¹It happened in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,

¹ در چهارمین سال سلطنت یهویاقیم، پادشاه یهودا، خداوند به من گفت:

²Take a scroll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.

² «طوماری بردار و هرچه را که تاکنون دربارهٔ اسرائیل و یهودا به تو گفته‌ام بر آن بنویس. همهٔ چیزهایی را که از ابتدا -‌از زمان یوشیا تا به امروز‌- به تو گفته‌ام بنویس.

³It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do to them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin.

³ شاید وقتی مردم یهودا دربارهٔ مصیبتی که من برایشان می‌آورم بشنوند، از راه شرارت‌آمیز خود بازگردند. آنگاه من شرارتها و گناهانشان را خواهم بخشید.»

⁴Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah; and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of Yahweh, which he had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.

⁴ پس من باروک، پسر نیریا را خواندم و هر آنچه را خداوند گفته بود، به او گفتم تا او بنویسد. و باروک تمام آنها را بر روی طومار نوشت.

⁵Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I can’t go into the house of Yahweh:

⁵ پس از آن من به باروک چنین گفتم: «من دیگر اجازه ندارم وارد معبد بزرگ شوم.

⁶therefore you go, and read in the scroll, which you have written from my mouth, the words of Yahweh in the ears of the people in Yahweh’s house on the fast day; and also you shall read them in the ears of all Judah who come out of their cities.

⁶ امّا می‌خواهم تو، وقتی مردم در روزه هستند، به آنجا بروی و این طومار را بلند بخوانی تا همهٔ آنها آنچه را که خداوند به من گفته و تو آن را نوشته‌ای بشنوند. در جایی این را بخوان که همهٔ مردم، از جمله اهالی یهودا که از شهرهای خودشان آمده‌اند، بتوانند بشنوند.

⁷It may be they will present their supplication before Yahweh, and will return everyone from his evil way; for great is the anger and the wrath that Yahweh has pronounced against this people.

⁷ شاید آنها به حضور خداوند دعا کنند و از راههای شرارت‌آمیز خود بازگردند، وگرنه گرفتار خشم و غضب شدید خداوند خواهند شد.»

⁸Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Yahweh in Yahweh’s house.

⁸ باروک همان‌طور که به او گفته بودم، پیامهای خداوند را در معبد بزرگ خواند.

⁹Now it happened in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, that all the people in Jerusalem, and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem, proclaimed a fast before Yahweh.

⁹ در ماه نهم از پنجمین سال سلطنت یهویاقیم، پادشاه یهودا، مردم اورشلیم و کسانی‌که از شهرهای یهودا آمده بودند، همه برای جلب رضایت خداوند روزه گرفته بودند.

¹⁰Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of Yahweh, in the room of Gemariah the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper court, at the entry of the new gate of Yahweh’s house, in the ears of all the people.

¹⁰ پس وقتی همه گوش می‌دادند، باروک از روی طومار، آنچه را به او گفته بودم خواند. او این کار را در اتاق جمریا پسر شافان منشی دربار انجام داد. غرفهٔ او در صحن بالایی نزدیک در ورودی دروازهٔ جدید بود.

¹¹When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of Yahweh,

¹¹ میکایا، پسر جمریا و نوهٔ شافال، سخنان خداوند را که از روی طومار به وسیلهٔ باروک خوانده شد، شنید.

¹²he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s room: and behold, all the princes were sitting there, Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

¹² بعد از آن او به کاخ سلطنتی، به دفتر منشی دربار، جایی که درباریان در آن جلسه داشتند، رفت. الیشمع منشی، دلایا پسر شمعیا، الناتان، پسر عکبور، جمریا پسر شافان، و صدقیا پسر حنیا در آن جلسه حضور داشتند.

¹³Then Micaiah declared to them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

¹³ میکایا آنچه را باروک از روی طومار خوانده بود، برای آنها بازگو کرد.

¹⁴Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, Take in your hand the scroll in which you have read in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand, and came to them.

¹⁴ آنگاه آنها شخصی را به نام یهودی (پسر ننیا نوهٔ شلمیا و نبیرهٔ کوشی) نزد باروک فرستادند تا طوماری را که او برای مردم خوانده بود بیاورد. باروک طومار را آورد.

¹⁵They said to him, Sit down now, and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

¹⁵ آنها از او خواستند بنشیند و طومار را برای آنها بخواند، پس باروک آن را خواند.

¹⁶Now it happened, when they had heard all the words, they turned in fear one toward another, and said to Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

¹⁶ بعد از آن‌همه با وحشت به یکدیگر نگاه کردند و به باروک گفتند: «ما باید این را به پادشاه گزارش دهیم.»

¹⁷They asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How did you write all these words at his mouth?

