1There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar.

در آن سرزمین قحطی شدیدی به وجود آمد. این غیراز آن قحطیای بود كه در زمان ابراهیم شده بود. اسحاق به نزد ابیملک پادشاه فلسطین به جرار رفت.
2Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about.

خداوند بر اسحاق ظاهر شد و فرمود: «به مصر نرو. در همین سرزمین در جایی كه من میگویم بمان.
3Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For to you, and to your seed, I will give all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

در اینجا زندگی كن. من با تو خواهم بود و تو را بركت خواهم داد. تمام این سرزمین را به تو و به نسل تو خواهم داد و پیمانی را كه با پدرت ابراهیم بستهام، حفظ خواهم كرد.
4I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and will give to your seed all these lands. In your seed will all the nations of the earth be blessed,

من نسل تو را مانند ستارگان آسمان زیاد میكنم و تمام این سرزمین را به آنها خواهم داد. تمام ملّتها خواهند خواست تا همان طوری که تو را بركت دادهام، آنها را نیز بركت دهم.
5because Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my requirements, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.”

من تو را بركت خواهم داد چون كه ابراهیم از من اطاعت كرد و تمام دستورات و اوامر مرا بجا آورد.»
6Isaac lived in Gerar.

پس اسحاق در جرار ساكن شد.
7The men of the place asked him about his wife. He said, “She is my sister,” for he was afraid to say, “My wife,” lest, he thought, “the men of the place might kill me for Rebekah, because she is beautiful to look at.”

وقتی مردمان آنجا دربارهٔ همسرش پرسیدند، گفت كه او خواهر من است. او نمیخواست بگوید كه ربكا همسرش است چون میترسید او را بكشند تا ربكا را كه زن بسیار زیبایی بود بگیرند.
8It happened, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was caressing Rebekah, his wife.

مدّتی از سكونت اسحاق در آنجا گذشت، روزی پادشاه ابیملک، از پنجرهٔ اتاقش به بیرون نگاه میكرد. او دید كه اسحاق و ربكا مشغول عشقبازی هستند.
9Abimelech called Isaac, and said, “Behold, surely she is your wife. Why did you say, ‘She is my sister?’” Isaac said to him, “Because I said, ‘Lest I die because of her.’”

ابیملک دستور داد اسحاق را آوردند و به او گفت: «این زن همسر تو میباشد، چرا گفتی خواهر توست؟»
او جواب داد: «فكر كردم اگر بگویم او همسر من است، مرا خواهند كشت.»
10Abimelech said, “What is this you have done to us? One of the people might easily have lain with your wife, and you would have brought guilt on us!”

ابیملک گفت: «این چهكاری بود كه با ما كردی؟ ممكن بود یكی از مردان من به آسانی با همسر تو همخواب شود. در آن صورت تو مسئول گناه ما بودی.»
11Abimelech commanded all the people, saying, “He who touches this man or his wife will surely be put to death.”

ابیملک به تمام مردم اخطار كرد كه هركس با این مرد و همسرش بدرفتاری كند، كشته خواهد شد.
12Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him.

اسحاق در آن سرزمین زراعت كرد و در آن سال صد برابر آنچه كاشته بود محصول به دست آورد. چون خداوند او را بركت داده بود.
13The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great.
13
او مرتّب ترقی میكرد و مرد بسیار ثروتمندی شد.
14He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.
14
چون او گلّههای گاو و گوسفند و خدمتکاران بسیاری داشت، فلسطینیان به او حسادت كردند.
15Now all the wells which his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped, and filled with earth.

آنها تمام چاههایی را كه غلامان پدرش ابراهیم در زمانی كه زنده بود كنده بودند، پُر كردند.
16Abimelech said to Isaac, “Go from us, for you are much mightier than we.”
16
ابیملک به اسحاق گفت: «تو از ما قویتر شدهای، پس كشور ما را ترک كن.»
17Isaac departed from there, encamped in the valley of Gerar, and lived there.
17
بنابراین اسحاق از آنجا رفت و اردوی خود را در اطراف وادی جرار برپا كرد و مدّتی در آنجا ماند.
18Isaac dug again the wells of water, which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father. For the Philistines had stopped them after the death of Abraham. He called their names after the names by which his father had called them.

او چاههایی را كه در زمان ابراهیم كنده شده بود و فلسطینیان آنها را بعد از وفات ابراهیم پُر كرده بودند، دوباره كند و همان اسمی را كه ابراهیم بر آن چاهها گذاشته بود، دوباره بر آنها گذاشت.
19Isaac’s servants dug in the valley, and found there a well of springing water.

