¹When Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples over the brook Kidron, where there was a garden, into which he and his disciples entered.

¹ پس از این سخنان، عیسی با شاگردان خود به آن طرف درّهٔ قدرون رفت. در آنجا باغی بود كه عیسی و شاگردانش وارد آن شدند.

²Now Judas, who betrayed him, also knew the place, for Jesus often met there with his disciples.

² یهودا كه تسلیم‌كنندهٔ او بود، می‌دانست آن محل كجاست زیرا عیسی و شاگردانش اغلب در آنجا جمع می‌شدند.

³Judas then, having taken a detachment of soldiers and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.

³ پس یهودا یک‌دسته از سربازان و پاسبانانی را كه سران كاهنان و فریسیان فرستاده بودند با خود به آن باغ برد. آنها مجهّز به چراغها و مشعل‌ها و اسلحه بودند.

⁴Jesus therefore, knowing all the things that were happening to him, went forth, and said to them, “Who are you looking for?”

⁴ عیسی با وجودی كه می‌دانست چه اتّفاقی برایش خواهد افتاد، جلو رفت و از آنان پرسید: «به دنبال چه كسی می‌گردید؟»

⁵They answered him, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Jesus said to them, “I am he.” Judas also, who betrayed him, was standing with them.

⁵ به او گفتند: «به دنبال عیسی ناصری.» عیسی به آنان گفت: «من هستم.» و یهودای خائن هم همراه آنان بود

⁶When therefore he said to them, “I am he,” they went backward, and fell to the ground.

⁶ وقتی عیسی به آنان گفت: «من هستم»، آنان عقب‌عقب رفته به زمین افتادند.

⁷Again therefore he asked them, “Who are you looking for?” They said, “Jesus of Nazareth.”

⁷ پس عیسی بار دیگر پرسید: «به دنبال چه كسی می‌گردید؟» آنها جواب دادند: «عیسای ناصری.»

⁸Jesus answered, “I told you that I am he. If therefore you seek me, let these go their way,”

⁸ عیسی گفت: «من كه به شما گفتم خودم هستم. اگر به دنبال من می‌گردید، بگذارید اینها بروند.»

⁹that the word might be fulfilled which he spoke, “Of those whom you have given me, I have lost none.” John 6:39

⁹ او این را گفت تا به آنچه قبلاً فرموده بود تحقّق بخشد: «هیچ‌یک از کسانی‌که به من سپردی گُم نشد.»

¹⁰Simon Peter therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

¹⁰ آنگاه شمعون پطرس شمشیری را كه همراه داشت كشیده، ضربه‌ای به نوكر كاهن اعظم كه ملوک نام داشت زد و گوش راست او را برید.

¹¹Jesus therefore said to Peter, “Put the sword into its sheath. The cup which the Father has given me, shall I not surely drink it?”

¹¹ عیسی به پطرس گفت: «شمشیرت را غلاف كن. آیا جامی را كه پدر به من داده است نباید بنوشم؟»

¹²So the detachment, the commanding officer, and the officers of the Jews, seized Jesus and bound him,

¹² سپس آن سربازان به اتّفاق فرماندهٔ خود و پاسبانان یهود عیسی را دستگیر كرده، محكم بستند.

¹³and led him to Annas first, for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.

¹³ ابتدا او را نزد حنا پدرزن قیافا كه در آن موقع كاهن اعظم، بود بردند

¹⁴Now it was Caiaphas who advised the Jews that it was expedient that one man should perish for the people.

¹⁴ و این همان قیافایی بود كه به یهودیان گفته بود كه به خیر و صلاح آنان است اگر یک نفر به‌خاطر قوم بمیرد.

¹⁵Simon Peter followed Jesus, as did another disciple. Now that disciple was known to the high priest, and entered in with Jesus into the court of the high priest;

¹⁵ شمعون پطرس و یک شاگرد دیگر به دنبال عیسی رفتند و چون آن شاگرد با كاهن اعظم آشنایی داشت همراه عیسی به داخل خانهٔ كاهن اعظم رفت.

¹⁶but Peter was standing at the door outside. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought in Peter.

¹⁶ امّا پطرس در بیرون منزل، نزدیک در ایستاد. پس آن شاگردی كه با كاهن اعظم آشنایی داشت بیرون آمد و به دربان چیزی گفت و پطرس را به داخل برد.

¹⁷Then the maid who kept the door said to Peter, “Are you also one of this man’s disciples?” He said, “I am not.”

¹⁷ خادمه‌ای كه جلوی در خدمت می‌کرد گفت: «مگر تو یکی از شاگردان این مرد نیستی؟» او گفت: «نه، نیستم.»

¹⁸Now the servants and the officers were standing there, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. They were warming themselves. Peter was with them, standing and warming himself.

¹⁸ نوكران و نگهبانان، آتش افروخته بودند زیرا هوا سرد بود و دور آتش ایستاده خود را گرم می‌کردند. پطرس نیز پهلوی آنان ایستاده بود و خود را گرم می‌کرد.

¹⁹The high priest therefore asked Jesus about his disciples, and about his teaching.

¹⁹ كاهن اعظم از عیسی دربارهٔ شاگردان و تعالیم او سؤالاتی كرد.

²⁰Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues, and in the temple, where the Jews always meet. I said nothing in secret.

²⁰ عیسی پاسخ داد: «من به طور علنی و در مقابل همه صحبت کرده‌ام. همیشه در كنیسه و در معبد بزرگ یعنی در جایی‌که همهٔ یهودیان جمع می‌شوند، تعلیم داده‌ام و هیچ‌وقت در خفا چیزی نگفته‌ام،

²¹ Why do you ask me? Ask those who have heard me what I said to them. Behold, these know the things which I said.”