¹⁷ بعد به او گفتند: «به ما بگو، چه چیزی تو را به نوشتن چنین طوماری هدایت کرد؟ آیا ارمیا متن آن را به تو داد؟»

¹⁸Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words to me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

¹⁸ باروک گفت: «ارمیا کلمه به کلمه آن را به من گفت و من آن را بر روی این طومار نوشتم.»

¹⁹Then the princes said to Baruch, Go, hide, you and Jeremiah; and let no man know where you are.

¹⁹ پس از آن، آنها به او گفتند: «تو و ارمیا باید بروید و خودتان در جایی پنهان کنید و به هیچ‌کس نگویید کجا هستید.»

²⁰They went in to the king into the court; but they had laid up the scroll in the room of Elishama the scribe; and they told all the words in the ears of the king.

²⁰ بزرگان دربار طومار را در دفتر الیشمع، منشی دربار، گذاشتند و به کاخ سلطنتی رفتند تا همه‌چیز را به پادشاه گزارش دهند.

²¹So the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll; and he took it out of the room of Elishama the scribe. Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood beside the king.

²¹ آنگاه پادشاه، یهودی را فرستاد تا طومار را بیاورد. او طومار را از دفتر الیشمع آورد و آن را برای پادشاه و تمام درباریانی که اطراف او ایستاده بودند، خواند.

²²Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month: and there was a fire in the brazier burning before him.

²² آن وقت زمستان بود و پادشاه در کاخ زمستانی در برابر آتش نشسته بود.

²³It happened, when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, that the king cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

²³ یهودی هنوز بیش از سه یا چهار ردیف را نخوانده بود که پادشاه آن را با چاقوی کوچکی پاره کرد و به داخل آتش انداخت. او این کار را ادامه داد تا تمام طومار در آتش سوخت.

²⁴They were not afraid, nor tore their garments, neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words.

²⁴ نه پادشاه و نه درباریان از شنیدن آن دچار واهمه‌ای شدند، و تأسفی نیز از خود نشان ندادند.

²⁵Moreover Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah had made intercession to the king that he would not burn the scroll; but he would not hear them.

²⁵ گرچه الناتان، دلایا، و جمریا از پادشاه خواهش کردند که طومار را نسوزاند، امّا پادشاه به آنها اعتنایی نکرد.

²⁶The king commanded Jerahmeel the king’s son, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but Yahweh hid them.

²⁶ پس از آن پادشاه دستور داد تا شاهزاده یرحمئیل، سرایا پسر عزرئیل، و شلمیا پسر عبدییل، مرا و منشی‌ام باروک را دستگیر کنند. امّا خداوند ما را پنهان کرده بود.

²⁷Then the word of Yahweh came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the scroll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying,

²⁷ بعد از آنکه یهویاقیم پادشاه طوماری را که من به باروک گفته بودم بنویسد سوزانید، خداوند به من گفت

²⁸Take again another scroll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.

²⁸ که طومار دیگری بردارم و هرچه را در طومار نخست بود بر آن بنویسم.

²⁹Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, Thus says Yahweh: You have burned this scroll, saying, Why have you written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land, and shall cause to cease from there man and animal?

²⁹ خداوند به من گفت تا به پادشاه بگویم: «تو طومار را سوزاندی و از ارمیا ‌پرسیدی که چرا او نوشت که پادشاه بابل خواهد آمد و این سرزمین را ویران خواهد کرد و تمام مردم و حیوانات آن را خواهد کشت؟

³⁰Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have none to sit on the throne of David; and his dead body shall be cast out in the day to the heat, and in the night to the frost.

³⁰ پس اکنون من، خداوند، به تو یهویاقیم پادشاه می‌گویم دیگر از نسل تو هیچ‌کس بر قلمرو داوود حکومت نخواهد کرد. جسد تو بیرون انداخته می‌شود تا روزها زیر گرمای خورشید و شبها در برابر یخ و سرما باشد.

³¹I will punish him and his seed and his servants for their iniquity; and I will bring on them, and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and on the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they didn’t listen.

³¹ من تو و فرزندانت و درباریانت را به‌خاطر گناهانی که مرتکب شده‌اید مجازات خواهم کرد. نه تو و نه مردمان اورشلیم و یهودا به اخطارهای من اعتنایی نکردید، پس من بلایی را که گفته بودم بر سر شما خواهم آورد.» پس من طومار دیگری برداشتم و آن را به منشی خودم، باروک، دادم و او تمام چیزهایی که در طومار اولی بود، به انضمام پیامهای مشابه دیگر را بر آن نوشت.

³²Then took Jeremiah another scroll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and there were added besides to them many like words.

³² پس من طومار دیگری برداشتم و آن را به منشی خودم، باروک، دادم و او تمام چیزهایی که در طومار اولی بود، به انضمام پیامهای مشابه دیگر را بر آن نوشت.
