1Then Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, “My father and my brothers, with their flocks, their herds, and all that they own, have come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.”

بعد از آن یوسف پنج نفر از برادرانش را برداشت و به نزد فرعون رفت و به او گفت: «پدر و برادرانم با گلّه و رمه و هرچه دارند از كنعان به نزد من آمدهاند و اكنون در منطقهٔ جوشن هستند.»
2From among his brothers he took five men, and presented them to Pharaoh.

سپس برادرانش را به فرعون معرّفی كرد.
3Pharaoh said to his brothers, “What is your occupation?” They said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers.”

فرعون از آنها پرسید: «شغل شما چیست؟»
آنها جواب دادند: «ما مانند اجداد خود چوپان هستیم.
4They said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.”

و بهخاطر این به اینجا آمدهایم كه، در كنعان قحطی خیلی شدید است و ما علفزار برای چرانیدن گلّههای خود نداریم. حالا از شما تقاضا داریم اجازه بدهید كه ما در منطقهٔ جوشن ساكن شویم.»
5Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.

فرعون به یوسف گفت: «پدر و برادرانت پیش تو آمدهاند.
6The land of Egypt is before you. Make your father and your brothers dwell in the best of the land. Let them dwell in the land of Goshen. If you know any able men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.”

تمام سرزمین مصر در اختیار توست. ایشان را در بهترین زمینها و در منطقهٔ جوشن سكونت بده. اگر در بین آنها مردان كاردانی هم هستند ایشان را سرپرست گلّهداران من بگردان.»
7Joseph brought in Jacob, his father, and set him before Pharaoh, and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

سپس یوسف، پدرش یعقوب را به حضور فرعون آورد. یعقوب به فرعون سلام كرد و درود فرستاد.
8Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How many are the days of the years of your life?”

فرعون از یعقوب پرسید: «تو چند سال داری؟»
9Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred thirty years. Few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.”

یعقوب گفت: «سالهای عمرم كه به سختی و در سرگردانی گذشته است صد و سی سال است كه البته به سن اجدادم نرسیده است.»
10Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from the presence of Pharaoh.

سپس یعقوب از فرعون خداحافظی كرد و از پیش او رفت.
11Joseph placed his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

یوسف همان طوری كه فرعون دستور داده بود، پدر و برادرانش را در مصر در بهترین زمینهای آنجا در نزدیكی شهر رعمسیس سكونت داد و در آنجا، املاكی را به ایشان بخشید.
12Joseph nourished his father, his brothers, and all of his father’s household, with bread, according to their families.

یوسف برای پدر و برادرانش و تمام اعضای خانوادهٔ آنها برابر تعدادشان آذوقه تهیّه كرد.
13There was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.

قحطی به قدری شدید شده بود كه در هیچجا خوراک نبود. مردم مصر و كنعان گرسنه و بینوا شدند.
14Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.

یوسف تمام پولهای آنها را در مقابل فروش غلّه از آنها گرفته و به خزانهٔ فرعون گذاشته بود.
15When the money was all spent in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph, and said, “Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For our money fails.”

وقتی تمام پولها در مصر و كنعان تمام شد، مصریها به نزد یوسف آمدند و گفتند: «پول ما تمام شده. تو به ما خوراک بده و كاری بكن كه ما از گرسنگی نمیریم.»
16Joseph said, “Give me your livestock; and I will give you food for your livestock, if your money is gone.”

یوسف گفت: «اگر پول شما تمام شده، حیوانات خود را بیاورید و من در عوض آنها به شما غلّه میدهم.»
17They brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the donkeys: and he fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock for that year.

بنابراین آنها حیوانات خود را پیش یوسف آوردند و یوسف در مقابل اسب و گوسفند و بُز و گاو و الاغ به آنها غلّه میداد. در آن سال یوسف در مقابل حیوانات به ایشان غلّه داد و آنها را سیر نمود.
18When that year was ended, they came to him the second year, and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord how our money is all spent, and the herds of livestock are my lord’s. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands.

