¹After these things, Jesus was walking in Galilee, for he wouldn’t walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

¹ بعد از آن عیسی در جلیل مسافرت می‌کرد. او نمی‌خواست در یهودیه باشد چون یهودیان قصد داشتند او را بكشند.

²Now the feast of the Jews, the Feast of Booths, was at hand.

² همین‌که عید یهودیان یعنی عید خیمه‌ها نزدیک شد،

³His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here, and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.

³ برادران عیسی به او گفتند: «اینجا را ترک كن و به یهودیه برو تا پیروان تو كارهایی را كه می‌کنی ببینند.

⁴For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”

⁴ کسی‌که می‌خواهد مشهور شود كارهای خود را پنهانی انجام نمی‌دهد، تو كه این كارها را می‌کنی بگذار تمام دنیا تو را ببینند.»

⁵For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

⁵ چونكه برادرانش هم به او ایمان نداشتند.

⁶Jesus therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.

⁶ عیسی به ایشان گفت: «هنوز وقت من نرسیده است، امّا برای شما هروقت مناسب است.

⁷ The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.

⁷ دنیا نمی‌تواند از شما متنفّر باشد، امّا از من نفرت دارد، زیرا من دربارهٔ آن شهادت می‌دهم كه كارهایش بد است.

⁸ You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”

⁸ شما برای این عید بروید. من فعلاً نمی‏آیم زیرا هنوز وقت من کاملاً نرسیده است.»

⁹Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee.

⁹ عیسی این را به آنان گفت و در جلیل ماند.

¹⁰But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.

¹⁰ بعد از آنكه برادرانش برای عید به اورشلیم رفتند، خود عیسی نیز به آنجا رفت ولی نه آشكارا بلكه پنهانی.

¹¹The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”

¹¹ یهودیان در روزهای عید به دنبال او می‌گشتند و می‌پرسیدند: «او كجاست؟»

¹²There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”

¹² در میان مردم دربارهٔ او گفت‌وگوی زیادی وجود داشت. بعضی می‌گفتند: «او آدم خوبی است» و دیگران می‌گفتند: «نه، او مردم را گول می‌زند.»

¹³Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews.

¹³ امّا به علّت ترس از یهودیان، هیچ‌کس دربارهٔ او به طور علنی چیزی نمی‌گفت.

¹⁴But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.

¹⁴ در اواسط روزهای عید، عیسی به معبد بزرگ آمد و به تعلیم دادن پرداخت.

¹⁵The Jews therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

¹⁵ یهودیان با تعجّب می‌گفتند: «این شخص كه هرگز تعلیم نیافته است، چگونه كتب مقدّس را می‌داند؟»

¹⁶Jesus therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.

¹⁶ عیسی در جواب ایشان گفت: «آنچه من تعلیم می‌دهم از خود من نیست، بلكه از طرف فرستندهٔ من است.

¹⁷ If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.

¹⁷ کسی‌که مایل باشد ارادهٔ او را انجام دهد خواهد دانست كه تعالیم من از جانب خداست یا من فقط از خود سخن می‌گویم.

¹⁸ He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

¹⁸ هرکه از خود سخن بگوید طالب جاه و جلال برای خود می‌باشد. امّا کسی‌که طالب جلال فرستنده خود باشد، آدمی است صادق و در او ناراستی نیست.

¹⁹ Didn’t Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill me?”

¹⁹ مگر موسی شریعت را به شما نداد شریعتی كه هیچ‌یک از شما به آن عمل نمی‌کند؟ چرا می‌خواهید مرا بكشید؟»

²⁰The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”

²⁰ مردم در جواب گفتند: «تو دیو داری. چه کسی می‌خواهد تو را بكشد؟»

²¹Jesus answered them, “I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.

²¹ عیسی جواب داد: «من یک كار کرده‌ام و همهٔ شما از آن تعجّب کرده‌اید.

²² Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a boy.

²² موسی قانون مربوط به ختنه را به شما داد (هرچند از موسی شروع نشد بلكه از اجداد قوم) و شما در روز سبت پسران خود را ختنه می‌کنید.

²³ If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath?

²³ پس اگر پسران خود را در روز سبت ختنه می‌کنید تا قانون موسی شكسته نشود، چرا به این دلیل كه من در روز سبت به یک انسان سلامتی كامل بخشیدم بر من خشمگین شده‌اید؟

²⁴ Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.”

²⁴ از روی ظاهر قضاوت نكنید، بلكه در قضاوتهای خود با انصاف باشید.»

²⁵Therefore some of them of Jerusalem said, “Isn’t this he whom they seek to kill?

²⁵ پس بعضی از مردم اورشلیم گفتند: «آیا این همان کسی نیست كه می‌خواهند او را بكشند؟

²⁶Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Christ?

²⁶ ببینید او در اینجا به طور علنی صحبت می‌کند و آنها چیزی به او نمی‌گویند. آیا حكمرانان ما واقعاً قبول دارند كه او مسیح موعود است؟

²⁷However we know where this man comes from, but when the Christ comes, no one will know where he comes from.”

²⁷ با وجود این ما همهٔ می‌دانیم كه این مرد اهل كجاست، امّا وقتی مسیح ظهور كند هیچ‌کس نخواهد دانست كه او اهل كجاست.»

²⁸Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.

