¹It happened, when he went into the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees on a Sabbath to eat bread, that they were watching him.

¹ در یک روز سبت عیسی برای صرف غذا به منزل یكی از بزرگان فرقهٔ فریسی رفت. آنان با دقّت مراقب او بودند.

²Behold, a certain man who had dropsy was in front of him.

² آنجا در برابر او مردی بود كه مبتلا به مرض تشنگی بود.

³Jesus, answering, spoke to the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

³ عیسی از معلّمان شریعت و فریسیان پرسید: «آیا شفای بیماران در روز سبت جایز است یا خیر؟»

⁴But they were silent. He took him, and healed him, and let him go.

⁴ آنها چیزی نگفتند. پس عیسی آن مرد را شفا داد و مرخّص فرمود.

⁵He answered them, “Which of you, if your son TR reads “donkey” instead of “son” or an ox fell into a well, wouldn’t immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?”

⁵ بعد رو به آنان كرد و فرمود: «اگر پسر یا گاو یكی از شما در چاه بیفتد آیا به‌خاطر اینکه روز سبت است در بیرون آوردنش دچار تردید خواهید شد؟»

⁶They couldn’t answer him regarding these things.

⁶ و آنها برای این سؤال جوابی نیافتند.

⁷He spoke a parable to those who were invited, when he noticed how they chose the best seats, and said to them,

⁷ وقتی عیسی دید كه مهمانان بالای مجلس را برای خود اختیار می‌کردند برای ایشان مَثَلی آورده گفت:

⁸ “When you are invited by anyone to a marriage feast, don’t sit in the best seat, since perhaps someone more honorable than you might be invited by him,

⁸ «وقتی كسی شما را به یک مجلس عروسی دعوت می‌کند، در بالای مجلس ننشینید. زیرا امكان دارد كه شخصی مهمتر از شما دعوت شده باشد

⁹ and he who invited both of you would come and tell you, ‘Make room for this person.’ Then you would begin, with shame, to take the lowest place.

⁹ و میزبان بیاید و به شما بگوید: 'جای خود را به این آقا بده.' در آن صورت باید با شرمساری در پایین مجلس بنشینی.

¹⁰ But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place, so that when he who invited you comes, he may tell you, ‘Friend, move up higher.’ Then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you.

¹⁰ خیر، وقتی دعوت از تو می‌شود برو و در پایین مجلس بنشین تا وقتی میزبان تو آمد، بگوید: 'دوست من، بفرما بالاتر.' پس تمام مهمانان احترامی را كه به تو می‌شود خواهند دید.

¹¹ For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.”

¹¹ چون هرکه بزرگی كند خوار خواهد شد و هرکه خود را فروتن سازد، سرافراز خواهد گردید.»

¹²He also said to the one who had invited him, “When you make a dinner or a supper, don’t call your friends, nor your brothers, nor your kinsmen, nor rich neighbors, or perhaps they might also return the favor, and pay you back.

¹² بعد به میزبان خود گفت: «وقتی ضیافت شام یا ناهاری ترتیب می‌دهی دوستان، برادران و سایر خویشان یا همسایگان ثروتمند خود را دعوت نكن مبادا آنان هم متقابلاً از تو دعوت كنند و به این ترتیب عوض خود را بگیری،

¹³ But when you make a feast, ask the poor, the maimed, the lame, or the blind;

¹³ بلكه وقتی ضیافتی می‌دهی بینوایان و مفلوجان و شلها و كورها را دعوت كن

¹⁴ and you will be blessed, because they don’t have the resources to repay you. For you will be repaid in the resurrection of the righteous.”

¹⁴ و خوشبخت خواهی بود چون آنان هیچ‌گونه وسیلهٔ عوض‌دادن ندارند و تو در آن روزی كه نیكان زنده می‌شوند، عوض خواهی گرفت.»

¹⁵When one of those who sat at the table with him heard these things, he said to him, “Blessed is he who will feast in the Kingdom of God!”

¹⁵ یكی از حاضران، بعد از شنیدن این سخنان به او عرض كرد: «خوشا به حال آن کسی‌که در پادشاهی خدا سر سفره بنشیند.»

¹⁶But he said to him, “A certain man made a great supper, and he invited many people.

¹⁶ امّا عیسی پاسخ داد: «مردی ضیافت شام بزرگی ترتیب داد و عدّهٔ زیادی را دعوت كرد.

¹⁷ He sent out his servant at supper time to tell those who were invited, ‘Come, for everything is ready now.’

¹⁷ در وقت شام، غلام خود را با پیغامی پیش مهمانان فرستاد كه حالا بیایید، همه‌چیز حاضر است.

¹⁸ They all as one began to make excuses. “The first said to him, ‘I have bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please have me excused.’

