¹How the gold has become dim! The most pure gold has changed! The stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

¹ طلاهای ما جلای خود را از دست داده و بی‌ارزش شده‌اند و سنگ‌های مقدّس معبد بزرگ در کوچه‌ها افتاده‌اند.

²The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, How are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!

² جوانان صهیون که زمانی همچون زر ناب با ارزش بودند، اکنون مانند ظروف گِلی ساختهٔ دست کوزه‌گر، بی‌ارزش شده‌اند.

³Even the jackals draw out the breast, they nurse their young ones: The daughter of my people has become cruel, like the ostriches in the wilderness.

³ حتّی شغالان به توله‌های خود شیر می‌دهند، ولی زنان قوم من مثل شترمرغ شده‌اند و به کودکان خود رحم نمی‌کنند.

⁴The tongue of the nursing child clings to the roof of his mouth for thirst: The young children ask bread, and no man breaks it to them.

⁴ زبان اطفال شیرخوار از تشنگی به کامشان چسبیده است. بچّه‌ها نان می‌‌خواهند، امّا کسی به آنها نان نمی‌دهد.

⁵Those who fed delicately are desolate in the streets: Those who were brought up in scarlet embrace dunghills.

⁵ آنهایی که زمانی غذاهای لذیذ می‌خورند، اینک از گرسنگی در کوچه‌ها جان می‌‌دهند. کسانی‌که در ناز و نعمت زندگی می‌کردند، اکنون در بین زباله‌ها به دنبال غذا می‌گردند.

⁶For the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom, That was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands were laid on her.

⁶ جزای قوم من سنگین‌تر از جزای مردم سدوم بوده است، زیرا اهالی سدوم در یک لحظه نابود شد و هیچ دستی به آنها کمک نکرد.

⁷Her nobles were purer than snow, they were whiter than milk; They were more ruddy in body than rubies, their polishing was as of sapphire.

⁷ شاهزادگان ما پاکتر از برف و سفیدتر از شیر بودند. بدنشان از سرخی همچون لعل و در درخشندگی مانند یاقوت بود.

⁸Their appearance is blacker than a coal; they are not known in the streets: Their skin clings to their bones; it is withered, it has become like a stick.

⁸ امّا اکنون چهره‌ای سیاهتر از زغال دارند و در کوچه‌ها شناخته نمی‌شوند. پوستشان به استخوانشان چسبیده و مثل چوب خشک شده‌اند.

⁹Those who are killed with the sword are better than those who are killed with hunger; For these pine away, stricken through, for want of the fruits of the field.

⁹ آنهایی که در جنگ کشته شدند، خوشبخت‌تر بودند از کسانی‌که بعداً به تدریج از گرسنگی مردند و غذایی برای زنده ماندن نداشتند.

¹⁰The hands of the pitiful women have boiled their own children; They were their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

¹⁰ مصیبتی که بر سر قوم من آمد، چنان وحشتناک بود که مادران دلسوز، از فرط گرسنگی کودکان خود را می‌پختند و می‌خوردند.

¹¹Yahweh has accomplished his wrath, he has poured out his fierce anger; He has kindled a fire in Zion, which has devoured its foundations.

¹¹ خداوند خشم و غضب خود را با شدّت تمام بر صهیون فرو ریخت و چنان آتشی برافروخت که اساس آن را خاکستر کرد.

¹²The kings of the earth didn’t believe, neither all the inhabitants of the world, That the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.

¹² پادشاهان و مردم روی زمین، هیچ‌کدام باور نمی‌کرد که دشمن بتواند به دروازه‌های اورشلیم داخل شود.

¹³It is because of the sins of her prophets, and the iniquities of her priests, That have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.

¹³ ولی این کار شد، زیرا انبیا گناه کردند و کاهنان خون مردم نیک و بی‌گناه را در شهر ریختند.

¹⁴They wander as blind men in the streets, they are polluted with blood, So that men can’t touch their garments.

¹⁴ رهبرانش مانند اشخاص کور راه می‌روند و چون آلوده به خون مردم بی‌گناه هستند، کسی به آنها نزدیک نمی‌شود.

¹⁵Depart! they cried to them, Unclean! depart, depart, don’t touch! When they fled away and wandered, men said among the nations, They shall not live here any more.

¹⁵ مردم فریاد می‌زنند: «ای اشخاص ناپاک، دور شوید! به ما دست نزنید!» بنابراین آنها آواره و سرگردان از کشوری به کشور دیگر می‌روند، امّا مردم به آنها می‌گویند که جایی برایشان ندارند.

¹⁶The anger of Yahweh has scattered them; he will no more regard them: They didn’t respect the persons of the priests, they didn’t favor the elders.

¹⁶ خود خداوند آنها را پراکنده ساخته و دیگر به آنها توجّه نمی‌کند. او به کاهنان و بزرگان هم اعتنا نمی‌کند.

¹⁷Our eyes still fail, looking in vain for our help: In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.

¹⁷ از بس برای کمک انتظار کشیدیم، چشمان ما تار شدند. ولی انتظار ما بیهوده بود، زیرا قومی به یاری ما نیامد.

¹⁸They hunt our steps, so that we can’t go in our streets: Our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end has come.

¹⁸ دشمنان در تعقیب ما بودند و ما نمی‌توانستیم حتّی در کوچه‌ها راه برویم. عمر ما به آخر رسیده و مرگ ما نزدیک بود.

¹⁹Our pursuers were swifter than the eagles of the sky: They chased us on the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

¹⁹ تعقیب کنندگان ما تیزتر از عقاب بودند. به کوهها فرار کردیم، ولی آنها از تعقیب ما دست نکشیدند و حتّی در بیابان در کمین ما نشسته بودند.

²⁰The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of Yahweh, was taken in their pits; Of whom we said, Under his shadow we shall live among the nations.

²⁰ پادشاهِ ما را که برگزیدهٔ خداوند و سرچشمهٔ زندگی و حافظ جان ما بود، دستگیر کردند.

²¹Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom, that dwell in the land of Uz: The cup shall pass through to you also; you shall be drunken, and shall make yourself naked.

²¹ ای مردم اَدوم که در سرزمین عوص ساکن هستید، اکنون تا می‌توانید شادی کنید، زیرا این مصیبت بر سر شما هم خواهد آمد و شما هم از جام غضب خدا خواهید نوشید. ای صهیون، تو سزای گناهت را دیدی. خداوند زیادتر از این تو را در تبعید نگاه نمی‌دارد. امّا تو ای اَدوم، خداوند گناهانت را آشکار خواهد ساخت و تو را به سزای کارهایت خواهد رسانید.

²²The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, daughter of Zion; he will no more carry you away into captivity: He will visit your iniquity, daughter of Edom; he will uncover your sins.

²² ای صهیون، تو سزای گناهت را دیدی. خداوند زیادتر از این تو را در تبعید نگاه نمی‌دارد. امّا تو ای اَدوم، خداوند گناهانت را آشکار خواهد ساخت و تو را به سزای کارهایت خواهد رسانید.
