¹But it happened after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a young goat; and he said, “I will go in to my wife into the room.” But her father wouldn’t allow him to go in.

¹ بعد از مدّتی، در موسم درو گندم، سامسون برای دیدن زن خود رفت. او یک بُزغاله به عنوان هدیه، با خود برد و به پدر زن خود گفت: «می‌خواهم به اتاق زن خود بروم.» امّا پدر زنش به او اجازه نداد.

²Her father said, “I most certainly thought that you had utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her, instead.”

² او گفت: «من فکر کردم که تو از او بدت می‌آید، پس او را به رفیقت دادم. امّا خواهر کوچکتر او، از او هم زیباتر است، تو می‌توانی با او ازدواج کنی.»

³Samson said to them, “This time I will be blameless in regard of the Philistines, when I harm them.”

³ سامسون گفت: «اکنون دیگر هر بلایی به سر فلسطینیان بیاورم، تقصیر من نیست.»

⁴Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch in the midst between every two tails.

⁴ پس رفت و سیصد شغال گرفت و دمهای آنها را دو به دو به هم بست و در بین هر جفت یک مشعل گذاشت.

⁵When he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks and the standing grain, and also the olive groves.

⁵ سپس مشعلها را روشن نمود و شغالها را در بین کشتزارها و تاکستانهای فلسطینیان رها کرد و به این ترتیب تمام کشتزارها و درختان زیتون آنها را به آتش کشید.

⁶Then the Philistines said, “Who has done this?” They said, “Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife, and given her to his companion.” The Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.

⁶ فلسطینیان پرسیدند: «چه کسی این کار را کرده است؟» گفتند: «سامسون، داماد تمنی، زیرا تمنی زن او را به دوستش داده است.» آنگاه فلسطینیان رفتند و آن زن را همراه پدرش در آتش سوزاندند.

⁷Samson said to them, “If you behave like this, surely I will be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.”

⁷ سامسون به آنها گفت: «چون شما این کار را کردید، پس سوگند می‌خورم تا انتقام آنها را از شما نگیرم، آرام نمی‌نشینم.»

⁸He struck them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and lived in the cleft of the rock of Etam.

⁸ پس با یک حملهٔ شدید تعداد زیادی از آنها را کشت و رفت و در غار صخرهٔ عیطام ساکن شد.

⁹Then the Philistines went up, and encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.

⁹ فلسطینیان هم رفته، در یهودا اردو زده شهر لِحی را محاصره کردند.

¹⁰The men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”

¹⁰ مردم یهودا از فلسطینیان پرسیدند: «چرا به جنگ ما آمده‌اید؟» آنها جواب دادند: «ما آمده‌ایم تا سامسون را دستگیر کنیم و انتقام خود را از او بگیریم.»

¹¹Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cleft of the rock of Etam, and said to Samson, “Don’t you know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” He said to them, “As they did to me, so have I done to them.”

¹¹ آنگاه سه هزار نفر از مردم یهودا به غار صخرهٔ عیطام پیش سامسون رفتند و به او گفتند: «آیا خبر نداری که فلسطینیان بر ما حکومت می‌کنند؟ پس این چه کاری است که با ما کرده‌ای؟» سامسون جواب داد: «همان کاری را که با من کردند، من هم با ایشان کردم.»

¹²They said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not fall on me yourselves.”

¹² آنها گفتند: «ما آمده‌ایم که تو را دستگیر کنیم و پیش فلسطینیان ببریم.» سامسون گفت: «بسیار خوب، امّا قول بدهید که مرا نکُشید.»

¹³They spoke to him, saying, “No; but we will bind you fast, and deliver you into their hand; but surely we will not kill you.” They bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.

¹³ آنها جواب دادند: «خیر، تو را نمی‌کشیم. فقط تو را بسته به آنها خواهیم داد.» پس آنها دست و پای سامسون را با دو ریسمان نو بستند و از غار بیرون بردند.

¹⁴When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him: and the Spirit of Yahweh came mightily on him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands dropped from off his hands.

¹⁴ وقتی سامسون به لِحی رسید، فلسطینیان با دیدن او فریاد برآوردند. در همان لحظه روح خداوند به او قدرت بخشید و ریسمانهایی که با آنها او را بسته بودند مثل موم که در آتش بسوزد، آب شده به زمین ریختند.

¹⁵He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, and put forth his hand, and took it, and struck a thousand men therewith.

¹⁵ آنگاه یک استخوان چانهٔ الاغی را که تازه مرده بود، دید. پس آن را برداشت و با آن هزار نفر را کشت.

¹⁶Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps on heaps; with the jawbone of a donkey I have struck a thousand men.”

¹⁶ سامسون گفت: «با استخوان لاشهٔ یک الاغ از کُشته پُشته ساختم، یعنی با استخوان چانه الاغ هزار مرد را کشتم!»

¹⁷It happened, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called Ramath Lehi.

¹⁷ وقتی حرف خود را تمام کرد، استخوان چانهٔ الاغ را به زمین انداخت و آنجا را «تپّهٔ استخوان چانه» نامید.

¹⁸He was very thirsty, and called on Yahweh, and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant; and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?”

¹⁸ در این وقت، سامسون بسیار تشنه شده بود، پس به درگاه خداوند دعا کرده گفت: «امروز به این بنده‌ات، افتخار آن را دادی که قوم اسرائیل را نجات بدهم. آیا اکنون باید از تشنگی بمیرم و به دست این کافران بیفتم؟»

¹⁹But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out of it. When he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: therefore its name was called En Hakkore, which is in Lehi, to this day.

¹⁹ آنگاه خداوند گودالی را که در آنجا بود شکافت و از آن آب جاری شد. وقتی‌که از آن آب نوشید، جان تازه‌ای گرفت و حالش بجا آمد. به این خاطر آنجا را عین حقوری (یعنی چشمهٔ کسی‌که دعا کرد) نامید که تا به امروز در لِحی باقی است. سامسون در زمان فلسطینیان مدّت بیست سال بر اسرائیل حکومت کرد.
