¹Now it happened after the death of Moses the servant of Yahweh, “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. that Yahweh spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ servant, saying,

¹ بعد از وفات موسی خدمتگزار خداوند، خداوند به دستیار موسی، یعنی یوشع پسر نون گفت:

²“Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you, and all this people, to the land which I give to them, even to the children of Israel.

² «خادم من موسی، وفات یافته است. پس تو و همهٔ مردم اسرائیل آماده شوید تا از رود اردن عبور کرده به سرزمینی که من به آنها خواهم داد، بروید.

³I have given you every place that the sole of your foot will tread on, as I told Moses.

³ همان‌طور كه به موسی گفته‌ام به شما هم می‌گویم، هر جایی که پای شما به آن برسد، آنجا را به شما خواهم داد.

⁴From the wilderness, and this Lebanon, even to the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.

⁴ حدود سرزمینهای شما، از جنوب به بیابان، از شمال به کوههای لبنان، از مغرب به سواحل مدیترانه و از مشرق به رود فرات خواهد رسید. همچنین سرزمین حِتّیان را در اختیار شما می‌گذارم.

⁵No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you.

⁵ همان‌طور که با موسی بوده‌ام با تو نیز خواهم بود و تا پایان عمرت، هیچ‌کس نخواهد توانست، در برابر تو مقاومت کند. همیشه همراه تو خواهم بود و هرگز تو را ترک نخواهم کرد.

⁶“Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

⁶ دلیر و شجاع باش، زیرا تو این قوم را رهبری خواهی کرد تا سرزمینی را که به نیاکانشان وعده داده‌ام، به دست آورند.

⁷Only be strong and very courageous, to observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go.

⁷ قوی و دلیر باش و از تمام دستورات و قوانینی که موسی خدمتگزار من، به تو داده است، اطاعت کن و از آن منحرف نشو تا در هر کاری که می‌کنی موفّق گردی.

⁸This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.

⁸ کتاب تورات را همیشه درنظر داشته باش. آن را بخوان و دربارهٔ آن روز و شب تفکّر کن تا بتوانی تمام دستوراتی که در آن نوشته شده، پیروی و اطاعت نمایی. آنگاه موفّق و کامیاب خواهی شد.

⁹Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed: for Yahweh your God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” is with you wherever you go.”

⁹ باز می‌گویم: دلیر و شجاع باش، ترس و شک به دل خود راه مده، زیرا خداوند خدای تو در همه‌جا همراه توست.»

¹⁰Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

¹⁰ پس یوشع به رهبران قوم دستور داد که

¹¹“Pass through the midst of the camp, and command the people, saying, ‘Prepare food; for within three days you are to pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which Yahweh your God gives you to possess it.’”

¹¹ به همهٔ مردم در اردو بگویید «آذوقهٔ خود را تهیّه كنید، زیرا بعد از سه روز از رود اردن عبور خواهیم کرد و سرزمینی را که خداوند به ما وعده فرموده است، تصرّف خواهیم نمود.»

¹²Joshua spoke to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of Manasseh, saying,

¹² یوشع به بزرگان طایفهٔ رئوبین و جاد و نصف طایفهٔ منسی، خاطرنشان کرده گفت:

¹³“Remember the word which Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded you, saying, ‘Yahweh your God gives you rest, and will give you this land.

¹³ «کلام موسی، خادم خداوند را به یاد داشته باشید که فرمود: خداوند خدای شما زمینی برای شما آماده کرده است تا در آن ساکن شده، آرامی‌ بیابید.

¹⁴Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock, shall live in the land which Moses gave you beyond the Jordan; but you shall pass over before your brothers armed, all the mighty men of valor, and shall help them

¹⁴ شما با زنان، اطفال و گلّه و رمهٔ خود به آسودگی در این سرزمین در این سوی رود اردن زندگی کنید. امّا مردان مسلّح، باید برای جنگ آماده باشند و پیشاپیش بقیّهٔ قوم از رود اردن عبور کنند تا آنها را در تصرّف آن سرزمین یاری نمایند.

¹⁵until Yahweh has given your brothers rest, as he has given you, and they have also possessed the land which Yahweh your God gives them. Then you shall return to the land of your possession, and possess it, which Moses the servant of Yahweh gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.’”

¹⁵ همراه آنها بمانید تا آنها زمینی را، که در غرب رود اردن است و خداوند وعدهٔ مالکیّت آن را به آنها داده است، تصرّف کنند و وقتی‌که همگی آرام و آسوده شدند، آنگاه شما می‌توانید به وطن خود، در شرق رود اردن، که خادم خداوند، موسی به شما داده است، بازگردید.»

¹⁶They answered Joshua, saying, “All that you have commanded us we will do, and wherever you send us we will go.

¹⁶ همگی موافقت کردند و گفتند: «هرچه به ما امر کردی، بجا می‌آوریم و به هر جایی که ما را بفرستی، می‌رویم.

¹⁷Just as we listened to Moses in all things, so will we listen to you. Only may Yahweh your God be with you, as he was with Moses.

¹⁷ همان‌طور که همیشه موسی را اطاعت می‌کردیم، از تو هم اطاعت می‌‌نماییم. و دعا می‌کنیم، همان‌طور که خداوند خدای تو همراه موسی بود، همراه تو نیز باشد! و هرکسی که با تو مخالفت نماید، یا از دستورات تو سرپیچی كند، کشته خواهد شد. پس دلیر و شجاع باش.»

¹⁸Whoever rebels against your commandment, and doesn’t listen to your words in all that you command him, he shall be put to death. Only be strong and courageous.”

¹⁸ و هرکسی که با تو مخالفت نماید، یا از دستورات تو سرپیچی كند، کشته خواهد شد. پس دلیر و شجاع باش.»
