¹Yahweh said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them, ‘A priest shall not defile himself for the dead among his people;

¹ خداوند به موسی فرمود: «به هارون و پسرانش بگو که هرگز به جنازهٔ کسی دست نزنند، زیرا که ناپاک می‌شوند،

²except for his relatives that are near to him: for his mother, for his father, for his son, for his daughter, for his brother,

² مگر اینکه جنازهٔ یکی از خویشاوندان نزدیک، یعنی مادر، پدر، پسر، دختر، برادر

³and for his virgin sister who is near to him, who has had no husband; for her he may defile himself.

³ یا خواهرش که شوهر نکرده و در خانهٔ او می‌زیسته است، باشد.

⁴He shall not defile himself, being a chief man among his people, to profane himself.

⁴ چون کاهن رهبر قوم خود است، او نباید خود را در مرگ افراد خانوادهٔ زنش ناپاک کند.

⁵“‘They shall not shave their heads, neither shall they shave off the corners of their beards, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.

⁵ «هیچ کاهنی نباید به نشانهٔ سوگواری سر خود را بتراشد یا ریش خود را کوتاه کند و یا بدن خود را زخمی‌ کند.

⁶They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God; for they offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, the bread of their God; therefore they shall be holy.

⁶ او باید مقدّس باشد و مرا بی‌حرمت نکند. او برای من هدایای خوردنی بر آتش تقدیم می‌کند، پس باید مقدّس باشد.

⁷“‘They shall not marry a woman who is a prostitute, or profane; neither shall they marry a woman divorced from her husband: for he is holy to his God.

⁷ او نباید با زن فاحشه و زنی که باکره نیست و یا زن بیوه عروسی کند، زیرا او پیش خدای خود مقدّس است.

⁸You shall sanctify him therefore; for he offers the bread of your God: he shall be holy to you: for I Yahweh, who sanctify you, am holy.

⁸ کاهنان را باید مقدّس بشمارید، چرا که آنها هدایای خوردنی برای من تقدیم می‌کنند. من خداوند و قدّوس هستم و شما را تقدیس می‌کنم

⁹“‘The daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the prostitute, she profanes her father: she shall be burned with fire.

⁹ اگر دختر کاهن فاحشه شود، پدر خود را بی‌حرمت می‌سازد و باید او را زنده در آتش بسوزانند.

¹⁰“‘He who is the high priest among his brothers, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and that is consecrated to put on the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, nor tear his clothes;

¹⁰ «کاهن اعظم که با روغن مخصوص، مسح و تقدیس شده است و لباس کهانت می‌پوشد، نباید هنگام سوگواری موهای خود را باز و پریشان بگذارد یا جامهٔ خود را بدرد.

¹¹neither shall he go in to any dead body, nor defile himself for his father, or for his mother;

¹¹ چون او برای من مسح و تقدیس شده است، نباید با خارج شدن از معبد و رفتن به خانه‌ای که جنازه در آن است، حتّی اگر جنازهٔ پدر و مادرش باشد، معبد مرا بی‌حرمت سازد.

¹²neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the crown of the anointing oil of his God is upon him. I am Yahweh.

¹² با دختری که باکره است باید ازدواج کند و با زن بیوه یا فاحشه عروسی نکند، بلکه زن او دختر باکره‌ای از خاندان خودش باشد.

¹³“‘He shall take a wife in her virginity.

¹³ در غیر این صورت فرزندان او در بین مردم بی‌حرمت خواهند بود.»

¹⁴A widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute, these he shall not marry: but a virgin of his own people shall he take as a wife.

¹⁴ خداوند به موسی فرمود:

¹⁵He shall not profane his seed among his people: for I am Yahweh who sanctifies him.’”

¹⁵ «به هارون بگو که اگر در نسلهای آینده یکی از فرزندان او عیب جسمانی داشته باشد، نباید هدیهٔ خوردنی به حضور من تقدیم کند.

¹⁶Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹⁶ و کسی‌که معیوب و کور یا شل باشد، یا نقصی در صورتش داشته و یا دست یا پایش شکسته باشد، نباید هدیه‌ای را به حضور من تقدیم کند.

¹⁷“Say to Aaron, ‘None of your seed throughout their generations who has a blemish, may approach to offer the bread of his God.

¹⁷ شخصی که گوژپشت، کوتاه قد، مبتلا به بیماری چشم یا پوست و یا خواجه باشد،

¹⁸For whatever man he is that has a blemish, he shall not draw near: a blind man, or a lame, or he who has a flat nose, or any deformity,

¹⁸ به‌خاطر عیب جسمانی‌اش حق ندارد که هدایای خوردنی به حضور من بر آتش تقدیم کند،

¹⁹or a man who has an injured foot, or an injured hand,

¹⁹ او می‌تواند از هدایای مقدّس و هم از مقدّسترین هدایا که به حضور من تقدیم می‌شوند، بخورد،

²⁰or hunchbacked, or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye, or an itching disease, or scabs, or who has damaged testicles;

²⁰ امّا او نباید به نزدیک پردهٔ جایگاه مقدّس و یا قربانگاه برود، چون نقص جسمانی دارد و با این کار خود، معبد مرا بی‌حرمت می‌سازد، زیرا من خداوند هستم و آنها را تقدیس کرده‌ام.» پس موسی این دستورات را به هارون، پسران او و قوم اسرائیل داد.

²¹no man of the seed of Aaron the priest who has a blemish, shall come near to offer the offerings of Yahweh made by fire. Since he has a blemish, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.

²¹ پس موسی این دستورات را به هارون، پسران او و قوم اسرائیل داد.

²²He shall eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy, and of the holy.

²³He shall not come near to the veil, nor come near to the altar, because he has a blemish; that he may not profane my sanctuaries, for I am Yahweh who sanctifies them.’”

²⁴So Moses spoke to Aaron, and to his sons, and to all the children of Israel.