²¹ پس چرا از من سؤال می‌کنی؟ از کسانی‌که سخنان مرا شنیده‌اند بپرس. آنها می‌دانند چه گفته‌ام.»

²²When he had said this, one of the officers standing by slapped Jesus with his hand, saying, “Do you answer the high priest like that?”

²² وقتی عیسی این را گفت یکی از نگهبانان كه در آنجا ایستاده بود به او سیلی زده گفت: «آیا این‌طور به كاهن اعظم جواب می‌دهی؟»

²³Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, testify of the evil; but if well, why do you beat me?”

²³ عیسی به او گفت: «اگر بد گفتم، با دلیل خطای مرا ثابت كن و اگر درست جواب دادم چرا مرا می‌زنی؟»

²⁴Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas, the high priest.

²⁴ سپس حنا او را دست‌بسته پیش قیافا كاهن اعظم فرستاد.

²⁵Now Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. They said therefore to him, “You aren’t also one of his disciples, are you?” He denied it, and said, “I am not.”

²⁵ شمعون پطرس در آنجا ایستاده بود و خود را گرم می‌کرد. عدّه‌ای از او پرسیدند: «مگر تو از شاگردان او نیستی؟» او منكر شد و گفت: «نه، نیستم»

²⁶One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter had cut off, said, “Didn’t I see you in the garden with him?”

²⁶ یکی از خدمتكاران كاهن اعظم كه از خویشاوندان آن کسی بود كه پطرس گوشش را بریده بود به او گفت: «مگر من خودم تو را در باغ با او ندیدم؟»

²⁷Peter therefore denied it again, and immediately the rooster crowed.

²⁷ پطرس باز هم منكر شد و درست در همان وقت خروس بانگ زد.

²⁸They led Jesus therefore from Caiaphas into the Praetorium. It was early, and they themselves didn’t enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but might eat the Passover.

²⁸ صبح زود عیسی را نزد قیافا به کاخ فرماندار بردند. یهودیان به کاخ وارد نشدند مبادا ناپاک شوند و نتوانند غذای فصح را بخورند.

²⁹Pilate therefore went out to them, and said, “What accusation do you bring against this man?”

²⁹ پس پیلاطس بیرون آمد و از آنها پرسید: «چه شكایتی علیه این مرد دارید؟»

³⁰They answered him, “If this man weren’t an evildoer, we wouldn’t have delivered him up to you.”

³⁰ در جواب گفتند: «اگر جنایتكار نبود او را نزد تو نمی‌آوردیم.»

³¹Pilate therefore said to them, “Take him yourselves, and judge him according to your law.” Therefore the Jews said to him, “It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,”

³¹ پیلاطس گفت: «او را ببرید و بر طبق قانون خود محاكمه نمایید.» یهودیان به او پاسخ دادند: «طبق قانون، ما اجازه نداریم کسی را بكشیم.»

³²that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

³² و به این ترتیب آنچه كه عیسی در اشاره به نحوهٔ مرگ خود گفته بود تحقّق یافت.

³³Pilate therefore entered again into the Praetorium, called Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the King of the Jews?”

³³ سپس پیلاطس به کاخ برگشت و عیسی را احضار كرده از او پرسید: «آیا تو پادشاه یهود هستی؟»

³⁴Jesus answered him, “Do you say this by yourself, or did others tell you about me?”

³⁴ عیسی پاسخ داد: «آیا این نظر خود توست یا دیگران دربارهٔ من چنین گفته‌اند؟»

³⁵Pilate answered, “I’m not a Jew, am I? Your own nation and the chief priests delivered you to me. What have you done?”

³⁵ پیلاطس گفت: «مگر من یهودی هستم؟ قوم خودت و سران كاهنان، تو را پیش من آوردند. چه کرده‌ای؟»

³⁶Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not of this world. If my Kingdom were of this world, then my servants would fight, that I wouldn’t be delivered to the Jews. But now my Kingdom is not from here.”

³⁶ عیسی پاسخ داد: «پادشاهی من متعلّق به این جهان نیست. اگر پادشاهی من به این جهان تعلّق می‌داشت، پیروان من می‌جنگیدند تا من به یهودیان تسلیم نشوم، ولی پادشاهی من پادشاهی دنیوی نیست.»

³⁷Pilate therefore said to him, “Are you a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this reason I have come into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”

³⁷ پیلاطس به او گفت: «پس تو پادشاه هستی؟» عیسی پاسخ داد: «همان‌طور كه می‌گویی هستم. من برای این متولّد شده‌ام و به دنیا آمدم تا به راستی شهادت دهم و هرکه راستی را دوست دارد، سخنان مرا می‌شنود.»

³⁸Pilate said to him, “What is truth?” When he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, “I find no basis for a charge against him.

³⁸ پیلاطس گفت: «راستی چیست؟» پس از گفتن این سخن، پیلاطس باز پیش یهودیان رفت و به آنها گفت: «من در این مرد هیچ جُرمی نیافتم،

³⁹But you have a custom, that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Therefore do you want me to release to you the King of the Jews?”

³⁹ ولی طبق رسم شما من در روز فصح یکی از زندانیان را برایتان آزاد می‌کنم. آیا مایلید كه پادشاه یهود را برایتان آزاد سازم؟» آنها همه فریاد كشیدند: «نه او را نمی‌خواهیم، باراباس را آزاد كن.» باراباس یک راهزن بود.

⁴⁰Then they all shouted again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a robber.

⁴⁰ آنها همه فریاد كشیدند: «نه او را نمی‌خواهیم، باراباس را آزاد كن.» باراباس یک راهزن بود.
