¹Then six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead.

¹ شش روز قبل از عید فصح، عیسی به بیت‌عنیا، محل زندگی ایلعازر یعنی همان کسی‌که او را پس از مردن، زنده كرده بود، آمد.

²So they made him a supper there. Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him.

² آنها در آنجا برای او شامی تهیّه دیدند. مرتا خدمت می‌کرد و ایلعازر با مهمانان، پهلوی عیسی بر سر سفره نشست.

³Mary, therefore, took a pound a Roman pound of 12 ounces, or about 340 grams of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.

³ آنگاه مریم پیمانه‌ای از عطر بسیار گرانبها كه روغن سنبل خالص بود، آورد و بر پاهای عیسی ریخت و با گیسوان خود آنها را خشک كرد به طوری که آن خانه از بوی عطر پر شد.

⁴Then Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said,

⁴ در این وقت یهودای اسخریوطی پسر شمعون كه یکی از حواریون عیسی بود و بزودی او را تسلیم می‌کرد گفت:

⁵“Why wasn’t this ointment sold for three hundred denarii, 300 denarii was about a year’s wages for an agricultural laborer. and given to the poor?”

⁵ «چرا این عطر به سیصد سکّهٔ نقره فروخته نشد تا پول آن به فقرا داده شود؟»

⁶Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.

⁶ او این را از روی دلسوزی برای فقرا نگفت، بلكه به این دلیل گفت كه خودش مسئول كیسهٔ پول و شخص دزدی بود و از پولی كه به او می‌دادند، برمی‌‌داشت.

⁷But Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.

⁷ عیسی گفت: «با او کاری نداشته باش، بگذار آن را تا روزی كه مرا دفن می‌کنند نگه دارد.

⁸ For you always have the poor with you, but you don’t always have me.”

⁸ فقرا همیشه در بین شما خواهند بود امّا من همیشه با شما نخواهم بود.»

⁹A large crowd therefore of the Jews learned that he was there, and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.

⁹ عدّهٔ زیادی از یهودیان شنیدند كه عیسی در آنجاست. پس آمدند تا نه تنها عیسی بلكه ایلعازر را هم كه زنده كرده بود، ببینند.

¹⁰But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus to death also,

¹⁰ بنابراین سران كاهنان تصمیم گرفتند كه ایلعازر را نیز بكشند،

¹¹because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

¹¹ زیرا او باعث شده بود بسیاری از یهودیان از رهبران خود روی‌گردان شده، به عیسی ایمان آورند.

¹²On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

¹² فردای آن روز جمعیّت بزرگی كه برای عید آمده بودند. وقتی شنیدند عیسی در راه اورشلیم است،

¹³they took the branches of the palm trees, and went out to meet him, and cried out, “Hosanna “Hosanna” means “save us” or “help us, we pray.” ! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, Psalm 118:25-26 the King of Israel!”

¹³ شاخه‌های نخل به دست گرفتند و به استقبال او رفتند. آنها فریاد می‌زدند: «خدا را سپاس باد، مبارک باد پادشاه اسرائیل كه به نام خداوند می‌آید.»

¹⁴Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,

¹⁴ عیسی کرّه‌الاغی یافت و بر آن سوار شد، چنانکه كلام خدا می‌فرماید:

¹⁵“Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.” Zechariah 9:9

¹⁵ «ای دختر صهیون، دیگر نترس! اكنون پادشاه تو كه بر کرّه‌الاغی سوار است، می‌آید.»

¹⁶His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.

¹⁶ در ابتدا مقصود این چیزها برای شاگردان روشن نبود؛ امّا پس از آنكه عیسی به جلال رسید، آنها به‌یاد آوردند كه این چیزها دربارهٔ او نوشته شده بود و همان‌طور هم آنها برای او انجام داده بودند.

¹⁷The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, was testifying about it.

