¹Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Yahweh, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

¹ وقتی فحشور کاهن، پسر امیر، که رئیس محافظان معبد بزرگ بود پیام مرا شنید،

²Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Yahweh.

² دستور داد مرا بزنند و نزدیک دروازهٔ فوقانی بنیامین در معبد بزرگ مرا با کُنده و زنجیر ببندند.

³It happened on the next day, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, Yahweh has not called your name Pashhur, but Magormissabib.

³ صبح روز بعد، وقتی فحشور مرا از بند رها کرد به او گفتم: «فحشور نامی نیست که خداوند به تو داده باشد. او تو را 'وحشت از هر طرف' نامیده است.

⁴For thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself, and to all your friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes shall see it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall kill them with the sword.

⁴ خداوند خودش گفته: «من تو را موجب وحشت خودت و دوستانت خواهم ساخت؛ و تو خواهی دید چگونه همهٔ آنها با شمشیر دشمنانشان کشته می‌شوند. من تمام مردم یهودا را تسلیم پادشاه بابل خواهم کرد؛ او گروهی را به اسارت می‌برد و عدّه‌ای را خواهد کشت.

⁵Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all its gains, and all the precious things of it, yes, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

⁵ من همچنین اجازه خواهم داد تا دشمنان تمام ثروت شهر را غارت، و دارایی‌ها و املاک آنها -و حتّی دخایر پادشاهان یهودا- را گرفته و همه‌چیز را به بابل منتقل کنند.

⁶You, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house shall go into captivity; and you shall come to Babylon, and there you shall die, and there you shall be buried, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.

⁶ تو هم همین‌طور، ای فحشور، خودت و خانواده‌ات به اسارت افتاده و به بابل برده خواهید شد. تو در آنجا خواهی مُرد و همراه دوستانت که دروغهای بسیار به آنها گفته‌ای، دفن خواهی شد.»

⁷Yahweh, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded; you are stronger than I, and have prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocks me.

⁷ ای خداوند تو مرا فریب دادی و فریب خوردم تو از من قویتر هستی و بر من غالب شده‌ای. همه مرا مسخره می‌کنند و تمام روز به من می‌خندند.

⁸For as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of Yahweh is made a reproach to me, and a derision, all the day.

⁸ هر جا سخن می‌گویم باید فریاد بزنم و با صدای بلند بگویم: «خشونت! ویرانی!» ای خداوند، به‌خاطر اعلام پیام تو، من دایماً مورد استهزاء و تحقیر دیگران هستم.

⁹If I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I can’t.

⁹ هرگاه می‌گویم: «من خداوند را فراموش می‌کنم و دیگر از جانب او سخنی نخواهم گفت،» آنگاه پیام تو مثل آتشی اعماق وجود مرا می‌سوزاند. می‌کوشم در برابر آن مقاومت بکنم، امّا توانایی آن را ندارم.

¹⁰For I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, those who watch for my fall; perhaps he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

¹⁰ می‌شنوم که همه نجواکنان می‌گویند: «وحشت همه‌جا را فراگرفته است، بیایید از دست او به مقامات شکایت کنیم.» حتّی دوستان نزدیک من در انتظار سقوط من می‌باشند. آنها می‌گویند: «شاید بتوان او را فریب داد و به دام انداخت تا از او انتقام بگیرم.»

¹¹But Yahweh is with me as an awesome mighty one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly disappointed, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.

¹¹ امّا تو ای خداوندِ قادر و توانا، با من هستی، و آنها که به من جفا می‌کنند خواهند افتاد. آنها برای همیشه رسوا خواهند شد، چون نمی‌توانند موفّق شوند. شرمساری آنها هیچ وقت فراموش نخواهد شد.

¹²But, Yahweh of Armies, who tests the righteous, who sees the heart and the mind, let me see your vengeance on them; for to you have I revealed my cause.

¹² امّا تو، ای خداوند متعال، انسانها را به طور عادلانه می‌سنجی، تو از دلها و ذهنهای آنها آگاهی. پس بگذار تا ببینم چگونه از دشمنانم انتقام می‌گیری، چون من این را به دستهای تو واگذار می‌کنم.

¹³Sing to Yahweh, praise Yahweh; for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evildoers.

¹³ در حمد خداوند بسرایید، خداوند را ستایش کنید! او مظلومان را از دست ستمکاران خلاص می‌کند.

¹⁴Cursed is the day in which I was born: don’t let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.

¹⁴ لعنت بر آن روزی که من به دنیا آمدم! و نفرین بر روزی باد که مادرم مرا زایید!

¹⁵Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying, A boy is born to you; making him very glad.

¹⁵ لعنت بر کسی که مژدهٔ تولّد مرا به پدرم رسانید و به او گفت: «فرزندت به دنیا آمد، او پسر است.»

¹⁶Let that man be as the cities which Yahweh overthrew, and didn’t repent: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime;

¹⁶ کاش او هم گرفتار سرنوشت همان شهرهایی شود که خداوند بدون ترحّم از بین برد. باشد که او هر صبحگاه فریادهای وحشت‌آور و هنگام ظهر شیپور جنگ را بشنود،

¹⁷because he didn’t kill me from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.

¹⁷ چون او قبل از تولّدم مرا نکشت تا رحم مادرم قبر من شود. چرا من به دنیا آمدم؟ آیا برای تحمّل غم و ناراحتی و با شرمساری مُردن به این دنیا آمدم؟

¹⁸Why came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

¹⁸ چرا من به دنیا آمدم؟ آیا برای تحمّل غم و ناراحتی و با شرمساری مُردن به این دنیا آمدم؟
