1Then all the children of Israel went out, and the congregation was assembled as one man, from Dan even to Beersheba, with the land of Gilead, to Yahweh at Mizpah.

آنگاه تمام قوم اسرائیل از دان تا بئرشبع به همراه اهالی جلعاد، به حضور خداوند در مصفه جمع شدند.
2The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.

تعداد آنها با سپاهی متشکّل از پیاده و شمشیرزن و رهبرانشان چهارصد هزار نفر بود که در آنجا به حضور خداوند حاضر بودند.
3(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The children of Israel said, “Tell us, how did this wickedness happen?”

خبر اجتماع قوم اسرائیل بزودی به سرزمین بنیامین رسید.
مردان اسرائیل پرسیدند: «به ما بگو که این کار زشت چگونه اتّفاق افتاد؟»
4The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.

مرد لاوی که صیغه او به قتل رسیده بود، جواب داد: «من با صیغهام به جبعه بنیامین رفتم که شب را در آنجا بگذرانیم.
5The men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house by night. They thought to have slain me, and they forced my concubine, and she is dead.

مردم جبعه به مخالفت من برخاستند. هنگام شب، خانهای را که من در آن بودم، محاصره کردند و میخواستند که مرا بکشند. صیغهٔ مرا بیعصمت کردند و در حقیقت او را کشتند.
6I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.

من جسد صیغهام را قطعهقطعه کردم و آن قطعات را به سراسر سرزمین اسرائیل فرستادم، زیرا مردم جبعه کار بسیار زشت و ناروایی در مقابل قوم اسرائیل کردند.
7Behold, you children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.”

اکنون شما مردم اسرائیل، در این باره فکر کنید و چارهای بیندشید.»
8All the people arose as one man, saying, “None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.
8
تمام ارتش با یک دل و یک زبان گفتند: «تا مردم جبعه را به سزای کارشان نرسانیم، هیچکدام از ما به چادر یا خانهٔ خود برنمیگردیم. تصمیم ما این است که طبق قرعه، یک دهم لشکر را انتخاب کرده تا آذوقه و لوازم جنگی برای ما برسانند. بقیّهٔ ما میرویم و جبعه را بهخاطر آن کار زشت مردمش از بین میبریم.»
9But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;

به این ترتیب تمام قوم اسرائیل برای انجام این کار متّحد شدند.
10and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have worked in Israel.”

آنها پیامی برای طایفهٔ بنیامین فرستاده گفتند: «این چهکار زشتی است که از شما سر زده است؟
11So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.
11
پس اکنون آن مردان پست و شریر را که در جبعه هستند به دست ما تسلیم کنید تا آنها را به قتل برسانیم.» امّا مردم بنیامین به تقاضای برادران اسرائیلی خود گوش ندادند،
12The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What wickedness is this that is happen among you?

بلکه برعکس آنها همگی در بیرون شهر جبعه جمع و آماده شدند تا به جنگ اسرائیل بروند.
13Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows, who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel.” But Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers the children of Israel.

مردم بنیامین در آن روز بیست و شش هزار مرد شمشیرزن و هفتصد نفر از ساکنان جبعه را مجهّز ساختند.
14The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.

از آن جمله هفتصد نفر چپ دست را انتخاب کردند که هر کدام از آنها مویی را با فلاخن نشانه میگرفتند و خطا نمیکردند.
15The children of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.

تعداد سپاهیان اسرائیل به غیراز مردان بنیامین چهارصد هزار نفر و همهٔ مردان شمشیرزن و جنگی بودند.
16Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; everyone could sling stones at a hair-breadth, and not miss.

پیش از شروع جنگ، مردم اسرائیل به بیتئیل رفتند و از خداوند پرسیدند که کدام طایفهٔ اول به جنگ بنیامین برود؟
خداوند در جواب فرمود: «طایفهٔ یهودا.»
17The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men who drew sword: all these were men of war.

پس سپاه اسرائیل هنگام صبح به راه افتاده روانه جبعه شدند و برای جنگ در مقابل لشکر بنیامین آماده حمله گردیدند.
18The children of Israel arose, and went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God; and they said, “Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said, “Judah first.”

سپاه بنیامین هم برای مقابله آمدند و در آن روز بیست و دو هزار نفر از سپاهیان اسرائیل کشته شدند.
19The children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.
19
امّا مردم اسرائیل، جرأت خود را از دست ندادند و بار دیگر برای جنگ صف آراستند و در همان جای سابق اردو زدند.
20The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.
20
قبل از جنگ، مردم اسرائیل به حضور خداوند تا به شام گریه کردند و از او پرسیدند که: «آیا دوباره برویم و با برادران بنیامینی خود جنگ کنیم؟»
خداوند فرمود: «بلی، بروید.»
21The children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty-two thousand men.
21
پس سپاه اسرائیل، روز دیگر برای جنگ به اردوی بنیامین نزدیک شدند.
22The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.
22
و لشکر بنیامین هم، در همان روز برای مقابلهٔ آنها به جبعه رفت. باز از سپاهیان اسرائیل هجده هزار نفر به قتل رسیدند که همگی مردان شمشیر زن و جنگی بودند.
23The children of Israel went up and wept before Yahweh until evening; and they asked of Yahweh, saying, “Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” Yahweh said, “Go up against him.”

