¹Yahweh said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs in their midst,

¹ خداوند به موسی فرمود: «نزد فرعون برو، من فرعون و درباریانش را سرسخت و سنگدل نموده‌ام تا این نشانه را در میان ایشان انجام دهم.

²and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your son’s son, what things I have done to Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know that I am Yahweh.”

² تا آنچه را که من در مصر انجام دادم و نشانه‌هایی را که در میان آنها به عمل آوردم و حماقت مصریان را آشکار کردم برای فرزندان و نوه‌هایت تعریف کنی. و همهٔ شما خواهید دانست که من، خداوند هستم.»

³Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and said to him, “This is what Yahweh, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me.

³ پس موسی و هارون نزد فرعون رفتند و گفتند: «خداوند خدای عبرانیان چنین می‌فرماید: 'تا کی می‌خواهی از تواضع کردن در مقابل من خودداری کنی؟ قوم مرا آزاد کن تا بروند و مرا پرستش کنند.

⁴Or else, if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring locusts into your country,

⁴ اگر از آزاد کردن آنها خودداری کنی، من فردا ملخها را به سرزمین تو خواهم فرستاد.

⁵and they shall cover the surface of the earth, so that one won’t be able to see the earth. They shall eat the residue of that which has escaped, which remains to you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field.

⁵ آنها آن‌قدر زیاد هستند که تمام روی زمین را خواهند پوشانید. و آنچه را که از تگرگ باقیمانده و تمام درختهایی را که در مزارع هستند خواهند خورد.

⁶Your houses shall be filled, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; as neither your fathers nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were on the earth to this day.’” He turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

⁶ قصرهای تو و خانه‌های تمام درباریان و تمام مردمانت پُر از ملخ خواهد شد. آنها از هر آنچه كه نیاکانت دیده‌اند هم بدتر خواهند بود.'» آنها بعد از گفتن این سخنان از نزد فرعون بیرون رفتند.

⁷Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve Yahweh, their God. Don’t you yet know that Egypt is destroyed?”

⁷ درباریان به فرعون گفتند: «تا کی این مرد باید ما را زحمت بدهد؟ مردان بنی‌اسرائیل را آزاد کن تا بروند و خداوند خدای خود را پرستش کنند. مگر نمی‌دانی که سرزمین مصر ویران شده است؟»

⁸Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, “Go, serve Yahweh your God; but who are those who will go?”

⁸ پس موسی و هارون را به نزد فرعون بازگرداندند و فرعون به آنها گفت: «بروید و خداوند خدای خود را پرستش کنید. ولی بگویید بدانم چه کسانی خواهند رفت؟»

⁹Moses said, “We will go with our young and with our old; with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast to Yahweh.”

⁹ موسی در جواب گفت: «همهٔ ما به اتّفاق كودكان و پیران و پسران و دختران خود خواهیم رفت و گوسفندان و بُزها و گاوان خود را هم خواهیم برد. زیرا عیدی داریم که باید به احترام خداوند برگزار کنیم.»

¹⁰He said to them, “Yahweh be with you if I will let you go with your little ones! See, evil is clearly before your faces.

¹⁰ فرعون گفت: «به خداوند سوگند می‌خورم كه هرگز نخواهم گذاشت زنها و كودكان را هم با خود ببرید! روشن است كه نقشهٔ شورش در سر دارید.

¹¹Not so! Go now you who are men, and serve Yahweh; for that is what you desire!” They were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.

¹¹ فقط به مردها اجازه داده می‌شود که بروند و خداوند را پرستش کنند. چون شما همین را خواسته بودید.» پس موسی و هارون را از نزد فرعون بیرون کردند.

¹²Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up on the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail has left.”

¹² خداوند به موسی فرمود: «دست خود را بر سرزمین مصر بلند کن تا ملخها بیایند و هر گیاه سبزی را که روی زمین است و آنچه را که از تگرگ باقیمانده است بخورند.»

¹³Moses stretched out his rod over the land of Egypt, and Yahweh brought an east wind on the land all that day, and all the night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

¹³ موسی عصای خود را بر سرزمین مصر بلند کرد و به دستور خدا باد شدیدی به مدّت یک شبانه‌روز از مشرق به طرف مصر وزید و هنگام صبح باد شرقی ملخها را با خود آورد.

¹⁴The locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt. They were very grievous. Before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

¹⁴ ملخها تمام سرزمین مصر را پوشاندند و همه‌جا را پُر کردند و آن‌قدر زیاد بودند که کسی تا آن وقت مانند آن را ندیده بود و بعد از آن هم نخواهد دید.