¹⁷ موقعی که عیسی ایلعازر را صدا زد و زنده از قبر بیرون آورد، عدّهٔ زیادی حضور داشتند. آنها آنچه را دیده و شنیده بودند نقل كردند.

¹⁸For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.

¹⁸ به این دلیل آن جمعیّت بزرگ به استقبال عیسی آمدند، زیرا شنیده بودند كه عیسی این معجزه را انجام داده بود.

¹⁹The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”

¹⁹ فریسیان به یكدیگر گفتند: «نمی‌بینید كه هیچ کاری از ما ساخته نیست؟ تمام دنیا به دنبال او رفته است.»

²⁰Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast.

²⁰ در میان کسانی‌که برای عبادت عید به اورشلیم آمده بودند عدّه‌ای یونانی بودند.

²¹These, therefore, came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”

²¹ آنها نزد فیلیپُس كه اهل بیت‌صیدای جلیل بود آمدند و گفتند: «ای آقا، ما می‌خواهیم عیسی را ببینیم.»

²²Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.

²² فیلیپُس رفت و این را به اندریاس گفت و آن وقت هردوی آنها رفتند و به عیسی گفتند.

²³Jesus answered them, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

²³ عیسی به آنها گفت: «ساعت آن رسیده است كه پسر انسان جلال یابد.

²⁴ Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.

²⁴ یقین بدانید كه اگر دانهٔ گندم به داخل خاک نرود و نمیرد، هیچ‌وقت از یک دانه بیشتر نمی‌شود امّا اگر بمیرد دانه‌های بی‌شماری به بار می‌آورد.

²⁵ He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.

²⁵ کسی‌که جان خود را دوست دارد، آن را از دست می‌دهد و کسی‌که در این جهان از جان خود بگذرد آن را تا به حیات جاودانی حفظ خواهد كرد.

²⁶ If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there will my servant also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

²⁶ اگر کسی می‌خواهد مرا خدمت كند باید به دنبال من بیاید و هرجا من باشم، خادم من نیز در آنجا با من خواهد بود و اگر کسی مرا خدمت كند، پدر من او را سرافراز خواهد كرد.

²⁷ “Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this time?’ But for this cause I came to this time.

²⁷ «اكنون جان من در اضطراب است. چه بگویم؟ آیا بگویم: 'ای پدر مرا از این ساعت برهان؟' امّا برای همین منظور به این ساعت رسیده‌ام.

²⁸ Father, glorify your name!” Then there came a voice out of the sky, saying, “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”

²⁸ ای پدر، نام خود را جلال بده.» در آن وقت صدایی از آسمان رسید كه می‌گفت: «آن را جلال داده‌ام و باز هم جلال خواهم داد.»

²⁹The multitude therefore, who stood by and heard it, said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”

²⁹ گروهی كه در آنجا ایستاده بودند گفتند: «صدای رعد بود.» و دیگران گفتند: «فرشته‌ای با او سخن گفت.»

³⁰Jesus answered, “This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes.

³⁰ عیسی در جواب گفت: «این صدا به‌خاطر شما آمد نه به‌خاطر من.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.

³¹ اكنون موقع داوری این جهان است و حكمران این جهان بیرون رانده می‌شود.

³² And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

³² وقتی از زمین بالا برده می‌شوم، همهٔ آدمیان را به سوی خود خواهم كشید.»

³³But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

³³ عیسی این را در اشاره به نوع مرگی كه در انتظارش بود گفت.

³⁴The multitude answered him, “We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever. Isaiah 9:7; Daniel 2:44 (but see also Isaiah 53:8) How do you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up?’ Who is this Son of Man?”

³⁴ مردم به او گفتند: «تورات به ما تعلیم می‌دهد كه مسیح تا به ابد زنده می‌ماند. پس تو چگونه می‌گویی كه پسر انسان باید بالا برده شود؟ این پسر انسان كیست؟»

³⁵Jesus therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going.