بار دیگر مردم اسرائیل با تمام سپاه خود به بیتئیل رفتند و شروع به گریه کردند. آنها به حضور خداوند نشستند و تا غروب روزه گرفتند. و قربانی سوختنی و سلامتی به حضور خداوند تقدیم کردند
24The children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.
24
در آن روزها صندوق پیمان خداوند در بیتئیل بود
25Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.
25
و فینحاس پسر العازار نوهٔ هارون هم کاهن آنجا بود. آنها از خداوند سؤال کردند: «آیا به جنگ برادران بنیامینی خود بازگردیم؟»
خداوند جواب داد: «بلی، بروید، و من به شما کمک میکنم که فردا آنها را شکست بدهید.»
26Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.

سپاه اسرائیل در اطراف جبعه کمین کردند.
27The children of Israel asked of Yahweh (for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,
27
در روز سوم به مقابله لشکر بنیامین رفتند و مثل دفعات گذشته در جبعه صفآرایی کردند.
28and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” Yahweh said, “Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”

لشکر بنیامین هم برای حمله رفت. سپاه اسرائیل عقبنشینی کرد و سپاهیان بنیامین در تعقیب ایشان از شهر دور شدند. در شاهراهی که بین بیتئیل و جبعه بود، مانند دفعات پیش شروع به کشتن آنها کردند. در نتیجه در حدود سی نفر از سپاهیان اسرائیلی به قتل رسیدند.
29Israel set ambushes all around Gibeah.
29
مردم بنیامین گفتند: «باز آنها را شکست دادیم.»
امّا سپاه اسرائیل قبلاً نقشه کشیده بودند که از سپاه بنیامین فرار کنند تا آنها بیشتر از شهر دور شوند.
30The children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.

در عین حال لشکر اصلی اسرائیل هم، به بعل تامار رسیدند و حمله را شروع کردند.
31The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel, and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.

و ده هزار سپاهی که در غرب جبعه کمین کرده بودند، از کمینگاه خارج شدند و جنگ سختی شروع شد. سپاهیان بنیامین خبر نداشتند که بلای ناگهانی بر سرشان خواهد آمد.
32The children of Benjamin said, “They are struck down before us, as at the first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let us flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.”

خداوند به اسرائیل کمک کرد که بنیامین را شکست بدهند و بیست و پنج هزار و صد نفرشان را که همه مردان شمشیرزن بودند، در همان روز به قتل برسانند.
33All the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar: and the ambushers of Israel broke forth out of their place, even out of Maareh Geba.

سرانجام مردم بنیامین پی بردند که شکست خوردهاند.
پس سپاه اسرائیل عقبنشینی کرد تا به سپاهیان خود که در نزدیک جبعه کمین کرده بودند، فرصت بدهند که حمله را شروع کنند.
34There came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was severe; but they didn’t know that evil was close on them.
34
پس آنها از کمینگاه خود بیرون آمده، با یک حمله ناگهانی به داخل شهر رفته، همهٔ ساکنان آن را کشتند و شهر را آتش زدند.
35Yahweh struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men: all these drew the sword.

وقتیکه دود شهر به آسمان بلند شد، سپاهیان اسرائیل که در بیرون شهر بودند برگشتند و بر لشکر بنیامین حمله کردند. قبلاً قرار گذاشته بودند که بلند شدن دود از شهر، اشاره حمله به شهر است.
36So the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck; for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.

چون سپاهیان بنیامین به پشت سر نگاه کردند و دود غلیظ را دیدند که به آسمان بلند میشود و سپاه اسرائیل بر آنها حملهور شدهاند، دانستند که بلای بزرگی بر سرشان آمده است.
37The ambushers hurried, and rushed on Gibeah; and the ambushers drew themselves along, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.
37
پس از مقابل سپاه اسرائیل فرار کرده، به بیابان گریختند. امّا سپاهیان اسرائیل آنها را تعقیب کردند. آنهایی که در داخل شهر بودند، بیرون آمدند و از پشت سر همه را کشتند.
38Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.

باقیماندهٔ سپاه بنیامین را محاصره و تعقیب نموده از منوحه تا نزدیک جبعه در شرق آنها را پایمال کردند.
39The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, “Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.”

و هجده هزار سپاهی بنیامین، که همه مردان جنگی و دلاور بودند به قتل رسیدند.
40But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to the sky.
40
آنهایی که زنده ماندند، به بیابان به طرف صخرهٔ رِمون گریختند. امّا پنج هزار نفرشان در راه فرار و دو هزار نفر در جدعوم، که همگی مردان جنگی بودند، کشته شدند.
41The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that evil had come on them.
41
در همان روز تعداد سپاهیان بنیامین، که همگی مردان جنگی بودند و به دست سپاه اسرائیل کشته شدند، بیست و پنج هزار نفر بود.
42Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in its midst.

امّا تنها ششصد نفر توانستند، به بیابان فرار کرده، خود را به صخرهٔ رِمون برسانند. آنها مدّت چهار ماه در آنجا ماندند.
بعد سپاه اسرائیل برگشته، تمام مردم بنیامین و اطفال و حیوانات طایفهٔ بنیامین را کشتند و همهٔ شهرهای آنها را به آتش کشیدند.
43They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and trod them down at their resting place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrise.
43
بعد سپاه اسرائیل برگشته، تمام مردم بنیامین و اطفال و حیوانات طایفهٔ بنیامین را کشتند و همهٔ شهرهای آنها را به آتش کشیدند.
44There fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor.
45They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck of them two thousand men.
46So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword; all these were men of valor.
47But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.
48The men of Israel turned again on the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the livestock, and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.
