¹Yahweh showed me, and behold, two baskets of figs set before Yahweh’s temple, after that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and the princes of Judah, with the craftsmen and smiths, from Jerusalem, and had brought them to Babylon.

¹ بعد از آن که نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل، یهویاکین پادشاه یهودا پسر یهویاقیم را به همراه رهبران یهودا، صنعتگران و کارگران ماهر به اسارت به بابل برد، خداوند در رؤیا دو سبد انجیر را به من نشان داد که در جلوی معبد بزرگ گذاشته شده بود.

²One basket had very good figs, like the figs that are first-ripe; and the other basket had very bad figs, which could not be eaten, they were so bad.

² سبد اول پر از انجیرهای خوب و زودرس بود، ولی انجیرهای سبد دوم همه خراب و غیرقابل خوردن بودند.

³Then Yahweh said to me, What do you see, Jeremiah? I said, Figs; the good figs, very good; and the bad, very bad, that can’t be eaten, they are so bad.

³ آنگاه خداوند به من گفت: «ای ارمیا، چه می‌بینی؟» جواب دادم: «انجیر می‌بینم. انجیرهای خوب بسیار خوبند، و انجیرهای بد آن‌قدر بد هستند که کسی نمی‌تواند آنها را بخورد.»

⁴The word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

⁴ پس از آن، خداوند به من گفت:

⁵Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: Like these good figs, so will I regard the captives of Judah, whom I have sent out of this place into the land of the Chaldeans, for good.

⁵ «از نظر من، خداوند خدای اسرائیل کسانی‌که به بابل برده شده‌اند، مثل این انجیرهای خوب هستند و من با آنها مهربان خواهم بود.»

⁶For I will set my eyes on them for good, and I will bring them again to this land: and I will build them, and not pull them down; and I will plant them, and not pluck them up.

⁶ من مواظب آنها خواهم بود و آنها را به این سرزمین برمی‌گردانم. من آنها را بنا می‌کنم و مانع ویرانی آنها خواهم شد، من آنها را مثل نهالی خواهم کاشت و نخواهم گذاشت ریشه‌کن شوند.

⁷I will give them a heart to know me, that I am Yahweh: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God; for they shall return to me with their whole heart.

⁷ به آنها این اشتیاق را خواهم داد که بدانند من خداوند هستم. در آن صورت آنها قوم من و من خدای آنها خواهم بود و آنها از صمیم قلب به سوی من بازمی‌گردند.

⁸As the bad figs, which can’t be eaten, they are so bad, surely thus says Yahweh, So will I give up Zedekiah the king of Judah, and his princes, and the residue of Jerusalem, who remain in this land, and those who dwell in the land of Egypt,

⁸ «امّا دربارهٔ صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا و سیاستمداران اطراف او، و بقیّهٔ مردم اورشلیم که در این سرزمین مانده‌اند و یا به مصر رفته‌اند؛ من، خداوند با آنها مثل انجیرهای خرابی رفتار می‌کنم که غیرقابل خوردن هستند.

⁹I will even give them up to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth for evil; to be a reproach and a proverb, a taunt and a curse, in all places where I shall drive them.

⁹ آنها را به چنان مصیبتی گرفتار می‌کنم که باعث غیرت تمام ملّتها باشد. آنها موجب تفریح، شوخی و مسخره مردم خواهند بود و اسم آنها در هر جا که ایشان را پراکنده کنم، مثل لعن و نفرین خواهد بود. من جنگ و گرسنگی و بیماری نصیبشان خواهم ساخت تا اینکه هیچ‌یک از آنها در سرزمینی که به آنها و به اجدادشان داده بودم، باقی نمانند.»

¹⁰I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, until they be consumed from off the land that I gave to them and to their fathers.

¹⁰ من جنگ و گرسنگی و بیماری نصیبشان خواهم ساخت تا اینکه هیچ‌یک از آنها در سرزمینی که به آنها و به اجدادشان داده بودم، باقی نمانند.»
