای من این است: اگر اعلیحضرت محبّت فرمایند، مایلم از شما و هامان دعوت نمایم فردا هم مجدداً مهمان من باشید. آن وقت تقاضای خود را به عرض خواهم رسانید.»

⁹Then Haman went out that day joyful and glad of heart, but when Haman saw Mordecai in the king’s gate, that he didn’t stand up nor move for him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai.

⁹ وقتی هامان مهمانی استر را ترک کرد خوشحال و سرخوش بود. امّا وقتی مردخای را در جلوی در ورودی کاخ دید، از اینکه مردخای به احترام او از جایش بلند نشد و تعظیم نکرد، نسبت به او بسیار خشمگین شد.

¹⁰Nevertheless Haman restrained himself, and went home. There, he sent and called for his friends and Zeresh his wife.

¹⁰ با این حال خونسردی خود را حفظ کرد و به منزل رفت. سپس از دوستان خود دعوت کرد به منزلش بیایند و از زن خود، زرش، نیز خواست در جمع آنها شرکت کند.

¹¹Haman recounted to them the glory of his riches, the multitude of his children, all the things in which the king had promoted him, and how he had advanced him above the princes and servants of the king.

¹¹ آنگاه هامان با غرور از تعداد پسرانش، ارتقاء مقامش به وسیلهٔ پادشاه و از برتری خود بر سایر افسران پادشاه با آنها سخن ‌گفت.

¹²Haman also said, “Yes, Esther the queen let no man come in with the king to the banquet that she had prepared but myself; and tomorrow I am also invited by her together with the king.

¹² همچنین هامان ادامه داده گفت: «استر ملکه از هیچ‌کس جز پادشاه و من برای شرکت در مهمانی خودش دعوت نکرد. او باز هم ما را فردا برای یک مهمانی دیگر دعوت کرده است.

¹³Yet all this avails me nothing, so long as I see Mordecai the Jew sitting at the king’s gate.”

¹³ امّا وقتی آن مردخای یهودی را می‌بینم که نزد در ورودی کاخ می‌نشیند، تمامی این چیزها برایم بی‌ارزش می‌شود.» پس زن و دوستانش به او گفتند: «چرا دستور نمی‌دهی چوبهٔ داری به ارتفاع بیست و سه متر بسازند؟ فردا صبح از پادشاه درخواست کن تا مردخای را بر آن به‌ دار بکشند. سپس می‌توانی با خوشحالی به مهمانی ملکه بروی.» هامان این نقشه را پسندید و دستور داد که چوبهٔ‌دار را بسازند.

¹⁴Then Zeresh his wife and all his friends said to him, “Let a gallows be made fifty cubits high, and in the morning speak to the king about hanging Mordecai on it. Then go in merrily with the king to the banquet.” This pleased Haman, so he had the gallows made.

¹⁴ پس زن و دوستانش به او گفتند: «چرا دستور نمی‌دهی چوبهٔ داری به ارتفاع بیست و سه متر بسازند؟ فردا صبح از پادشاه درخواست کن تا مردخای را بر آن به‌ دار بکشند. سپس می‌توانی با خوشحالی به مهمانی ملکه بروی.» هامان این نقشه را پسندید و دستور داد که چوبهٔ‌دار را بسازند.