غلامان اسحاق در وادی جرار چاهی كندند كه آب داشت.
20The herdsmen of Gerar argued with Isaac’s herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” He called the name of the well Esek, because they contended with him.

شبانان جرار با شبانان اسحاق دعوا كردند و گفتند: «این آب مال ماست.» بنابراین اسحاق اسم آن چاه را «دعوا» گذاشت.
21They dug another well, and they argued over that, also. He called its name Sitnah.

غلامان اسحاق چاه دیگری كندند. بهخاطر آن دعوای دیگری درگرفت. پس او اسم آن چاه را «دشمنی» گذاشت.
22He left that place, and dug another well. They didn’t argue over that one. He called it Rehoboth. He said, “For now Yahweh has made room for us, and we will be fruitful in the land.”

پس از آنجا كوچ كرد و چاه دیگری كند. بهخاطر این چاه دیگر دعوایی نشد. پس اسم این چاه را «آزادی» گذاشت. او گفت: «خداوند به ما آزادی داده است تا در زمین زندگی كنیم. ما در اینجا کامیاب خواهیم شد.»
23He went up from there to Beersheba.

اسحاق از آنجا كوچ كرد و به بئرشبع آمد.
24Yahweh appeared to him the same night, and said, “I am the God of Abraham your father. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed for my servant Abraham’s sake.”

آن شب خداوند بر او ظاهر شد و فرمود: «من هستم خدای پدرت ابراهیم. نترس، من با تو هستم. بهخاطر وعدهای كه به بندهام ابراهیم دادهام، تو را بركت خواهم داد و فرزندان بسیاری به تو خواهم بخشید.»
25He built an altar there, and called on the name of Yahweh, and pitched his tent there. There Isaac’s servants dug a well.

اسحاق در آنجا قربانگاهی درست كرد و خداوند را پرستش نمود. سپس اردوی خود را در آنجا برپا كرد و غلامان او چاه دیگری كندند.
26Then Abimelech went to him from Gerar, and Ahuzzath his friend, and Phicol the captain of his army.

ابیملک به اتّفاق مشاور خود، احوزات و سردار سپاهیانش، فیكول از جرار به ملاقات اسحاق آمد.
27Isaac said to them, “Why have you come to me, since you hate me, and have sent me away from you?”
27
اسحاق پرسید: «تو با من غیردوستانه رفتار كردی و مرا از سرزمین خود بیرون كردی. پس چرا حالا به دیدن من آمدی؟»
28They said, “We saw plainly that Yahweh was with you. We said, ‘Let there now be an oath between us, even between us and you, and let us make a covenant with you,

آنها جواب دادند: «ما حالا فهمیدهایم كه خداوند با توست و فكر میكنیم كه باید یک قرارداد صلح بین ما بسته شود. ما از تو میخواهیم كه قول بدهی
29that you will do us no harm, as we have not touched you, and as we have done to you nothing but good, and have sent you away in peace.’ You are now the blessed of Yahweh.”

به ما صدمهای نزنی، همان طوری که ما به تو صدمه نزدیم. ما با تو مهربان بودیم و تو را به سلامتی روانه كردیم. حالا كاملاً واضح است كه خداوند تو را بركت داده است.»
30He made them a feast, and they ate and drank.
30
اسحاق یک مهمانی به افتخار آنها ترتیب داد. آنها خوردند و نوشیدند.
31They rose up some time in the morning, and swore one to another. Isaac sent them away, and they departed from him in peace.

روز بعد صبح زود هریک از آنها به هم قول دادند و بهخاطر آن قسم خوردند. اسحاق با آنها خداحافظی كرد و دوستانه از هم جدا شدند.
32It happened the same day, that Isaac’s servants came, and told him concerning the well which they had dug, and said to him, “We have found water.”

در آن روز غلامان اسحاق آمدند و به او خبر دادند كه، چاهی را كه میكندیم به آب رسیده است.
33He called it Shibah. Shibah means “oath” or “seven.” Therefore the name of the city is Beersheba Beersheba means “well of the oath” or “well of the seven” to this day.

او اسم آن چاه را «قسم» گذاشت و به همین دلیل است كه آن شهر «بئرشبع» نامیده شد.
34When Esau was forty years old, he took as wife Judith, the daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath, the daughter of Elon the Hittite.

وقتی عیسو چهل ساله شد با دو دختر حِتی به نامهای جودیت دختر بیری و بسمه دختر ایلون ازدواج كرد.
آنها زندگی را بر اسحاق و ربكا سخت كردند.
35They grieved Isaac’s and Rebekah’s spirits.

آنها زندگی را بر اسحاق و ربكا سخت كردند.
