¹The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, saying,

¹ در زمانی که یهویاقیم، پسر یوشیا، پادشاه یهودا بود، خداوند به من گفت:

²Go to the house of the Rechabites, and speak to them, and bring them into the house of Yahweh, into one of the rooms, and give them wine to drink.

² «نزد خاندان رکابیان برو و با آنها صحبت کن. بعد آنها را به داخل یکی از اتاقهای معبد بزرگ ببر و با شراب از آنها پذیرایی کن.»

³Then I took Jaazaniah the son of Jeremiah, the son of Habazziniah, and his brothers, and all his sons, and the whole house of the Rechabites;

³ پس من تمام خاندان رکابیان -‌یعنی یازنیا، پسر ارمیا (یک ارمیای دیگر، پسر حبصنیا) و برادرانش و پسرانش‌-

⁴and I brought them into the house of Yahweh, into the room of the sons of Hanan the son of Igdaliah, the man of God, which was by the room of the princes, which was above the room of Maaseiah the son of Shallum, the keeper of the threshold.

⁴ همه را به معبد بزرگ آوردم و آنها را به اتاق شاگردان حانان نبی پسر یجدلیا بردم. این غرفه در بالای اتاق معسیا پسر شلوم -‌کارمند عالیرتبهٔ معبد بزرگ- و نزدیک اتاقهای بقیّهٔ محافظین معبد بزرگ قرار داشت.

⁵I set before the sons of the house of the Rechabites bowls full of wine, and cups; and I said to them, Drink wine!

⁵ آنگاه پیاله‌ها و جامهای پر از شراب را در برابر رکابیان نهادم و از آنها خواستم بنوشند.»

⁶But they said, We will drink no wine; for Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, commanded us, saying, You shall drink no wine, neither you, nor your sons, forever:

⁶ امّا آنها در پاسخ گفتند: «ما شراب نمی‌نوشیم. جدّ ما، یوناداب -‌پسر رکاب- به ما گفته است که ما و فرزندان ما نباید شراب بنوشیم.

⁷neither shall you build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any; but all your days you shall dwell in tents; that you may live many days in the land in which you live.

⁷ او همچنین به ما دستور داده است از ساختن خانه، ایجاد مزرعه و تاکستان و خرید آنها خودداری کنیم. او به ما دستور داده، همیشه در چادر زندگی کنیم؛ چون ما در این سرزمین مثل غریبان زندگی می‌کنیم.

⁸We have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he commanded us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;

⁸ ما تمام دستورات یوناداب را اطاعت کرده‌ایم. خودمان هیچ شراب نمی‌خوریم و همین‌طور زنان، پسران و دختران ما.

⁹nor to build houses for us to dwell in; neither have we vineyard, nor field, nor seed:

⁹ ما خانه‌ای برای زندگی نمی‌سازیم، در چادرها زندگی می‌کنیم. ما نه مالک تاکستانی هستیم و نه مالک مزرعه‌ای برای غلاّت. ما به طور کامل از دستوراتی که جدّ ما یوناداب‌ به ما داده پیروی می‌کنیم.

¹⁰but we have lived in tents, and have obeyed, and done according to all that Jonadab our father commanded us.

¹⁰ امّا وقتی نبوکدنصر پادشاه به کشور حمله کرد، ما تصمیم گرفتیم به اورشلیم بیاییم و از ارتش‌های بابل و سوریه دور بمانیم. این است دلیلی که ما امروز در اورشلیم هستیم.

¹¹But it happened, when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians; so we dwell at Jerusalem.

¹¹ آنگاه خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، به من گفت که بروم و به مردم یهودا و اورشلیم بگویم، «من، خداوند، از شما می‌پرسم چرا به من گوش ندادید و از دستورات من اطاعت نکردید؟

¹²Then came the word of Yahweh to Jeremiah, saying,

¹² فرزندان و نسلهای یوناداب دستورات او را دربارهٔ نخوردن شراب اطاعت کردند و تا به امروز هیچ‌یک از آنها شراب نمی‌خورد. امّا من مکرراً با شما سخن گفتم و شما از من اطاعت نکردید.

¹³Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Go, and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will you not receive instruction to listen to my words? says Yahweh.

¹³ من بندگان خودم -‌یعنی انبیا‌- را برای شما می‌فرستادم و آنها به شما گفته‌اند که باید روش‌های شرارت‌آمیز خود را ترک کنید و آنچه را راست و درست است، انجام دهید. آنها شما را از پرستش و خدمت به خدایان دیگر برحذر داشتند تا شما بتوانید در سرزمینی که به شما و به اجداد شما دادم، به زندگی خود ادامه دهید. امّا شما به من گوش نمی‌دادید و به من توجّهی نمی‌کردید.

¹⁴The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; and to this day they drink none, for they obey their father’s commandment: but I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; and you have not listened to me.

¹⁴ فرزندان یوناداب دستوراتی که جدّشان به آنها داد اطاعت کردند، امّا شما از من اطاعت نکرده‌اید.

¹⁵I have sent also to you all my servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, Return now every man from his evil way, and amend your doings, and don’t go after other gods to serve them, and you shall dwell in the land which I have given to you and to your fathers: but you have not inclined your ear, nor listened to me.

¹⁵ پس اکنون من، خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، مردم یهودا و اورشلیم را گرفتار مصیبتی خواهم کرد که قبلاً دربارهٔ آن گفته‌ بودم. من این کار را می‌کنم چون وقتی با شما سخن گفتم، گوش ندادید؛ و وقتی شما را خواندم، پاسخ ندادید.

¹⁶Because the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their father which he commanded them, but this people has not listened to me;

¹⁶ بعد از آن به خاندان رکابیان گفتم که خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، گفته است: «شما از دستورات جدّ خودتان یوناداب اطاعت کرده‌اید و از تمام تعالیم او پیروی کرده‌اید؛ و هرچه را که او گفته بود، بجا آورده‌اید. پس من خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، قول می‌دهم که یوناداب پسر رکاب همیشه فرزند ذکوری برای خدمت من خواهد داشت.»

¹⁷therefore thus says Yahweh, the God of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will bring on Judah and on all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them; because I have spoken to them, but they have not heard; and I have called to them, but they have not answered.

¹⁷ پس من خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، قول می‌دهم که یوناداب پسر رکاب همیشه فرزند ذکوری برای خدمت من خواهد داشت.»

¹⁸Jeremiah said to the house of the Rechabites, Thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Because you have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according to all that he commanded you;

¹⁹therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me forever.
