¹They took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

¹ تمام جماعت بنی‌اسرائیل از ایلیم کوچ کردند و در روز پانزدهم ماه دوم بعد از اینکه از مصر خارج شدند، به صحرای سین که بین ایلیم و سیناست، رسیدند.

²The whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron in the wilderness;

² آنجا، در آن بیابان، همگی نزد موسی و هارون شکایت کردند

³and the children of Israel said to them, “We wish that we had died by the hand of Yahweh in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the meat pots, when we ate our fill of bread, for you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.”

³ و گفتند: «ای کاش خداوند ما را در سرزمین مصر می‌کشت. زیرا در آنجا می‌توانستیم در کنار دیگ‌های گوشت بنشینیم و غذای سیری بخوریم. امّا تو ما را به این بیابان آورده‌ای تا از گرسنگی بمیریم.»

⁴Then Yahweh said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from the sky for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law, or not.

⁴ پس خداوند به موسی فرمود: «من برای همهٔ شما از آسمان مثل باران غذا خواهم ریخت. مردم باید هر روز بیرون بروند و به اندازهٔ احتیاج آن روز از آن جمع‌آوری کنند. به این ترتیب من می‌توانم ایشان را امتحان کنم که آیا دستورات مرا انجام می‌دهند، یا خیر.

⁵It shall come to pass on the sixth day, that they shall prepare that which they bring in, and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.”

⁵ آنچه در روز ششم جمع می‌کنند، دو برابر روزهای قبل خواهد بود.»

⁶Moses and Aaron said to all the children of Israel, “At evening, then you shall know that Yahweh has brought you out from the land of Egypt;

⁶ پس موسی و هارون به تمام مردم اسرائیل گفتند: «شما امشب خواهید دانست کسی‌که شما را از سرزمین مصر، بیرون آورده است، خداوند است.

⁷and in the morning, then you shall see the glory of Yahweh; because he hears your murmurings against Yahweh. Who are we, that you murmur against us?”

⁷ هنگام صبح جلال خداوند را خواهید دید. خداوند شکایتهای شما را که برضد او کرده‌اید، شنیده است. زیرا ما چه کسی هستیم که شما از ما شکایت کنید؟»

⁸Moses said, “Now Yahweh shall give you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfy you; because Yahweh hears your murmurings which you murmur against him. And who are we? Your murmurings are not against us, but against Yahweh.”

⁸ سپس موسی گفت: «خداوند، غروبها گوشت و صبح‌ها نان به هر اندازه‌ای که بتوانید بخورید به شما خواهد داد، زیرا خداوند شکایتهایی را که علیه او کرده‌اید شنیده است. وقتی شما برضد ما شكایت می‌كنید در واقع برضد خداوند شكایت می‌كنید.»

⁹Moses said to Aaron, “Tell all the congregation of the children of Israel, ‘Come near before Yahweh, for he has heard your murmurings.’”

⁹ موسی به هارون گفت: «به تمام مردم بگو بیایند و در حضور خداوند بایستند، زیرا که او شکایتهای ایشان را شنیده است.»

¹⁰It happened, as Aaron spoke to the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and behold, the glory of Yahweh appeared in the cloud.

¹⁰ همین که هارون با مردم صحبت کرد آنها به بیابان نگاه کردند و جلال خداوند را که در ابر ظاهر شده بود دیدند.

¹¹Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹¹ خداوند به موسی فرمود:

¹²“I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them, saying, ‘At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread: and you shall know that I am Yahweh your God.’”

¹² «من شکایتهای بنی‌اسرائیل را شنیدم. به آنها بگو غروبها گوشت و صبح‌ها نان به هر اندازه‌ای که بخواهند، خواهند داشت تا بدانند من خداوند خدای ایشان می‌باشم.»

¹³It happened at evening that quail came up and covered the camp; and in the morning the dew lay around the camp.

¹³ هنگام غروب دستهٔ بزرگی از بلدرچین آمد و سرتاسر اردو‌گاه را پوشاند و هنگام صبح شبنم گرداگرد اردو‌گاه را فراگرفت.

¹⁴When the dew that lay had gone, behold, on the surface of the wilderness was a small round thing, small as the frost on the ground.

¹⁴ چون شبنم بخار شد چیزهایی نازک و دانه‌دانه روی سطح بیابان را پوشانده بود که همانند شبنم لطیف بودند.

¹⁵When the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, “What is it?” For they didn’t know what it was. Moses said to them, “It is the bread which Yahweh has given you to eat.”

¹⁵ وقتی بنی‌اسرائیل آنها را دیدند نمی‌دانستند که آنها چه هستند. پس از یکدیگر می‌پرسیدند: «اینها چه هستند؟» موسی به آنها گفت: «این نانی است که خداوند به شما داده است تا بخورید.

¹⁶This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded: “Gather of it everyone according to his eating; an omer An omer is about 2.2 litres or about 2.3 quarts a head, according to the number of your persons, you shall take it, every man for those who are in his tent.”

¹⁶ خداوند دستور داده است که هریک از شما به اندازهٔ احتیاج خود یعنی یک پیمانه دو لیتری برای هر نفر از اعضای خانواده‌اش از اینها جمع کند.»

¹⁷The children of Israel did so, and gathered some more, some less.

¹⁷ بنی‌اسرائیل شروع کردند به جمع کردن؛ بعضی‌ها بیشتر و بعضی‌ها کمتر.

¹⁸When they measured it with an omer, he who gathered much had nothing over, and he who gathered little had no lack. They gathered every man according to his eating.

