¹Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered strange fire before Yahweh, which he had not commanded them.

¹ ناداب و ابیهو، پسران هارون، هر کدام منقل خویش را برداشته و زغالهای افروخته در آن گذاشتند و کُندُر بر آن دود کرده و به خداوند تقدیم کردند. امّا این آتش مقدّس نبود زیرا که خداوند به آنها امر نکرده بود.

²And fire came forth from before Yahweh, and devoured them, and they died before Yahweh.

² ناگهان آتشی از حضور خداوند پیدا شد و آنها را سوزاند و هر دو حضور خداوند مُردند.

³Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what Yahweh spoke of, saying, ‘I will show myself holy to those who come near me, and before all the people I will be glorified.’” Aaron held his peace.

³ آنگاه موسی به هارون گفت: «خداوند چنین فرمود: هرکسی خدمت مرا می‌کند، باید به قدّوسیّت من احترام بگذارد تا در حضور قوم خود جلال یابم.» امّا هارون خاموش ماند.

⁴Moses called Mishael and Elzaphan, the sons of Uzziel the uncle of Aaron, and said to them, “Draw near, carry your brothers from before the sanctuary out of the camp.”

⁴ بعد موسی میشائیل و الصافان، پسران عُزیئیل، عموی هارون را فراخوانده به آنها گفت: «بیایید و جنازه‌های پسران عمویتان را از این مکان مقدّس به خارج اردوگاه ببرید.»

⁵So they drew near, and carried them in their coats out of the camp, as Moses had said.

⁵ پس آنها آمدند و از لباس جنازه‌ها گرفته، آنها را طبق دستور موسی از اردوگاه بیرون بردند.

⁶Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons, “Don’t let the hair of your heads go loose, neither tear your clothes; that you don’t die, and that he not be angry with all the congregation: but let your brothers, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which Yahweh has kindled.

⁶ بعد موسی به هارون و پسرانش، العازار و ایتامار فرمود: «موهایتان را شانه کنید و جامهٔ خود را پاره نکنید، مبادا بمیرید و غضب خدا بر سر تمام قوم بیاید. امّا قوم اسرائیل اجازه دارند که به‌خاطر این دو نفر، که با آتشی که خداوند فرستاد مردند، عزاداری کنند.

⁷You shall not go out from the door of the Tent of Meeting, lest you die; for the anointing oil of Yahweh is on you.” They did according to the word of Moses.

⁷ شما نباید از دروازهٔ خیمهٔ مقدّس بیرون بروید وگرنه می‌میرید، زیرا روغن مسح خداوند بر سر شماست.» پس آنها طبق دستور موسی رفتار کردند.

⁸Yahweh spoke to Aaron, saying,

⁸ خداوند به هارون فرمود:

⁹“Drink no wine nor strong drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the Tent of Meeting, that you don’t die: it shall be a statute forever throughout your generations:

⁹ «هرگز بعد از خوردن مشروب وارد خیمهٔ مقدّس نشوید؛ زیرا خواهید مرد و این قانون دایمی برای تو و پسرانت و نسلهای آینده است.

¹⁰and that you are to make a distinction between the holy and the common, and between the unclean and the clean;

¹⁰ شما باید فرق بین مقدّس و غیر مقدّس و پاک و ناپاک را بدانید،

¹¹and that you are to teach the children of Israel all the statutes which Yahweh has spoken to them by Moses.”

¹¹ و همهٔ احکامی را که من به وسیلهٔ موسی به تو دادم، باید به تمام قوم اسرائیل تعلیم بدهی.»

¹²Moses spoke to Aaron, and to Eleazar and to Ithamar, his sons who were left, “Take the meal offering that remains of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, and eat it without yeast beside the altar; for it is most holy;

¹² بعد موسی به هارون و پسرانش، العازار و ایتامار گفت: «از هدیهٔ آردی که بر آتش تقدیم شده بود، نان بدون خمیرمایه بپزید و در کنار قربانگاه بخورید، زیرا این هدیه بسیار مقدّس است.

¹³and you shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your portion, and your sons’ portion, of the offerings of Yahweh made by fire: for so I am commanded.

¹³ شما باید آن را در مکانی مقدّس بخورید، این هدایا سهم تو و پسرانت از قربانی‌ای که بر آتش به خداوند تقدیم شده، هستند.

¹⁴The waved breast and the heaved thigh you shall eat in a clean place, you, and your sons, and your daughters with you: for they are given as your portion, and your sons’ portion, out of the sacrifices of the peace offerings of the children of Israel.

¹⁴ امّا تو و خاندانت اجازه دارید که سینه و ران را که به عنوان هدیهٔ مخصوص برای خداوند تقدیم می‌شود بخورید و باید در یک‌‌جای پاک خورده شود، زیرا این هدیه به عنوان سهم تو و پسرانت، از قربانی سلامتی قوم اسرائیل داده شده است.

¹⁵The heaved thigh and the waved breast they shall bring with the offerings made by fire of the fat, to wave it for a wave offering before Yahweh: and it shall be yours, and your sons’ with you, as a portion forever; as Yahweh has commanded.”

¹⁵ مردم باید ران و سینهٔ قربانی را هنگام تقدیم چربی بر آتش، بیاورند و به عنوان هدیهٔ مخصوص به حضور خداوند تکان بدهند. طبق فرمان خداوند آن ران و سینه، همیشه سهم تو و فرزندانت می‌باشند.»

¹⁶Moses diligently inquired about the goat of the sin offering, and, behold, it was burned: and he was angry with Eleazar and with Ithamar, the sons of Aaron who were left, saying,

¹⁶ وقتی موسی سراغ بُز قربانی گناه را گرفت، آگاه شد که سوزانده شده است. در نتیجه از العازار و ایتامار خشمگین شد و پرسید:

¹⁷“Why haven’t you eaten the sin offering in the place of the sanctuary, since it is most holy, and he has given it you to bear the iniquity of the congregation, to make atonement for them before Yahweh?

¹⁷ «چرا شما قربانی گناه را در مکانی پاک نخوردید؟ زیرا این قربانی مقدّسترین قربانی‌هاست که به شما داده شده است تا کفّارهٔ گناهان قوم اسرائیل باشد.

¹⁸Behold, its blood was not brought into the inner part of the sanctuary: you certainly should have eaten it in the sanctuary, as I commanded.”

¹⁸ چون خون آن به داخل جایگاه مقدّس برده نشده بود، طبق دستور من باید قربانی را در همان‌جا می‌خوردید.»

¹⁹Aaron spoke to Moses, “Behold, this day they have offered their sin offering and their burnt offering before Yahweh; and such things as these have happened to me: and if I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been pleasing in the sight of Yahweh?”

¹⁹ هارون به موسی گفت: «با وجودی که آنها قربانی گناه و قربانی سوختنی را تقدیم کردند این واقعهٔ هولناک برای من رخ داد، پس اگر گوشت قربانی را می‌خوردم، آیا خداوند از کار من راضی می‌شد؟» وقتی موسی دلیل او را شنید، قانع شد.
