1It happened, when men began to multiply on the surface of the ground, and daughters were born to them,

وقتی تعداد آدمیان در روی زمین زیاد شد و دختران متولّد شدند،
2that God’s sons saw that men’s daughters were beautiful, and they took for themselves wives of all that they chose.

پسران خدا، دیدند كه دختران آدمیان چقدر زیبا هستند. پس هر كدام را كه دوست داشتند، به همسری خود گرفتند.
3Yahweh said, “My Spirit will not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; yet will his days be one hundred twenty years.”

پس خداوند فرمود: «روح من برای همیشه در انسان فانی، باقی نخواهد ماند. از این به بعد، طول عمر او یک صد و بیست سال خواهد بود.»
4The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when God’s sons came in to men’s daughters. They bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

در آن روزها و بعد از آن، مردان قوی هیكلی از نسل دختران آدمیان و پسران خدا به وجود آمدند كه دلاوران بزرگ و مشهوری در زمان قدیم شدند.
5Yahweh saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

وقتی خداوند دید كه چگونه تمام مردم روی زمین، شریر شدهاند و تمام افكار آنها فكرهای گناهآلود است،
6Yahweh was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him in his heart.

از اینكه انسان را آفریده و در روی زمین گذاشته بود، متأسف و بسیار غمگین شد.
7Yahweh said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the surface of the ground; man, along with animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.”

پس فرمود: «من این مردم و چارپایان و خزندگان و پرندگانی را كه آفریدهام، نابود خواهم كرد. زیرا از اینکه آنها را آفریدهام، متأسف هستم.»
8But Noah found favor in Yahweh’s eyes.

امّا خداوند از نوح راضی بود.
9This is the history of the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.

داستان زندگی نوح از این قرار بود: نوح سه پسر داشت به نامهای سام، حام و یافث. او در زمان خود مردی عادل و پرهیزكار بود و همیشه با خدا ارتباط داشت.
10Noah became the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

امّا تمام مردم در حضور خدا گناهكار بودند و ظلم و ستم همهجا را پُر كرده بود.
11The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

خدا دید كه مردم زمین فاسد شدهاند و همه راه فساد پیش گرفتهاند.
12God saw the earth, and saw that it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.

خدا به نوح فرمود: «تصمیم گرفتهام بشر را از بین ببرم. چون ظلم و فساد آنها دنیا را پُر كرده است، بنابراین من ایشان را همراه با زمین نابود خواهم كرد.
13God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before me, for the earth is filled with violence through them. Behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

«تو برای خودت یک كشتی از چوب درخت سرو بساز كه چندین اتاق داشته باشد. داخل و خارج آن را با قیر بپوشان.
14Make a ship of gopher wood. You shall make rooms in the ship, and shall seal it inside and outside with pitch.

آن را اینطور بساز: درازای آن صد و پنجاه متر، پهنای آن بیست و پنج متر و ارتفاع آن پانزده متر.
15This is how you shall make it. The length of the ship will be three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits.

پنجرهای هم نزدیک سقف در حدود نیممتر بساز و در كشتی را در كنار آن قرار بده. كشتی را طوری بساز كه دارای سه طبقه باشد.
16You shall make a roof in the ship, and you shall finish it to a cubit upward. You shall set the door of the ship in its side. You shall make it with lower, second, and third levels.

«من توفان و باران شدید بر زمین خواهم فرستاد تا همهٔ جانداران هلاک گردند و هرچه بر روی زمین است بمیرد.
17I, even I, do bring the flood of waters on this earth, to destroy all flesh having the breath of life from under the sky. Everything that is in the earth will die.
17
امّا با تو پیمان میبندم. تو به اتّفاق پسرانت و همسرت و عروسهایت به كشتی داخل میشوی.
18But I will establish my covenant with you. You shall come into the ship, you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.

از تمام حیوانات یعنی پرندگان، چارپایان و خزندگان یک جفت نر و ماده با خودت به كشتی ببر تا آنها را زنده نگاهداری.
19Of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ship, to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female.
19
از هر نوع غذا برای خودت و برای آنها با خود بردار.»
نوح هرچه خدا به او دستور داده بود، انجام داد.
20Of the birds after their kind, of the livestock after their kind, of every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, two of every sort shall come to you, to keep them alive.

نوح هرچه خدا به او دستور داده بود، انجام داد.
21Take with you of all food that is eaten, and gather it to yourself; and it will be for food for you, and for them.”
22Thus Noah did. According to all that God commanded him, so he did.