³⁵ عیسی به آنان گفت: «فقط تا زمانی كوتاه نور با شماست؛ تا وقتی این نور با شماست راه بروید مبادا تاریكی شما را فرا گیرد. کسی‌که در تاریكی راه می‌رود نمی‌داند به كجا می‌رود.

³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.

³⁶ تا زمانی‌که نور را دارید به نور ایمان بیاورید تا فرزندان نور شوید.» عیسی این را گفت و از پیش آنان رفت و پنهان شد.

³⁷But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him,

³⁷ با وجود معجزات بسیاری كه در حضور آنان انجام داد آنها به او ایمان نیاوردند،

³⁸that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, “Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Isaiah 53:1

³⁸ تا سخن اشعیای نبی تحقّق یابد كه گفته بود: «ای خداوند، آیا پیام ما را کسی باور نموده و آیا قدرت خداوند به احدی مشكوف گردیده است؟»

³⁹For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again,

³⁹ پس آنها نتوانستند ایمان آورند، زیرا اشعیا باز هم فرموده است:

⁴⁰“He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart, lest they should see with their eyes, and perceive with their heart, and would turn, and I would heal them.” Isaiah 6:10

⁴⁰ «چشمان آنها را نابینا و دلهایشان را سخت گردانیده است تا با چشمان خود نبینند و با دلهای خود نفهمند و به سوی من باز نگردند تا ایشان را شفا دهم.»

⁴¹Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke of him. Isaiah 6:1

⁴¹ اشعیا این را فرمود زیرا جلال عیسی را دید و دربارهٔ او سخن گفت.

⁴²Nevertheless even of the rulers many believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they didn’t confess it, so that they wouldn’t be put out of the synagogue,

⁴² با وجود این بسیاری از بزرگان یهود به او گرویدند. ولی به‌خاطر فریسیان و ترس از آنکه مبادا از كنیسه اخراج شوند به ایمان خود اقرار نمی‌کردند،

⁴³for they loved men’s praise more than God’s praise.

⁴³ زیرا آنان تعریف و تمجید از انسان را بیش از حرمت و عزّتی كه از جانب خداست دوست می‌داشتند.

⁴⁴Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me.

⁴⁴ پس عیسی با صدای بلند گفت: «هرکه به من ایمان بیاورد نه فقط به من بلكه به فرستندهٔ من نیز ایمان آورده است.

⁴⁵ He who sees me sees him who sent me.

⁴⁵ هرکه مرا می‌بیند فرستندهٔ مرا دیده است.

⁴⁶ I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness.

⁴⁶ من نوری هستم كه به جهان آمده‌ام تا هرکه به من ایمان آورد در تاریكی نماند،

⁴⁷ If anyone listens to my sayings, and doesn’t believe, I don’t judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

⁴⁷ امّا اگر کسی سخنان مرا بشنود و اطاعت نكند، من در حقّ او داوری نمی‌کنم، زیرا نیامده‌ام تا جهان را محكوم سازم بلكه تا جهان را نجات بخشم.

⁴⁸ He who rejects me, and doesn’t receive my sayings, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke, the same will judge him in the last day.

⁴⁸ داوری هست كه هرکه مرا رد كند و سخنانم را نپذیرد او را محكوم می‌سازد. سخنانی كه من گفتم در روز آخر او را محكوم خواهد ساخت.

⁴⁹ For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

⁴⁹ چون من از خود سخن نمی‌گویم بلكه پدری كه مرا فرستاده است به من فرمان داد كه چه بگویم و چگونه صحبت كنم و من می‌دانم كه فرمان او حیات جاودانی است. پس آنچه من می‌گویم کاملاً همان چیزی است كه پدر به من گفته است.»

⁵⁰ I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things therefore which I speak, even as the Father has said to me, so I speak.”

⁵⁰ و من می‌دانم كه فرمان او حیات جاودانی است. پس آنچه من می‌گویم کاملاً همان چیزی است كه پدر به من گفته است.»
