1Abraham took another wife, and her name was Keturah.

ابراهیم با زن دیگری به نام قطوره ازدواج كرد.
2She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

او زمران، یُقشان، مدان، مدیان، ایشباک و شوآ را به دنیا آورد
3Jokshan became the father of Sheba, and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim.

یقشان، پدر شبا و دِدان بود. آشوریم، لتوشیم، لئومیم از نسل دِدان بودند.
4The sons of Midian: Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah.

عیفا، عیفَر، حنوک، ابیداع و الداعه فرزندان مدیان بودند. همهٔ اینها فرزندان قطوره بودند.
5Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac,

ابراهیم تمام دارایی خود را به اسحاق بخشید.
6but to the sons of Abraham’s concubines, Abraham gave gifts. He sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, to the east country.

ولی در زمان حیات خود هدایایی هم به پسرهایی كه از زنهای دیگر خود داشت، داد و آنها را از پیش اسحاق بیرون كرد و به طرف سرزمین مشرق فرستاد.
7These are the days of the years of Abraham’s life which he lived: one hundred seventy-five years.

ابراهیم در سن صد و هفتاد و پنج سالگی در حالی كه كاملاً پیر شده بود، وفات یافت و به نزد اجداد خود رفت.
8Abraham gave up the spirit, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years, and was gathered to his people.

پسران او اسحاق و اسماعیل او را در آرامگاه مكفیله در مزرعهٔ مشرق ممری كه متعلّق به عفرون پسر سوحار حِتّی بود، دفن كردند.
9Isaac and Ishmael, his sons, buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron, the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre,

این همان مزرعهای بود كه ابراهیم از حِتّیان خریده بود. ابراهیم و زنش سارا هر دو در آنجا دفن شدند.
10the field which Abraham purchased of the children of Heth. Abraham was buried there with Sarah, his wife.

بعد از وفات ابراهیم، خدا پسر او، اسحاق را بركت داد. او نزدیک چاه «خدای زنده و بینا» زندگی میكرد.
11It happened after the death of Abraham that God blessed Isaac, his son. Isaac lived by Beer Lahai Roi.

پسران اسماعیل-کسیکه هاجر، كنیز مصری سارا، برای ابراهیم به دنیا آورده بود-
12Now this is the history of the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, bore to Abraham.

به ترتیب تولّدشان عبارت بودند از: نبایوت، قیدار، اَدَبئیل، مبسام،
13These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to the order of their birth: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam,

مشماع، دومه، مسا،
14Mishma, Dumah, Massa,
14
حداد، تیما، یطور، نافیش و قِدمَه.
15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah.
15
اینها نیاکان دوازده امیر بودند و نام هریک به قبیله و دهات و اردوگاه ایشان داده شد.
16These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their villages, and by their encampments: twelve princes, according to their nations.

اسماعیل صد و سی و هفت ساله بود كه مرد و به نزد اجداد خود رفت.
17These are the years of the life of Ishmael: one hundred thirty-seven years. He gave up the spirit and died, and was gathered to his people.

فرزندان اسماعیل در سرزمینی بین حویله و شور، در مشرق مصر، در راه آشور زندگی میكردند و از فرزندان دیگر ابراهیم جدا بودند.
18They lived from Havilah to Shur that is before Egypt, as you go toward Assyria. He lived opposite all his relatives.

این است داستان زندگی اسحاق پسر ابراهیم.
19This is the history of the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son. Abraham became the father of Isaac.

اسحاق چهل ساله بود كه با ربكا دختر بتوئیل (اَرامی از اهالی بینالنهرین) و خواهر لابان ازدواج كرد.
20Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.

چون ربكا فرزندی نداشت، اسحاق نزد خداوند دعا كرد. خداوند دعای او را مستجاب فرمود و ربكا آبستن شد.
21Isaac entreated Yahweh for his wife, because she was barren. Yahweh was entreated by him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

ربكا دوقلو آبستن شده بود. قبل از اینکه بچّهها به دنیا بیایند در شكم مادرشان برضد یكدیگر دست و پا میزدند. ربكا گفت: «چرا باید چنین چیزی برای من اتّفاق بیفتد؟» پس رفت تا از خداوند بپرسد.
22The children struggled together within her. She said, “If it be so, why do I live?” She went to inquire of Yahweh.

خداوند به او فرمود:
«دو ملّت در شكم تو میباشند.
تو دو قوم را، كه رقیب یكدیگرند، به دنیا میآوری.
یكی از دیگری قویتر خواهد بود
و برادر بزرگ خادم برادر كوچک خواهد بود.»
23Yahweh said to her, “Two nations are in your womb. Two peoples will be separated from your body. The one people will be stronger than the other people. The elder will serve the younger.”

وقت زاییدن او رسید. او دو پسر به دنیا آورد.
24When her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.
24
اولی سرخرنگ و پوستش مانند پوستین، پُر از مو بود. اسم او را عیسو گذاشتند.
25The first came out red all over, like a hairy garment. They named him Esau.
25
دوّمی وقتی به دنیا آمد، پاشنهٔ عیسو را محكم گرفته بود. اسم او را یعقوب گذاشتند. اسحاق در موقع تولّد این پسرها شصت ساله بود.
26After that, his brother came out, and his hand had hold on Esau’s heel. He was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them.

پسرها بزرگ شدند. عیسو شكارچی ماهری شد و صحرا را دوست میداشت، ولی یعقوب مرد آرامی بود كه در خانه میماند.
27The boys grew. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field. Jacob was a quiet man, living in tents.

اسحاق عیسو را بیشتر دوست میداشت چونكه از حیواناتی كه او شكار میكرد میخورد، امّا ربكا یعقوب را بیشتر دوست میداشت.
28Now Isaac loved Esau, because he ate his venison. Rebekah loved Jacob.

یک روز وقتی یعقوب مشغول پختن آش بود، عیسو از شكار آمد و گرسنه بود.
29Jacob boiled stew. Esau came in from the field, and he was famished.
29
او به یعقوب گفت: «نزدیک است از گرسنگی بمیرم. مقداری از آن آش قرمز به من بده.» (به همین دلیل است كه به او «اَدوم» یعنی قرمز میگویند.)
30Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

یعقوب به او گفت: «به این شرط از این آش به تو میدهم كه تو حق نخستزادگی خود را به من بدهی.»
31Jacob said, “First, sell me your birthright.”
31
عیسو گفت: «بسیار خوب، چیزی نمانده كه از گرسنگی بمیرم. حق نخستزادگی چه فایدهای برای من دارد؟»
32Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?”
32
یعقوب گفت: «اول برای من قسم بخور كه حق خود را به من دادی.»
عیسو قسم خورد و حق نخستزادگی خود را به یعقوب داد.
بعد از آن یعقوب مقداری آش عدس و نان به او داد. او خورد و نوشید و بلند شد و رفت. عیسو برای نخستزادگی خود بیشتر از این ارزش قایل نشد.
33Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob.
33
بعد از آن یعقوب مقداری آش عدس و نان به او داد. او خورد و نوشید و بلند شد و رفت. عیسو برای نخستزادگی خود بیشتر از این ارزش قایل نشد.
34Jacob gave Esau bread and stew of lentils. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright.
