1After these things the word of Yahweh came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Don’t be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

بعد از این اَبرام رؤیایی دید و صدای خداوند را شنید كه به او میگوید: «اَبرام، نترس، من تو را از خطر حفظ خواهم كرد و به تو پاداش بزرگی خواهم داد.»
2Abram said, “Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” Yahweh, what will you give me, since I go childless, and he who will inherit my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?”

اَبرام جواب داد: «ای خداوند، خدای من، چه پاداشی به من خواهی داد، در حالی كه من فرزندی ندارم؟ تنها وارث من این الیعزر دمشقی است.
3Abram said, “Behold, to me you have given no seed: and, behold, one born in my house is my heir.”
3
تو به من فرزندی ندادی و یكی از غلامان من وارث من خواهد شد.»
4Behold, the word of Yahweh came to him, saying, “This man will not be your heir, but he who will come out of your own body will be your heir.”

پس او شنید كه خداوند دوباره به او میگوید: «این غلام تو الیعزر وارث تو نخواهد بود. پسر تو وارث تو خواهد بود.»
5Yahweh brought him outside, and said, “Look now toward the sky, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” He said to Abram, “So shall your seed be.”

خداوند او را بیرون برد و فرمود: «به آسمان نگاه كن و بكوش ستارهها را بشماری. فرزندان تو به همین اندازه زیاد خواهند شد.»
6He believed in Yahweh; and he reckoned it to him for righteousness.

اَبرام به خداوند اعتماد كرد و بهخاطر این، خداوند از او خشنود شد و او را قبول كرد.
7He said to him, “I am Yahweh who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give you this land to inherit it.”
7
سپس خداوند به او فرمود: «من خداوندی هستم كه تو را از اور كلدانیان بیرون آوردم تا این سرزمین را به تو بدهم كه مال خودت باشد.»
8He said, “Lord Yahweh, how will I know that I will inherit it?”
8
امّا اَبرام از خداوند پرسید: «ای خداوند متعال، چگونه بدانم كه این زمین مال خود من خواهد بود؟»
9He said to him, “Bring me a heifer three years old, a female goat three years old, a ram three years old, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.”

خداوند در جواب فرمود: «یک گوساله و یک بُز و یک قوچ كه هرکدام سه ساله باشد و یک قمری و یک كبوتر برای من بیاور.»
10He brought him all of these, and divided them in the middle, and laid each half opposite the other; but he didn’t divide the birds.

اَبرام این حیوانات را برای خدا آورد، آنها را از وسط دو تکه كرد و هر تکه را نزد تكهٔ دیگر گذاشت. امّا پرندگان را پاره نكرد.
11The birds of prey came down on the carcasses, and Abram drove them away.
11
لاشخورها آمدند تا آنها را بخورند ولی اَبرام آنها را دور كرد.
12When the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. Now terror and great darkness fell on him.

وقتی خورشید غروب میكرد، اَبرام به خواب سنگینی رفت. ترس و وحشت اَبرام را فراگرفت.
13He said to Abram, “Know for sure that your seed will live as foreigners in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them. They will afflict them four hundred years.

خداوند به او فرمود: «نسل تو در سرزمین بیگانه، غریب خواهند بود. آنها به غلامی دیگران درمیآیند و مدّت چهارصد سال بر ایشان ظلم خواهد شد.
14I will also judge that nation, whom they will serve. Afterward they will come out with great wealth,

امّا من ملّتی كه آنها را به غلامی خواهد گرفت، مجازات خواهم كرد. وقتی كه آنها سرزمین بیگانه را ترک كنند، ثروت فراوانی با خود خواهند برد.
15but you will go to your fathers in peace. You will be buried in a good old age.
15
تو خودت كاملاً پیر میشوی و با آرامی به نزد اجداد خود خواهی رفت و دفن خواهی شد.
16In the fourth generation they will come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full.”
16
چهار نسل طول خواهد كشید تا فرزندان تو به اینجا بازگردند. زیرا من اموریان را بیرون نخواهم كرد تا در شرارت خود به اندازهای برسند كه مجازات خود را ببینند.»
17It came to pass that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch passed between these pieces.

وقتی خورشید غروب كرد و هوا تاریک شد، ناگهان یک ظرف آتش و یک مشعل آتش ظاهر شد و از میان تکههای حیوانات عبور كرد.
18In that day Yahweh made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your seed I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

سپس خداوند در آنجا با اَبرام پیمانی بست. او فرمود: «من قول میدهم كه تمام این سرزمین، از مصر تا رودخانهٔ فرات را،
19the Kenites, the Kenizzites, the Kadmonites,
19
كه شامل قینیان، قنزیان، قدمونیان،
20the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim,
20
حِتّیان، فرزیان، رفائیان،
اموریان، كنعانیان، جرجاشیان و یبوسیان است، به نسل تو بدهم.»
21the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”
21
اموریان، كنعانیان، جرجاشیان و یبوسیان است، به نسل تو بدهم.»