¹⁸ امّا همه شروع به عذر آوردن كردند. اولی گفت: 'من قطعه زمینی خریده‌ام و باید بروم آن را ببینم. لطفاً عذر مرا بپذیر.'

¹⁹ “Another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I must go try them out. Please have me excused.’

¹⁹ دومی گفت: 'من پنج جفت گاو خریده‌ام و حالا می‌روم آنها را امتحان كنم. لطفاً مرا معذور بدار.'

²⁰ “Another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I can’t come.’

²⁰ نفر بعدی گفت: 'من تازه زن گرفته‌ام و به این سبب نمی‌توانم بیایم.'

²¹ “That servant came, and told his lord these things. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor, maimed, blind, and lame.’

²¹ وقتی آن غلام برگشت و موضوع را به اطّلاع ارباب خود رسانید، ارباب عصبانی شد و به او گفت: 'زود به کوچه‌ها و پس‌کوچه‌های شهر برو و بینوایان و مفلوجان و كورها و شلها را پیش من بیاور.'

²² “The servant said, ‘Lord, it is done as you commanded, and there is still room.’

²² بعداً غلام گفت: 'ارباب، امر تو اطاعت شد و هنوز هم، جا هست.'

²³ “The lord said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

²³ ارباب جواب داد: 'به شاهراهها و كوچه باغها برو و با اصرار همه را دعوت كن كه بیایند تا خانهٔ من پُر شود.

²⁴ For I tell you that none of those men who were invited will taste of my supper.’”

²⁴ بدانید كه هیچ‌یک از آن کسانی‌که دعوت كرده بودم مزهٔ این شام را نخواهد چشید.'»

²⁵Now great multitudes were going with him. He turned and said to them,

²⁵ در بین راه جمعیّت بزرگی همراه عیسی بود. او به آنان رو كرد و فرمود:

²⁶ “If anyone comes to me, and doesn’t disregard or, hate his own father, mother, wife, children, brothers, and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he can’t be my disciple.

²⁶ «اگر كسی پیش من بیاید واز پدر و مادر، زن و فرزند، برادران و خواهران و حتّی جان خود دست نشوید، نمی‌تواند شاگرد من باشد.

²⁷ Whoever doesn’t bear his own cross, and come after me, can’t be my disciple.

²⁷ کسی‌که صلیب خود را برندارد و با من نیاید، نمی‌تواند شاگرد من باشد.

²⁸ For which of you, desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?

²⁸ اگر كسی از شما به فكر ساختن یک بُرج باشد، آیا اول نمی‌نشیند و مخارج آن را برآورد نمی‌کند تا ببیند آیا توانایی تمام كردن آن را دارد یا نه؟

²⁹ Or perhaps, when he has laid a foundation, and is not able to finish, everyone who sees begins to mock him,

²⁹ در غیر این صورت اگر پایهٔ آن را بگذارد و بعد نتواند آن را تمام كند، همهٔ کسانی‌که آن را ببینند به او خواهند خندید

³⁰ saying, ‘This man began to build, and wasn’t able to finish.’

³⁰ و خواهند گفت: 'این مرد ساختمانی را شروع كرد ولی نتوانست آن را تمام كند.'

³¹ Or what king, as he goes to encounter another king in war, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand?

³¹ یا كدام پادشاهی است كه به جنگ پادشاه دیگری برود بدون آنكه اول بنشیند و مطالعه كند كه آیا با ده هزار سپاهی می‌تواند با یک لشکر بیست هزار نفری مقابله كند؟

³² Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sends an envoy, and asks for conditions of peace.

³² و اگر نتواند، او خیلی زودتر از اینكه دشمن سر برسد سفیری می‌فرستد و تقاضای صلح می‌کند.

³³ So therefore whoever of you who doesn’t renounce all that he has, he can’t be my disciple.

³³ همچنین اگر شما حاضر نیستید تمام هستی خود را از دست بدهید، نمی‌توانید شاگرد من باشید.

³⁴ Salt is good, but if the salt becomes flat and tasteless, with what do you season it?

³⁴ «نمک چیز خوبی است، امّا اگر خود نمک بی‌مزه شود به چه وسیله مزهٔ اصلی خود را باز یابد؟ دیگر نه برای زمین مصرفی دارد و نه می‌توان به صورت كود از آن استفاده كرد. آن را فقط باید دور ریخت. اگر گوش شنوا دارید بشنوید.»

³⁵ It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile. It is thrown out. He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

³⁵ دیگر نه برای زمین مصرفی دارد و نه می‌توان به صورت كود از آن استفاده كرد. آن را فقط باید دور ریخت. اگر گوش شنوا دارید بشنوید.»
