¹Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the children of Israel. No one went out, and no one came in.

¹ دروازه‌های شهر اریحا را از ترس مردم اسرائیل بسته بودند، به طوری که نه کسی می‌توانست داخل شود و نه کسی می‌‌توانست خارج گردد.

²Yahweh said to Joshua, “Behold, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty men of valor.

² ‌ خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «من شهر اریحا را با پادشاه و لشکر نیرومند آن به دست تو می‌‌دهم.

³All your men of war shall march around the city, going around the city once. You shall do this six days.

³ شما باید مدّت شش روز، هر روز به همراه تمام سپاهیان خود به دور شهر بگردید.

⁴Seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. On the seventh day, you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.

⁴ هفت کاهن، هر کدام با یک شیپور، که از شاخ قوچ ساخته شده باشد، پیشاپیش صندوق پیمان حرکت کنند. روز هفتم شهر را هفت مرتبه دور بزنید و کاهنان هم شیپور خود را بنوازند.

⁵It shall be that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.”

⁵ همین که صدای بلند و طولانی شیپور کاهنان را شنیدید، همهٔ مردم با صدای بلند فریاد کنند. آن وقت دیوارهای شهر اریحا فرو می‌‌ریزند و همهٔ سپاهیان باید مستقیماً داخل شهر شوند.»

⁶Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of Yahweh.”

⁶ پس یوشع پسر نون، کاهنان را به حضور خود خوانده، به آنها گفت: «صندوق پیمان را بردارید و هفت نفر از شما، هرکدام با یک شیپور پیشاپیش صندوق پیمان حرکت کنید.»

⁷They said to the people, “Advance! March around the city, and let the armed men pass on before Yahweh’s ark.”

⁷ سپس درحالی‌که مردان مسلّح پیشاپیش صندوق پیمان خداوند و کاهنان حرکت می‌کردند، به مردم گفت: «شما بروید و به دور شهر بگردید.»

⁸It was so, that when Joshua had spoken to the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before Yahweh advanced, and blew the trumpets; and the ark of the covenant of Yahweh followed them.

⁸ مردم به دستور یوشع حرکت کردند و هفت کاهن شیپور خود را بر داشته، پیشاپیش صندوق پیمان خداوند به صدا درآوردند.

⁹The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the ark went after them. The trumpets sounded as they went.

⁹ مردان مسلّح در جلوی کاهنان حرکت کردند و بقیّهٔ لشکر هم، پشت سر آنان رفتند.

¹⁰Joshua commanded the people, saying, “You shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I tell you to shout. Then you shall shout.”

¹⁰ یوشع به مردم گفت: «تا وقتی‌که من به شما نگویم، هیچ صدایی از کسی در نیاید.»

¹¹So he caused the ark of Yahweh to go around the city, going about it once. Then they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

¹¹ در آن روز، صندوق پیمان خداوند را یک‌بار به دور شهر گردانیدند و بعد برگشتند و شب را در اردوگاه خود به سر بردند.

¹²Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Yahweh.

¹² صبح روز بعد، باز یوشع برخاست و کاهنان، صندوق پیمان خداوند را گرفته، درحالی‌که شیپور خود را می‌‌نواختند، به اتّفاق سربازان برای دفعه دوم شهر را دور زدند. و به این ترتیب برای شش روز همین کار را کردند.

¹³The seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark of Yahweh went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them. The rear guard came after the ark of Yahweh. The trumpets sounded as they went.

¹³ روز هفتم سپیده دَم برخاسته، این‌بار هفت بار شهر را دور زدند.

¹⁴The second day they marched around the city once, and returned into the camp. They did this six days.

¹⁴ امّا در مرتبهٔ هفتم وقتی‌که کاهنان شیپور خود را به صدا درآوردند، یوشع به مردم گفت: «فریاد کنید! زیرا خداوند این شهر را به ما داده است.

¹⁵It happened on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and marched around the city in the same way seven times. Only on this day they marched around the city seven times.