¹⁵For they covered the surface of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened, and they ate every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left. There remained nothing green, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

¹⁵ زمین از ملخها سیاه شده بود و ملخها همهٔ میوه‌های درختان و تمام گیاهان سبز را که از تگرگ باقیمانده بود خوردند به طوری که هیچ برگی بر درخت و هیچ علف سبزی در تمام سرزمین مصر نماند.

¹⁶Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and he said, “I have sinned against Yahweh your God, and against you.

¹⁶ فرعون با شتاب موسی و هارون را صدا کرد و به آنها گفت: «من به خداوند خدای شما و به شما گناه کرده‌ام.

¹⁷Now therefore please forgive my sin again, and pray to Yahweh your God, that he may also take away from me this death.”

¹⁷ فقط این دفعه گناه مرا ببخشید و از خدای خود بخواهید تا این بلای مرگ‌آور را از من دور کند.»

¹⁸He went out from Pharaoh, and prayed to Yahweh.

¹⁸ موسی از نزد فرعون بیرون رفت و به درگاه خداوند دعا کرد.

¹⁹Yahweh turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds . There remained not one locust in all the borders of Egypt.

¹⁹ خداوند آن باد شرقی را به یک باد شدید غربی تبدیل کرد. آن باد تمام ملخها را جمع کرد و همه را به دریای سرخ ریخت به طوری که در سراسر مصر حتّی یک ملخ هم باقی نماند.

²⁰But Yahweh hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he didn’t let the children of Israel go.

²⁰ امّا خداوند دل فرعون را سخت کرد و فرعون بنی‌اسرائیل را آزاد نکرد.

²¹Yahweh said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.”

²¹ خداوند به موسی گفت: «دست خود را به طرف آسمان بلند کن تا تاریکی غلیظی که بتوان احساس کرد سرزمین مصر را فرا بگیرد.»

²²Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days.

²² موسی دست خود را به سوی آسمان بلند کرد و تاریکی غلیظی به مدّت سه روز تمام سرزمین مصر را گرفت.

²³They didn’t see one another, neither did anyone rise from his place for three days; but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

²³ مصری‌ها نمی‌توانستند یکدیگر را ببینند و در آن سه روز هیچ‌کس از خانه‌اش بیرون نیامد ولی جایی که بنی‌اسرائیل زندگی می‌کردند روشن بود.

²⁴Pharaoh called to Moses, and said, “Go, serve Yahweh. Only let your flocks and your herds stay behind. Let your little ones also go with you.”

²⁴ فرعون موسی و هارون را صدا کرد و گفت: «همگی شما با زنها و فرزندان خود بروید و خداوند را پرستش کنید. امّا گلّه‌های گوسفند و بُز و گاو شما در همین جا بمانند.»

²⁵Moses said, “You must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice to Yahweh our God.

²⁵ موسی گفت: «پس تو باید گاو و گوسفند برای قربانی و قربانی سوختنی برای ما مهیّا کنی تا برای خداوند خدای خود، قربانی کنیم.

²⁶Our livestock also shall go with us. Not a hoof shall be left behind, for of it we must take to serve Yahweh our God; and we don’t know with what we must serve Yahweh, until we come there.”

²⁶ ولی ما گلّه‌های خود را با خود خواهیم برد و حتّی یکی از آنها را هم جا نخواهیم گذاشت. ما باید حیوانی را که برای پرستش نمودن خداوند خدای خود لازم داریم، خودمان انتخاب کنیم و تا به آنجا نرسیم، نمی‌دانیم کدام‌یک از حیوانات خود را باید برای خداوند قربانی کنیم.»

²⁷But Yahweh hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he wouldn’t let them go.

²⁷ ولی خداوند فرعون را سختدل کرد و او اجازه نداد که آنها بروند.

²⁸Pharaoh said to him, “Get away from me! Be careful to see my face no more; for in the day you see my face you shall die!”

²⁸ فرعون به موسی گفت: «از پیش چشم من دور شو و سعی کن که دیگر مرا نبینی زیرا روزی که مرا ببینی کشته خواهی شد.» موسی گفت: «بسیار خوب، دیگر مرا نخواهی دید.»

²⁹Moses said, “You have spoken well. I will see your face again no more.”

²⁹ موسی گفت: «بسیار خوب، دیگر مرا نخواهی دید.»
