¹Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Depart, go up from here, you and the people that you have brought up out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘I will give it to your seed.’

¹ خداوند به موسی فرمود: «تو و این قومی که آنها را از مصر بیرون آورده‌ای از این مکان کوچ کنید و به سرزمینی که قول داده‌ام به ابراهیم و اسحاق و یعقوب و فرزندان آنها بدهم، بروید

²I will send an angel before you; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

² من فرشته‌ای را می‌فرستم تا شما را راهنمایی کند. تمام کنعانیان، اموریان، حِتّیان، فرزیان، حویان و یبوسیان را از سر راه شما بیرون خواهم کرد.

³to a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of you, for you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you in the way.”

³ شما به سرزمینی غنی و حاصلخیز می‌روید. امّا من خودم با شما نخواهم آمد، زیرا شما مردمی ‌سرکش هستید و ممکن است شما را در راه نابود کنم.»

⁴When the people heard this evil news, they mourned: and no one put on his jewelry.

⁴ هنگامی که مردم این سخنان سخت را شنیدند، ماتم گرفتند و از جواهرات و آلات زینتی خود استفاده نکردند.

⁵Yahweh said to Moses, “Tell the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go up into your midst for one moment, I would consume you. Therefore now take off your jewelry from you, that I may know what to do to you.’”

⁵ خداوند به موسی دستور داد که به آنها بگوید: «شما مردم گردنکشی هستید و من اگر حتّی یک لحظه با شما بیایم شما را نابود خواهم کرد. حال شما جواهرات خود را از خود دور کنید تا من تصمیم بگیرم با شما چه‌کار کنم.»

⁶The children of Israel stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.

⁶ پس قوم اسرائیل بعد از اینکه کوه سینا را ترک کردند از جواهرات خود استفاده نکردند.

⁷Now Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and he called it “The Tent of Meeting.” It happened that everyone who sought Yahweh went out to the Tent of Meeting, which was outside the camp.

⁷ هروقت قوم بنی‌اسرائیل اردوگاه برپا می‌کردند، موسی خیمهٔ مقدّس را برمی‌داشت و دور از اردوگاه نصب می‌کرد. آن خیمه را «خیمهٔ مقدّس خداوند» می‌گفتند. هرکسی که می‌خواست با خداوند راز و نیاز کند به آن خیمه می‌رفت.

⁸It happened that when Moses went out to the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, everyone at their tent door, and watched Moses, until he had gone into the Tent.

⁸ هروقت که موسی به طرف خیمه می‌رفت تمام مردم در مقابل چادر‌های خود می‌ایستادند تا موسی داخل خیمه شود.

⁹It happened, when Moses entered into the Tent, that the pillar of cloud descended, stood at the door of the Tent, and spoke with Moses.

⁹ بعد از اینکه موسی به داخل خیمه می‌رفت، ستون ابر پایین می‌آمد و در مقابل در خیمه می‌ایستاد و خداوند از داخل ابر با موسی گفت‌وگو می‌کرد.

¹⁰All the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent, and all the people rose up and worshiped, everyone at their tent door.

¹⁰ همین که مردم ستون ابر را در مقابل در خیمه می‌دیدند، همگی سجده می‌كردند.

¹¹Yahweh spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. He turned again into the camp, but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, didn’t depart out of the Tent.

¹¹ خداوند با موسی روبه‌رو صحبت می‌کرد، همان‌طور که یک نفر با دوست خود صحبت می‌کند. سپس موسی به طرف اردوگاه برمی‌گشت امّا آن مرد جوان یعنی یوشع پسر نون که معاون موسی بود، در خیمه می‌ماند.

¹²Moses said to Yahweh, “Behold, you tell me, ‘Bring up this people:’ and you haven’t let me know whom you will send with me. Yet you have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found favor in my sight.’

¹² موسی به خداوند عرض کرد: «این درست است که تو به من فرموده‌ای که این قوم را به آن سرزمین رهبری کنم، امّا به من نگفته‌ای که چه کسی را با من خواهی فرستاد. تو فرموده‌ای که مرا خوب می‌شناسی و از من خشنود هستی.

¹³Now therefore, if I have found favor in your sight, please show me now your ways, that I may know you, so that I may find favor in your sight: and consider that this nation is your people.”

¹³ پس اگر این‌طور است نقشهٔ خود را به من بگو تا بتوانم تو را خدمت نموده و خُشنود بسازم. همچنین به‌خاطر آور که تو این قوم را انتخاب کرده‌ای تا از آن تو باشند.»

¹⁴He said, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

¹⁴ خداوند فرمود: «من با تو خواهم آمد و تو را پیروز خواهم ساخت.»

¹⁵He said to him, “If your presence doesn’t go with me, don’t carry us up from here.

¹⁵ موسی در جواب عرض کرد: «چنانچه با ما نخواهی آمد، ما را از این مکان بیرون نبر.

¹⁶For how would people know that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Isn’t it in that you go with us, so that we are separated, I and your people, from all the people who are on the surface of the earth?”

¹⁶ اگر تو با ما نیایی از کجا معلوم خواهد شد که از من و قوم خود راضی هستی؟ حضور تو با وجه تمایز ما با سایر ملل روی زمین می‌باشد.»

¹⁷Yahweh said to Moses, “I will do this thing also that you have spoken; for you have found favor in my sight, and I know you by name.”

¹⁷ خداوند به موسی فرمود: «من همان‌طور که تو گفته‌ای انجام خواهم داد، زیرا تو را خوب می‌شناسم و از تو راضی هستم.»

¹⁸He said, “Please show me your glory.”

¹⁸ آنگاه موسی درخواست کرد: «بگذار تا نور درخشان حضور تو را ببینم.»

¹⁹He said, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and will proclaim the name of Yahweh before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.”

¹⁹ خداوند فرمود: «من تمام درخشندگی خود را در مقابل تو می‌گسترانم. من نام مقدّس خود را به تو اعلام می‌کنم. من، خداوند هستم. و بر هرکه بر‌گزینم رأفت و رحمت خواهم کرد.

²⁰He said, “You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live.”

²⁰ ولی من نمی‌گذارم که روی مرا ببینی زیرا کسی نمی‌تواند روی مرا ببیند و بعد از آن زنده بماند.

²¹Yahweh also said, “Behold, there is a place by me, and you shall stand on the rock.

²¹ اینجا در کنار من جایی است که تو می‌توانی روی یک صخره بایستی.

²²It will happen, while my glory passes by, that I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with my hand until I have passed by;

²² وقتی‌که نور درخشان حضور من عبور می‌كند، تو را در شکاف صخره می‌گذارم و تو را با دست خود می‌پوشانم تا عبور کنم و بعد از آن دست خود را برمی‌دارم و تو می‌توانی از پشت مرا ببینی ولی روی مرا نمی‌توانی ببینی.»

²³then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen.”

²³ و بعد از آن دست خود را برمی‌دارم و تو می‌توانی از پشت مرا ببینی ولی روی مرا نمی‌توانی ببینی.»
