¹The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and all his army, and all the kingdoms of the earth that were under his dominion, and all the peoples, were fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of it, saying:

¹ هنگامی‌که نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل و ارتش او با حمایت نیروهای ملّتها و نژادهای زیر سلطهٔ او به اورشلیم و شهرهای اطراف آن حمله می‌کردند، خداوند با من سخن گفت.

²Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, Go, and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus says Yahweh, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:

² خداوند از من خواست به نزد صدقیا، پادشاه یهودا بروم و به او بگویم: «من، خداوند، این شهر را تسلیم پادشاه بابل خواهم کرد و او تمام آن را به آتش خواهد کشید.

³and you shall not escape out of his hand, but shall surely be taken, and delivered into his hand; and your eyes shall see the eyes of the king of Babylon, and he shall speak with you mouth to mouth, and you shall go to Babylon.

³ راه فراری برای تو نخواهد بود. تو را دستگیر و تحویل او خواهند داد. تو با او روبه‌رو می‌شوی و با او صحبت خواهی کرد. بعد از آن به بابل خواهی رفت.

⁴Yet hear the word of Yahweh, O Zedekiah king of Judah: thus says Yahweh concerning you, You shall not die by the sword;

⁴ ای صدقیا، به آنچه دربارهٔ تو می‌گویم گوش کن. تو در جنگ کشته نخواهی شد.

⁵you shall die in peace; and with the burnings of your fathers, the former kings who were before you, so shall they make a burning for you; and they shall lament you, saying, Ah Lord! for I have spoken the word, says Yahweh.

⁵ تو در آرامش خواهی مرد و مردم به همان‌گونه که در وقت خاکسپاری اجداد تو که قبل از تو پادشاهان این سرزمین بودند، بُخور می‌سوزانیدند، برای تو نیز بُخور خواهند سوزانید. آنها برای تو عزا خواهند گرفت و خواهند گفت: 'پادشاه ما درگذشت' من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

⁶Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem,

⁶ پس من این پیام را در اورشلیم به صدقیای پادشاه دادم.

⁷when the king of Babylon’s army was fighting against Jerusalem, and against all the cities of Judah that were left, against Lachish and against Azekah; for these alone remained of the cities of Judah as fortified cities.

⁷ این در زمانی بود که ارتش پادشاه بابل در حال حمله به اورشلیم بود. ارتش بابل همچنین در حال حمله به شهرهای لاکیش و عزیقه بود. این دو شهر تنها شهرهای باقیمانده در یهودا بودند که بُرج و باروی مستحکمی داشتند.

⁸The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were at Jerusalem, to proclaim liberty to them;

⁸ صدقیای پادشاه و مردم اورشلیم موافقت کردند که

⁹that every man should let his male servant, and every man his female servant, who is a Hebrew or a Hebrewess, go free; that none should make bondservants of them, of a Jew his brother.

⁹ بردگان یهودی خود را -‌چه مرد و چه زن- آزاد سازند و دیگر هیچ اسرائیلی از هموطن یهودی خود کسی را به بردگی نگیرد.

¹⁰All the princes and all the people obeyed, who had entered into the covenant, that everyone should let his male servant, and everyone his female servant, go free, that none should make bondservants of them any more; they obeyed, and let them go:

¹⁰ تمام مردم و رهبران آنها موافقت کردند که بردگان خود را آزاد کنند و دیگر آنها را به بردگی وادار نکنند. پس آنها را آزاد ساختند.

¹¹but afterwards they turned, and caused the servants and the handmaids, whom they had let go free, to return, and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids.

¹¹ امّا بعد از مدّتی نظرشان عوض شد، بردگان را پس گرفتند و آنها را وادار کردند دوباره بردگی کنند

¹²Therefore the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

¹² آنگاه خداوند،

¹³Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, saying,

¹³ خدای اسرائیل به من فرمود به مردم بگویم: «من وقتی اجداد شما را از مصر خلاص کردم و آنها را از بردگی آزاد ساختم، با آنها پیمانی بستم؛ به‌ آنها گفتم که

¹⁴At the end of seven years you shall let go every man his brother who is a Hebrew, who has been sold to you, and has served you six years, you shall let him go free from you: but your fathers didn’t listen to me, neither inclined their ear.