²⁸ از این رو وقتی عیسی در معبد بزرگ تعلیم می‌داد با صدای بلند گفت: «شما مرا می‌شناسید و می‌دانید كه اهل كجا هستم. ولی من به دلخواه خود نیامده‌ام زیرا فرستنده من حق است و شما او را نمی‌شناسید.

²⁹ I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”

²⁹ امّا من او را می‌شناسم زیرا از جانب او آمده‌ام و او مرا فرستاده است.»

³⁰They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.

³⁰ در این وقت آنها خواستند او را دستگیر كنند، امّا هیچ‌کس دست به طرف او دراز نكرد، زیرا وقت او هنوز نرسیده بود.

³¹But of the multitude, many believed in him. They said, “When the Christ comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”

³¹ ولی عدّهٔ زیادی به او ایمان آوردند و می‌گفتند: «آیا وقتی مسیح ظهور كند از این شخص بیشتر معجزه می‌نماید؟»

³²The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

³² فریسیان آنچه را كه مردم دربارهٔ او به طور پنهانی می‌گفتند شنیدند. پس آنها و سران كاهنان پاسبانانی فرستادند تا عیسی را بازداشت كنند.

³³Then Jesus said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.

³³ آنگاه عیسی گفت: «فقط مدّت كوتاهی با شما خواهم بود و بعد به نزد فرستندهٔ خود خواهم رفت.

³⁴ You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come.”

³⁴ شما به دنبال من خواهید گشت، امّا مرا نخواهید یافت و به جایی‌که من خواهم بود شما نمی‌توانید بیایید.»

³⁵The Jews therefore said among themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

³⁵ پس یهودیان به یكدیگر گفتند: «كجا می‌خواهد برود كه ما نتوانیم او را پیدا كنیم، آیا می‌خواهد پیش كسانی برود كه در میان یونانیان پراكنده هستند و به یونانیان تعلیم دهد؟ او می‌گوید:

³⁶What is this word that he said, ‘You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come’? ”

³⁶ 'به دنبال من خواهید گشت امّا مرا نخواهید یافت و به جایی‌که من خواهم بود شما نمی‌توانید بیایید.' مقصود او از این حرف چیست؟»

³⁷Now on the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!

³⁷ در آخرین روز كه مهمترین روز عید بود، عیسی ایستاد و با صدای بلند گفت: «اگر کسی تشنه است پیش من بیاید و بنوشد.

³⁸ He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.”

³⁸ چنانکه كلام خدا می‌فرماید: 'نهرهای آب زنده از درون آن کسی‌که به من ایمان بیاورد جاری خواهد گشت.'»

³⁹But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.

³⁹ این سخنان را دربارهٔ روح‌القدس، كه می‌باید به مؤمنین او داده شود می‌گفت و چون هنوز عیسی جلال نیافته بود روح‌القدس عطا نشده بود.

⁴⁰Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the prophet.”

⁴⁰ بسیاری از کسانی‌که این سخن را شنیدند گفتند: «این مرد واقعاً همان نبی موعود است»

⁴¹Others said, “This is the Christ.” But some said, “What, does the Christ come out of Galilee?

⁴¹ دیگران گفتند: «او مسیح است.» و عدّه‌ای هم گفتند: «آیا مسیح از جلیل ظهور می‌کند؟

⁴²Hasn’t the Scripture said that the Christ comes of the seed of David, 2 Samuel 7:12 and from Bethlehem, Micah 5:2 the village where David was?”

⁴² مگر کتاب‌مقدّس نمی‌گوید كه مسیح باید از خاندان داوود و اهل دهكدهٔ داوود یعنی بیت‌لحم باشد؟»

⁴³So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.

⁴³ به این ترتیب دربارهٔ او در میان جمعیّت دودستگی به وجود آمد.

⁴⁴Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.

⁴⁴ عدّه‌ای خواستند او را دستگیر كنند، امّا هیچ‌کس به طرف او دست دراز نكرد.

⁴⁵The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”

⁴⁵ بعد از آن پاسبانان پیش سران كاهنان و فریسیان برگشتند. آنها از پاسبان پرسیدند: «چرا او را نیاوردید؟»

⁴⁶The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”

⁴⁶ پاسبان جواب دادند: «تا به حال هیچ‌کس مانند این مرد سخن نگفته است.»

⁴⁷The Pharisees therefore answered them, “You aren’t also led astray, are you?

⁴⁷ فریسیان در پاسخ گفتند: «آیا او شما را هم گمراه كرده است؟

⁴⁸Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?

⁴⁸ آیا کسی از رؤسا و فریسیان به او گرویده است؟

⁴⁹But this multitude that doesn’t know the law is accursed.”

⁴⁹ و امّا این آدمهایی كه از شریعت بی‌خبرند، ملعون هستند!»

⁵⁰Nicodemus (he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,

⁵⁰ نیقودیموس، كه در شب به دیدن عیسی آمده بود و یکی از آنها بود، از آنها پرسید:

⁵¹“Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”

⁵¹ «آیا شریعت به ما اجازه می‌دهد کسی را محكوم كنیم بدون آنكه به سخنان او گوش دهیم و بدانیم چه كار كرده است؟»

⁵²They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee. See Isaiah 9:1 and Matthew 4:13-16. ”

⁵² در پاسخ به او گفتند: «مگر تو جلیلی هستی؟ بررسی كن و ببین كه هیچ نبی‌ای از جلیل ظهور نكرده است.» پس آنها همه به خانه‌های خود رفتند.