سال بعد دوباره آنها نزد یوسف آمدند و گفتند: «ای آقا، ما حقیقت را از تو پنهان نمیكنیم، پول ما تمام شده و همهٔ حیوانات ما هم مال شماست. دیگر به غیراز بدنها و زمینهایمان چیزی نداریم كه به تو بدهیم.
19Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh. Give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land won’t be desolate.”

بیا خود ما و زمینهای ما را هم به عوض غلّه بخر و مگذار مزارع ما از بین بروند. ما غلامان فرعون خواهیم شد و زمینهای ما هم مال فرعون باشد، به ما غلّه بده تا بخوریم و نمیریم و در مزارع خود بكاریم تا زمین از بین نروند.»
20So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe on them, and the land became Pharaoh’s.

یوسف تمام زمینهای مصر را برای فرعون خرید و همهٔ مصریان مجبور شدند كه زمینهای خود را بفروشند. چون قحطی بسیار شدید شده بود. به این ترتیب تمام زمینها جزو املاک فرعون شد.
21As for the people, he moved them to the cities from one end of the border of Egypt even to the other end of it.

یوسف، مردم مصر -از كوچک تا بزرگ- همه را به غلامی فرعون در آورد.
22Only he didn’t buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and ate their portion which Pharaoh gave them. That is why they didn’t sell their land.
22
تنها زمینی را كه یوسف نخرید، زمین كاهنان بود. آنها لازم نبود زمین خود را بفروشند، چون از طرف فرعون سهمیهای برای آنها معیّن شده بود.
23Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh. Behold, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land.

یوسف به مردم گفت: «ببینید، من شما و زمینهای شما را برای فرعون خریدهام. اینجا بذر برای شما موجود است تا در زمینهای خود بكارید.
24It will happen at the harvests, that you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four parts will be your own, for seed of the field, for your food, for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.”

ولی موقع درو باید یک پنجم محصول را به فرعون بدهید و بقیّهٔ بذر برای كاشتن و خوراک خود و خانوادهتان باشد.»
25They said, “You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”

آنها در جواب یوسف گفتند: «ای آقا، تو در حق ما نیكی كردی و جان ما را نجات دادی. حالا همهٔ ما غلامان فرعون خواهیم بود.»
26Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth. Only the land of the priests alone didn’t become Pharaoh’s.

پس یوسف این را در سرزمین مصر قانونی كرد كه یک پنجم محصول باید به فرعون داده شود. این قانون هنوز هم در مصر باقی است؛ به غیراز زمین كاهنان كه جزء املاک فرعون نبود.
27Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen; and they got themselves possessions therein, and were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly.

بنیاسرائیل در مصر در منطقهٔ جوشن زندگی كردند -جاییکه ثروتمند و صاحب فرزندان بسیار شدند-
28Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were one hundred forty-seven years.
28
یعقوب مدّت هفده سال در مصر زندگی كرد و در آن زمان صد و چهل و هفت سال داشت.
29The time drew near that Israel must die, and he called his son Joseph, and said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please don’t bury me in Egypt,

وقتی زمان مرگش رسید فرزندش یوسف را صدا كرد و گفت: «دست خود را وسط ران من بگذار و برای من قسم بخور كه مرا در زمین مصر دفن نكنی.
30but when I sleep with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burying place.” He said, “I will do as you have said.”

من آرزو دارم پیش اجدادم دفن شوم. مرا از مصر ببر و در جاییکه آنها دفن شدهاند به خاک بسپار.»
یوسف گفت: «هرچه گفتی من همانطور انجام خواهم داد.»
یعقوب گفت: «قسم بخور.» یوسف قسم خورد. پس یعقوب درحالیکه در بستر خود بود از یوسف تشكّر كرد.
31He said, “Swear to me,” and he swore to him. Israel bowed himself on the bed’s head.