¹⁴ هر هفت سال یک‌بار، تمام بردگان یهودی را که شش سال خدمت کرده‌اند، آزاد سازند. امّا اجداد شما نخواستند به من توجّهی کنند و به آنچه می‌گویم گوش دهند.

¹⁵You had now turned, and had done that which is right in my eyes, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbor; and you had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name:

¹⁵ همین چند روز پیش بود که شما فکر خود را عوض کردید و آنچه مرا خشنود می‌ساخت بجا آوردید، یعنی همهٔ شما موافقت کردید بردگان یهودی خود را آزاد سازید، و در حضور من در معبدی که مرا می‌پرستید پیمان بستید.

¹⁶but you turned and profaned my name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom you had let go free at their pleasure, to return; and you brought them into subjection, to be to you for servants and for handmaids.

¹⁶ امّا بار دیگر نظرتان عوض شد و نسبت به من بی‌حرمتی کردید. شما همهٔ بردگانی را که در آرزوی آزادی بودند، پس گرفتید و آنها را دوباره مجبور به بردگی کردید.

¹⁷Therefore thus says Yahweh: you have not listened to me, to proclaim liberty, every man to his brother, and every man to his neighbor: behold, I proclaim to you a liberty, says Yahweh, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be tossed back and forth among all the kingdoms of the earth.

¹⁷ پس، اکنون من، خداوند، می‌گویم که شما از دستور من اطاعت نکرده و هم‌کیشان خود را از بردگی آزاد نکردید. بسیار خوب، من به شما آزادی می‌دهم، آزادی مُردن در جنگ، یا در بیماری و یا در گرسنگی. تمام ملّتهای جهان از آنچه به روز شما خواهم آورد در وحشت خواهند بود.

¹⁸I will give the men who have transgressed my covenant, who have not performed the words of the covenant which they made before me, when they cut the calf in two and passed between its parts;

¹⁸ بزرگان یهودا و اورشلیم به همراه درباریان، کاهنان و رهبران قوم با عبور از وسط دو شقّهٔ گاوی که کشته بودند، با من پیمان بستند. امّا آنها پیمان را شکستند و مفاد آن را رعایت نکردند. پس من هم با آنها همان معامله‌ای را خواهم کرد که آنها با آن گاو کردند.

¹⁹the princes of Judah, and the princes of Jerusalem, the eunuchs, and the priests, and all the people of the land, who passed between the parts of the calf;

¹⁹ آنها را تسلیم دشمنانشان خواهم کرد تا آنها را بکشند و اجساد آنها طعمهٔ پرندگان و حیوانات وحشی خواهد شد.

²⁰I will even give them into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life; and their dead bodies shall be for food to the birds of the sky, and to the animals of the earth.

²⁰ من همچنین صدقیا پادشاه یهودا و درباریان او را تسلیم کسانی خواهم کرد که خواهان مرگ آنها هستند. من آنها را تسلیم ارتش بابل خواهم کرد، ارتشی که فعلاً از حمله دست برداشته است. من دستور خواهم داد و آنها دوباره به این شهر برخواهند گشت. آنها حمله خواهند کرد و شهر را تسخیر می‌کنند و آن را به آتش خواهند کشید و من شهرهای یهودا را به کویری غیرقابل سکونت تبدیل خواهم کرد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

²¹Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those who seek their life, and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army, who have gone away from you.

²¹ من دستور خواهم داد و آنها دوباره به این شهر برخواهند گشت. آنها حمله خواهند کرد و شهر را تسخیر می‌کنند و آن را به آتش خواهند کشید و من شهرهای یهودا را به کویری غیرقابل سکونت تبدیل خواهم کرد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

²²Behold, I will command, says Yahweh, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.