¹⁵ شهر و همهٔ چیزهایی را که در آن است، به عنوان قربانی برای خداوند، از بین ببرید. امّا به راحاب فاحشه و خانوادهٔ او که به جاسوسان ما پناه داد، آسیبی نرسانید.

¹⁶It happened at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for Yahweh has given you the city!

¹⁶ شما نباید چیزی به غنیمت بگیرید، زیرا حرام است؛ بلکه همه‌ چیز باید از بین برده شود، وگرنه بلای وحشتناکی بر سر همهٔ مردم اسرائیل خواهد آمد.

¹⁷The city shall be devoted, even it and all that is in it, to Yahweh. Only Rahab the prostitute shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

¹⁷ تمام اشیای ساخته شده از طلا، نقره، برنز و یا آهن، به عنوان صدقه برای خداوند، در خزانه نگه داشته شوند.»

¹⁸But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when you have devoted it, you take of the devoted thing; so would you make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.

¹⁸ وقتی شیپورها را نواختند، همهٔ مردم فریاد برآوردند. همین که صدای فریادشان بلند شد، دیوارهای شهر فرو ریختند. آنگاه سپاهیان اسرائیل همگی یکراست به داخل شهر رفتند و آن را تسخیر کردند.

¹⁹But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy to Yahweh. They shall come into Yahweh’s treasury.”

¹⁹ بعد همه ‌چیز را، زن و مرد، پیر و جوان، گاو، گوسفند و الاغ را با شمشیر از بین بردند.

²⁰So the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. It happened, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

²⁰ بعد یوشع به آن دو مردی که برای جاسوسی به آن سرزمین آمده بودند، گفت: «به خانهٔ آن زن فاحشه بروید و به وعده‌ای که داده‌اید، وفا کنید. او را با تمام خانواده‌اش بیاورید.»

²¹They utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and donkey, with the edge of the sword.

²¹ پس آن دو جوان جاسوس رفتند و او را با پدر، مادر، برادران و همهٔ خویشاوندانش آورده به جایی که در بیرون اردوگاه برایشان ترتیب داده بودند، منتقل نمودند.

²²Joshua said to the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the prostitute’s house, and bring out from there the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.”

²² آنگاه شهر را با هرچه در آن بود آتش زدند، غیراز آنچه که از طلا، نقره، برنز و آهن ساخته شده بود که آنها را در خزانهٔ خداوند نگه داشتند.

²³The young men who were spies went in, and brought out Rahab with her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. They also brought out all her relatives, and they set them outside of the camp of Israel.

²³ به این ترتیب، یوشع راحاب فاحشه و بستگانش را که در خانهٔ او بودند، نجات داد و آنها تا امروز در اسرائیل ساکنند، چون او آن دو جاسوسی را که یوشع به اریحا فرستاده بود، پناه داده بود.

²⁴They burnt the city with fire, and all that was in it. Only they put the silver, the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron into the treasury of Yahweh’s house.

²⁴ سپس یوشع مردم را قسم داده گفت: «لعنت خدا بر کسی باد که بخواهد شهر اریحا را دوباره آباد کند، او به قیمت جان پسر ارشدش بنیاد آن را خواهد نهاد. هر شخصی که بکوشد دروازه‌های آن را بسازد، به قیمت جان پسر کوچکش تمام خواهد شد.» خداوند با یوشع ‌‌بود و نام او در سراسر آن سرزمین شهرت یافت.

²⁵But Rahab the prostitute, her father’s household, and all that she had, Joshua saved alive. She lived in the midst of Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

²⁵ خداوند با یوشع ‌‌بود و نام او در سراسر آن سرزمین شهرت یافت.

²⁶Joshua commanded them with an oath at that time, saying, “Cursed is the man before Yahweh, who rises up and builds this city Jericho. With the loss of his firstborn shall he lay its foundation, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up its gates.”

²⁷So Yahweh was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.
