¹Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

¹ بعد خداوند به یوشع فرمود:

²“Speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘Assign the cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you by Moses,

² «به قوم اسرائیل بگو، طبق دستوری که به موسی داده بودم، شهرهایی را به عنوان پناهگاه انتخاب کنید،

³that the manslayer who kills any person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there. They shall be to you for a refuge from the avenger of blood.

³ تا اگر کسی ناخواسته مرتکب قتل شود، به یکی از آن شهرها پناه ببرد و دست وابستگان شخص مقتول به او نرسد.

⁴He shall flee to one of those cities, and shall stand at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city. They shall take him into the city with them, and give him a place, that he may live among them.

⁴ شخص قاتل باید، به یکی از آن شهرها فرار کند و در جلو دروازهٔ ورودی شهر بایستد و ماجرای خود را برای رهبران آن شهر بیان کند. آنها او را به داخل شهر ببرند و جایی برایش تهیّه کنند و او پیش آنها بماند.

⁵If the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver up the manslayer into his hand; because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him before.

⁵ اگر خانوادهٔ شخص مقتول برای انتقام بیایند، قاتل را به دست آنها نسپارند؛ زیرا او به طور تصادفی مرتکب قتل شده و با مقتول سابقهٔ دشمنی نداشته است.

⁶He shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days. Then the manslayer shall return, and come to his own city, and to his own house, to the city he fled from.’”

⁶ او تا زمان محاکمه در حضور مردم و تا زمان فوت کاهن اعظم وقت، در آنجا بماند. بعد از آن، شخص قاتل می‌تواند به خانهٔ خود و به شهری که از آن فرار کرده است، بازگردد.»

⁷They set apart Kedesh in Galilee in the hill country of Naphtali, Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and Kiriath Arba (the same is Hebron) in the hill country of Judah.

⁷ بنابراین شهر قادش در جلیل، در کوهستان نفتالی، شکیم در کوهستان افرایم و حبرون در کوهستان یهودا برای این منظور تعیین گردیدند.

⁸Beyond the Jordan at Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness in the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

⁸ همچنین طبق دستور خداوند سه شهر دیگر را در آن طرف رود اردن، در شرق اریحا انتخاب کردند که عبارت بود از باصر، در بیابان طایفهٔ رئوبین، رامون در جلعاد در سرزمین جاد و جولان در باشان در محدوده طایفهٔ منسی. اینها شهرهای پناهگاه بودند برای مردم اسرائیل و بیگانگانی که با آنها زندگی می‌‌‌کردند. هرگاه کسی ناخواسته مرتکب قتل می‌‌شد، به آنجا پناه می‌برد تا به دست وابستگان شخص مقتول کشته نشود و در آنجا تا روز محاکمهٔ خود باقی می‌‌ماند.

⁹These were the appointed cities for all the children of Israel, and for the alien who lives among them, that whoever kills any person unintentionally might flee there, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stands before the congregation.

⁹ اینها شهرهای پناهگاه بودند برای مردم اسرائیل و بیگانگانی که با آنها زندگی می‌‌‌کردند. هرگاه کسی ناخواسته مرتکب قتل می‌‌شد، به آنجا پناه می‌برد تا به دست وابستگان شخص مقتول کشته نشود و در آنجا تا روز محاکمهٔ خود باقی می‌‌ماند.