¹⁸ وقتی آنها را وزن می‌کردند، کسانی‌که زیاد جمع کرده بودند زیاد نداشتند و آنهایی که کمتر جمع کرده بودند کم نداشتند، هرکس به همان اندازه‌ای که احتیاج داشت جمع کرده بود.

¹⁹Moses said to them, “Let no one leave of it until the morning.”

¹⁹ موسی به آنها گفت: «هیچ‌کس نباید چیزی از آن را برای فردا نگاه دارد.»

²⁰Notwithstanding they didn’t listen to Moses, but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and became foul: and Moses was angry with them.

²⁰ امّا بعضی‌ها به حرف موسی گوش ندادند و قسمتی از آن را نگاه داشتند. ولی صبح روز بعد همهٔ آنها کرم گذاشته و گندیده بود و موسی نسبت به آنها خشمگین شد.

²¹They gathered it morning by morning, everyone according to his eating. When the sun grew hot, it melted.

²¹ هرکس هر روز صبح به اندازهٔ احتیاجش جمع می‌کرد و وقتی خورشید بالا می‌آمد و گرم می‌شد آنچه که روی زمین باقیمانده بود آب می‌شد و از بین می‌رفت.

²²It happened that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one, and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

²² در روز ششم آنها دو برابر احتیاج روزانه خود جمع می‌کردند یعنی هرکس به اندازهٔ دو پیمانهٔ چهار لیتری. پس رهبران قوم آمدند و به موسی خبر دادند.

²³He said to them, “This is that which Yahweh has spoken, ‘Tomorrow is a solemn rest, a holy Sabbath to Yahweh. Bake that which you want to bake, and boil that which you want to boil; and all that remains over lay up for yourselves to be kept until the morning.’”

²³ موسی به آنها گفت: «این دستور خداوند است. فردا، روز استراحت و روز مقدّس است. پس امروز هرچه می‌خواهید با آتش بپزید و هرچه می‌خواهید با آب بپزید. هرچه که باقی بماند آن را برای فردا نگاه دارید.»

²⁴They laid it up until the morning, as Moses asked, and it didn’t become foul, neither was there any worm in it.

²⁴ همان‌طور که موسی دستور داده بود، هرچه را باقیمانده بود برای فردا نگه داشتند، ولی نه کرم گذاشت و نه گندید.

²⁵Moses said, “Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to Yahweh. Today you shall not find it in the field.

²⁵ موسی گفت: «این را امروز بخورید زیرا امروز سبت، روز خداوند و روز استراحت است و خارج از اردو‌‌گاه هیچ غذایی پیدا نخواهید کرد.

²⁶Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day is the Sabbath. In it there shall be none.”

²⁶ شما باید شش روز غذا جمع‌آوری کنید ولی در روز هفتم که روز استراحت است غذا نخواهد بود.»

²⁷It happened on the seventh day, that some of the people went out to gather, and they found none.

²⁷ در روز هفتم بعضی از مردم به بیابان رفتند تا غذا جمع کنند ولی چیزی پیدا نکردند.

²⁸Yahweh said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?

²⁸ سپس خداوند به موسی فرمود: «شما تا کی می‌خواهید از دستورات من سرپیچی کنید؟

²⁹Behold, because Yahweh has given you the Sabbath, therefore he gives you on the sixth day the bread of two days. Everyone stay in his place. Let no one go out of his place on the seventh day.”

²⁹ این را به‌خاطر داشته ‌باشید که من، خداوند، یک روز برای استراحت به شما داده‌ام و به همین دلیل است که همیشه در روز ششم به اندازهٔ دو روز به شما غذا می‌دهم. پس در روز هفتم هرکس در جای خود بماند و از خیمه‌اش بیرون نیاید»

³⁰So the people rested on the seventh day.

³⁰ بنابراین مردم در روز هفتم به استراحت پرداختند.

³¹The house of Israel called its name Manna, “Manna” means “What is it?” and it was like coriander seed, white; and its taste was like wafers with honey.

³¹ بنی‌اسرائیل اسم این غذا را مَنّا گذاشتند. مَنّا شکل تخم گشنیز و مزهٔ آن مانند کلوچهٔ عسلی بود.

³²Moses said, “This is the thing which Yahweh has commanded, ‘Let an omer-full of it be kept throughout your generations, that they may see the bread with which I fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.’”

³² موسی گفت: «خداوند دستور داده است که مقداری از مَنّا را نگه دارید تا نسلهای آیندهٔ ما نانی را که خداوند پس از بیرون آوردن ما از سرزمین مصر، در بیابان به ما داد، ببینند.»

³³Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an omer-full of manna in it, and lay it up before Yahweh, to be kept throughout your generations.”

³³ موسی به هارون گفت: «به اندازهٔ یک پیمانه دو لیتری، مَنّا در ظرفی بریز و آن را در حضور خداوند بگذار تا برای نسلهای آینده نگه‌داری شود.»

³⁴As Yahweh commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

³⁴ همان‌طور که خداوند به موسی دستور داده بود، هارون ظرف مَنّا را در مقابل صندوق پیمان گذاشت تا نگهداری شود.

³⁵The children of Israel ate the manna forty years, until they came to an inhabited land. They ate the manna until they came to the borders of the land of Canaan.

³⁵ بنی‌اسرائیل مدّت چهل سال مَنّا خوردند یعنی تا زمانی که به مرز سرزمین کنعان رسیدند. (در آن زمان یک پیمانه دو لیتری معادل یک دهم مقیاس مورد استفاده برای اندازه‌گیری جامدات بود.)

³⁶Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah. 1 ephah is about 22 litres or about 2/3 of a bushel
