1Now this is the history of the generations of the sons of Noah and of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. Sons were born to them after the flood.

اینها فرزندان پسران نوح یعنی فرزندان سام، حام و یافث هستند كه بعد از توفان متولّد شدند:
2The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

پسران یافث: جومر، ماجوج، مادای، یاوان، توبال، ماشک و تیراس بودند.
3The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.

پسران جومر: اشكناز، ریفات و توجرمه بودند.
4The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

پسران یاوان: الیشه، ترشیش، كتیم و رودانیم بودند.
5Of these were the islands of the nations divided in their lands, everyone after his language, after their families, in their nations.

از اینها مردمی كه در اطراف دریا در جزیرهها زندگی میكردند، به وجود آمدند. اینها فرزندان یافث هستند كه هر كدام در قبیله و در سرزمین خودشان زندگی میكردند و هر قبیله به زبان مخصوص خودشان صحبت میكردند.
6The sons of Ham: Cush, Mizraim, Put, and Canaan.

پسران حام: كوش، مصر، لیبی و كنعان بودند.
7The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah: Sheba and Dedan.

پسران كوش: سبا، حویله، سبته، رعمه و سبتكا بودند. و پسران رعمه: شبا و ددان بودند.
8Cush became the father of Nimrod. He began to be a mighty one in the earth.

كوش پسری داشت به نام نمرود. او اولین مرد قدرتمند در روی زمین بود.
9He was a mighty hunter before Yahweh. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before Yahweh.”

او با كمک خداوند تیرانداز ماهری شده بود و به همین جهت است كه مردم میگویند: «خدا تو را در تیراندازی مانند نمرود گرداند.»
10The beginning of his kingdom was Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

در ابتدا منطقهٔ فرمانروایی او شامل: بابل، ارک، آكاد و تمام اینها در سرزمین شنعار بود.
11Out of that land he went into Assyria, and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah,

بعد از آن به سرزمین آشور رفت و شهرهای نینوا، و رحوبوت عیر، كالح
12and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (the same is the great city).

و ریسن را كه بین نینوا و كالح كه شهر بزرگی است، بنا كرد.
13Mizraim became the father of Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,

مصر جدّ لود، عنامیم، لهابیم، نفتوحیم،
14Pathrusim, Casluhim (which the Philistines descended from), and Caphtorim.

فتروسیم، كسلوحیم و كفتوریم كه جدّ فلسطینیهاست، بود.
15Canaan became the father of Sidon (his firstborn), Heth,
15
صیدون، نخستزادهٔ كنعان بود و پس از او حت به دنیا آمد.
16the Jebusite, the Amorite, the Girgashite,

كنعان هم جدّ اقوام زیر بود:
یبوسیان، اموریان، جرجاشیان،
17the Hivite, the Arkite, the Sinite,

حویان، عرقیان، سینیان،
18the Arvadite, the Zemarite, and the Hamathite. Afterward the families of the Canaanites were spread abroad.

اروادیان، صماریان و حماتیان.
قبایل مختلف كنعان، از صیدون تا جرار كه نزدیک غزه است و تا سدوم و غموره و ادمه و صبوئیم كه نزدیک لاشع است، پراكنده شدند.
19The border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as you go toward Gerar, to Gaza; as you go toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, to Lasha.

اینها، نسلهای حام بودند كه به صورت قبایل مختلف زندگی میكردند و هر قبیله برای خود زبان مخصوصی داشت.
20These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their languages, in their lands, in their nations.

سام -برادر بزرگ یافث- جدّ تمام فرزندان عابر بود.
21To Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, to him also were children born.

پسران سام عبارت بودند از: عیلام، آشور، ارفكشاد، لود و اَرام.
22The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arpachshad, Lud, and Aram.

پسران اَرام، عبارت بودند از: عوص، حول، جاتر و ماشک.
23The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
23
ارفكشاد، پدر شالح و شالح پدر عابر بود.
24Arpachshad became the father of Shelah. Shelah became the father of Eber.

عابر دو پسر داشت. اسم یكی فالج بود -زیرا در زمان او بود كه مردم دنیا پراكنده شدند- و اسم دیگری یقطان بود.
25To Eber were born two sons. The name of the one was Peleg, for in his days the earth was divided. His brother’s name was Joktan.

پسران یقطان عبارت بودند از: الموداد، شالف، حضرموت، یارح،
26Joktan became the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

هدورام، اوزال، دِقلَه،
27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
27
عوبال، ابیمائیل، شِبا،
28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
28
اوفیر، حویله و یوباب.
29Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All these were the sons of Joktan.

همهٔ اینها از ناحیهٔ میشا تا سفاره كه یكی از كوههای شرقی است، زندگی میكردند.
30Their dwelling was from Mesha, as you go toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.

اینها نسلهای سام بودند كه در قبیله و سرزمینهای مختلف زندگی میكردند و هر قبیله با زبان مخصوص خودشان گفتوگو میكردند.
همهٔ این افراد بر طبق نسبنامههایشان، پسران نوح بودند كه بعد از توفان تمام ملّتهای روی زمین به وسیلهٔ آنها به وجود آمد.
31These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their languages, in their lands, after their nations.
